To neutralize and remove exogenous and endogenous toxins and metabolites, special absorbing substances are used - intestinal adsorbents (enterosorbents), including Polysorb purification, ATX code - A07BC.

Indications Polysorb

Polysorb (other trade names - Atoxil, Silix) is intended for  enterosorption, that is, for cleansing the body of toxins (from outside or internal):

  • with acute intestinal infections of various etiologies, including salmonellosis, dysentery (shigellosis), rotavirus, etc .;
  • with food poisoning, as well as in cases of an allergic reaction to food or medicinal products;
  • in the conduct of  detoxification therapy  in cases of poisoning with potent chemicals, alkaloids, drugs. True, alcoholism does not cure this drug, but with a hangover will help cope with poisoning with acetaldehyde (a metabolite of ethyl alcohol).

Polysorb can also be administered to patients with intestinal microflora disorder (dysbiosis); with viral hepatitis (to remove excess bilirubin); with severe renal failure accompanied by retention hyperaemia.

Since the skin condition directly depends on the work of the intestines, dermatologists recommend taking adsorbents, then skin cleansing  from acne  will be much more effective.

Complex  treatment of psoriasis also includes enterosorption.

Cleansing the body Polisorb for weight loss in the instructions of this tool (in the list of indications for use) does not appear, however, many nutritionists are advised in switching to the optimal calorie diet to conduct a course of bowel cleansing.

Release form

Polysorb is produced in the form of a powder (packaged in vials or packets) to prepare a suspension.

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacodynamics Polysorb is provided by the high biosorption activity of its active substance-pyrogenic dioxide (silica) (also known as additive E551), which is an amorphous fine powder, which does not form salts and is insoluble in water.

But when mixed with it, the silica powder forms a slurry (colloidal solution), the discrete particles of which have a very large specific surface and the capacity for physical adsorption. In the gastrointestinal tract, the outer surfaces of each powder particle - due to the action of hydroxyl and silanol groups of silicon atoms and electrostatic intermolecular interaction - attract and retain molecules of toxic substances.

Thus, this agent helps to purify the intestinal juice from the products of the vital activity of microorganisms and microbial decay of proteins, toxic metabolites of endogenous origin (bile acids and pigments, micelle complexes, medium molecular peptides, etc.), and the binding of cholesterol (ingested with food) and other nonpolar lipids and lipoproteins - with the removal of them naturally in the emptying of the intestine.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking Polysorb, the active substance does not dissolve in contact with biological fluids (contained in the gastrointestinal tract), does not undergo cleavage, and is not absorbed into the systemic bloodstream.

Silicon dioxide retains its physico-chemical stability during its entire stay in the intestine and is excreted from the body with feces.

Dosing and administration

How to drink and take Polysorb for the cleansing of the body, before or after meals and in what quantities, is indicated in the official instructions.

The average daily dose of Polysorb for adults is 100-200 mg / kg body weight (6-12 g), divided into three to four doses. The maximum daily vine is 330 mg / kg (20 g).

The daily dose for children depends on the body weight (100 mg / kg).

To prepare the suspension, the powder is mixed with water (one quarter or half a glass is enough). It is taken one hour before meals, but with food allergies - just before or during meals.

How many days to drink Polysorb for cleansing the body in various cases?

In acute poisoning - three to five days; with viral hepatitis - up to ten days; at allergic and atopic diseases - up to two weeks; with chronic renal failure - within a month.

However, in the instructions for the drug-synonym Atoxil (containing the same silicon dioxide) pregnancy and lactation are contraindications - as there is no information regarding the safety of this drug for pregnant women.

Contraindications

Enterosorbents with silica are contraindicated in the acute form of gastric ulcer and erosion of the walls of any part of the small intestine, with a decrease in gastric motility and intestinal peristalsis, with inflammation of the large intestine and its spastic obstruction.

Also the use for children of the first year of life is contraindicated.
