Medox is a drug from the mucolytics category.

Indications Medoxa

It is used to treat diseases affecting the respiratory system, against which cough is marked - to speed up the processes of expectoration. The medicine demonstrates effectiveness in diseases, during which appears laborious, having strong viscosity, sputum.

The drug is prescribed for pneumonia, bronchitis, diseases, accompanied by obstruction, asthma and bronchoectatic pathology.

Release form

Release of the medication is carried out in tablets with a volume of 30 mg, packed in an amount of 10 pieces inside the blister plates. One box contains 2 or 3 such plates.

Also produced in the form of a syrup, in bottles of 100 ml capacity (in 5 ml contains 15 mg of ambroxol). Inside the pack contains 1 bottle of syrup and 1 measuring spoon.

Pharmacodynamics

The active element of the drug is the substance ambroksol, which has a pronounced secretolitic and secretion-leading effect.

The medicine helps to excrete the secret accumulated inside the bronchi, increasing the rate of mucolytic activity of the ciliated epithelium. In addition, it regulates the production of sputum within the glandular cells.

Pharmacokinetics

Ambroxol is absorbed almost completely and at high speed inside the gastrointestinal tract after taking the tablet inside. The bioavailability of the substance is within 70-80%, and the protein synthesis within the plasma is 75-90%. The level of Cmax within the blood plasma is noted after 2 hours.

The medicine quickly passes into the tissues, especially inside the kidneys with the lungs. The half-life of ambroxol is within 10-12 hours. Excretion of the drug is carried out with feces and urine (mainly in the form of metabolic products that do not have toxicity). Approximately 90% of the portion of the medicine used is excreted by the kidneys.

Ambroxol passes through the placenta, and is also excreted in the mother's milk.

The values of drug clearance can decrease in people with severe forms of hepatic pathology (by 20-40%). The half-life of the substance is prolonged in people with kidney diseases in a severe degree.

Dosing and administration

Tablets are taken orally, it is recommended to do this after eating. For a child aged 6-12 years, a dosage of 0.5 tablets is prescribed with a 2-3-day intake per day; for a teenager over 12 years old - 1 tablet 3 times a day. For an adult human portion is 1-well pill 3 times a day or 2 tablets 2 times a day.

Before taking the syrup, you need to shake the bottle with the substance to dissolve the sediment from the honey that can be observed. Application of the syrup occurs in portions measured with a measuring spoon with divisions - 1.25 ml (¼), and 2.5 ml (½). The volume of the full measuring spoon is 5 ml of syrup.

Syrup is used in such portions:

  • Children younger than 2 years of age - 2.5 ml 2 times a day;
  • children 2-5 years - 2.5 ml 3 times a day;
  • children 5-12 years - 5 ml 2-3 times a day;
  • adolescents from 12 years and adults - 10 ml 3 times a day for 2-3 days, and starting from 3-4 days - in a dosage of 5 ml, 3 times a day.

The therapy should last within 5-10 days.

Use medicament in other dosage regimens is allowed only with the appointment of a doctor.

Use Medoxa during pregnancy

It is forbidden to use Medox on the 1st trimester, and from the 4th month of pregnancy, use the medicine with caution.

It is forbidden to prescribe drugs to women during lactation.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to use drugs in people with intolerance regarding its components.
