The mucolytic cough medicine Ambrobene belongs to a group of drugs that facilitate expectoration of phlegm (bronchial secretions) and clear the respiratory tract.
Indications Ambrobene for cough
Abrobene and its synonyms or generics - Abrol, Ambrogeksal, Ambrosan, Ambrolitin, Lazolvan, Lazoleks, Mucovent, Medox, Bronchopront, Brontex, Bronkhoval, Bronkhoksol, Flavamed (including effervescent tablets), etc. - are used to treat cough with sputum in respiratory and bronchopulmonary infections. That is, Ambrobene is prescribed for wet cough with thick sputum that is difficult to cough up.
Release form
This medicine is available in the following forms:
- Ambrobene cough syrup;
- Ambrobene cough tablets (30 mg);
- retard capsules (75 mg each);
- Ambrobene solution for cough (for oral administration and inhalation).
Pharmacodynamics
The active substance of Ambrobene and its listed synonyms (produced by different manufacturers under other names) – ambroxol hydrochloride – promotes increased secretion of bronchial surfactant and activation of ciliated cells of the bronchial mucosa (mucociliary clearance). [ 1 ]

Pharmacokinetics
Ambroxol hydrochloride is metabolized by the liver and excreted through the kidneys in the form of its breakdown products.
Dosing and administration
When using any form of the drug, it is necessary to drink a large amount of liquid to enhance the mucolytic effect.

- Application for children
This product in the form of a solution and syrup in the appropriate dosage can be used by children from the age of two; the drug in the form of tablets and injection solution - from the age of six, and in the form of capsules - 12 years.
Use Ambrobene for cough during pregnancy
During the first three months of pregnancy, the use of this drug is contraindicated. At later stages, Ambrobene for cough may be prescribed by the attending physician, assessing the ratio of its benefits to the mother with the potential risk to the fetus.
Contraindications
Ambrobene is contraindicated for use in case of hypersensitivity to the components included in its composition; in case of insufficient motor function of the bronchi and gastric ulcer and/or duodenal ulcer during an exacerbation.
Side effects Ambrobene for cough
Possible side effects include allergic reactions (with urticaria, itching and Quincke's edema), nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, taste disturbance, heartburn, abdominal pain.
Overdose
Overdose of ambroxol hydrochloride preparations, including Ambrobene, causes hypersalivation, nausea, vomiting, and arterial hypotension.
Interactions with other drugs
Mucolytics cannot be used simultaneously with antitussive drugs of central and peripheral action - Codeine, Codelac, Butamirate, Tusuprex, Libexin, etc.
It should be borne in mind that taking Ambrobene increases the concentration of simultaneously used antibacterial drugs such as Erythromycin, Amoxicillin, and Cefuroxime in bronchial secretions.
Storage conditions
The optimal temperature for storing the drug is +15-22°C.
Shelf life
The drug is suitable for use for five years from the date of manufacture indicated on the packaging.
