There is no clear answer to the question: what ointment helps with acne? - Acne, the cause of which has been precisely established, can be treated effectively and quickly. However, this applies to any health problems. You should start with a consultation with a dermatologist, he will send you to take the necessary tests to determine the type of pathogenic microorganism that caused the rash, and after the examination, you may need the help of other specialists (gastroenterologist, endocrinologist). Do not forget that in any case, healthy eating and careful skin care play an important role in getting rid of skin problems.
Release form
The most common form of ointments is aluminum or plastic tubes of different volumes. They are usually designed for a course of treatment. This is a fairly hygienic and convenient packaging unit.
Many drugs that require a long course of treatment are produced in glass or plastic jars. In terms of hygiene, the packaging is not very good, there is a high risk of contamination getting inside.
The most hygienic form is considered to be the aerosol form of release, which excludes contact with the lesion and hands. However, the consistency of ointments very rarely allows its use.
Natural based ointments
Dermatologists recommend starting treatment with simple medications, for example, try such an affordable, safe and effective remedy as Zinc ointment. This external remedy, which actively counteracts inflammation, has disinfecting properties. It dries the skin, absorbing and reducing exudate secretions, forms a thin protective layer on the skin, preventing negative external influences. To eliminate acne, the ointment is used four to six times a day. However, if a secondary infection and suppuration occur, it is inappropriate to use zinc ointment. In this case, the protective film creates conditions for the reproduction of anaerobic bacteria.
To avoid overdrying the skin, you can mix a little ointment with two or three drops of baby oil (Bübchen, Alenka) before use and apply the mixture to the skin.
Salicylic ointment is a time-tested remedy for acne, an inexpensive ointment for pimples that suppresses the inflammatory process and kills the microorganisms that caused it. Exfoliates dead skin particles, stimulating its renewal. On small pimples, simply apply a thin layer, on large ones - put a piece of gauze with ointment and fix with a band-aid, dressings are recommended every two to three days. It has a strong drying effect, which should be taken into account by people with dry and sensitive skin.
Salicylic-zinc ointment (Lassar paste) is a complex ointment that combines salicylic acid with zinc oxide based on petroleum jelly and starch. These components, which have whitening, exfoliating and disinfecting properties, complement each other's action. Salicylic acid has a cleansing effect, dissolving "sebum" and freeing pores, restoring skin respiration, thereby helping to relieve pain and inflammation. A good ointment for red pimples, it also draws out internal ones. Lassar paste is usually spread in a thin layer over the entire face, avoiding the eye and lip area, once or twice a day. The course of treatment is until the effect is achieved. Do not apply to wet or overdried areas of the skin.
Ichthyol ointment copes well with purulent pimples, including secondary infected ones, drawing out the contents and eliminating the infection. In addition, this ointment dissolves comedones, effectively eliminates acne and white plugs. This is a good ointment for internal pimples. Ichthyol penetrates deep into the epidermal layers, stimulates microcirculation, oxygenation and detoxification of the skin, relieves inflammation, pain and swelling. It is applied pointwise to pimples, with the exception of the nose and chin, which are smeared completely. Given the color and smell of the ointment, it is better to perform the procedure at night, wash off in the morning and treat the removal sites with an antiseptic. The composition includes petroleum jelly, which should be taken into account by those with oily skin.
Vishnevsky ointment is a competitor of ichthyol, it accelerates the process of "maturation" and draws out suppuration, has a disinfectant and anti-inflammatory effect. They are related not only by the dark color and not very pleasant smell, but also by the effectiveness associated with safety. Small pimples can be spot-applied with a cotton swab, on large ones - apply a piece of gauze soaked in ointment. Fix, leave for several hours, really - overnight. Repeat once every three days until the skin is clear. Vishnevsky ointment, according to reviews of people who used it for acne, has a preventive effect against post-acne and uneven skin.
The ointments listed above have no contraindications, except for individual allergic reactions, and are suitable for use by pregnant and lactating women.
Sulfur ointment is effective for oily seborrhea, sycosis, acne caused by fungi and demodex. It is characterized by a very sensitive smell of sulfur, so it should be used when there are no planned meetings and you can be alone.
The application depends on the nature of the lesion. The standard treatment regimen for demodicosis or fungus involves using the ointment twice or three times a day, without washing it off for five days and without changing clothes that come into contact with the treated areas. Bandages with this ointment are not applied, problem areas are simply smeared.
For other causes of rashes, apply the ointment twice a day and leave it on for about four hours, then wash it off. Sulfur ointment is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women and children aged 0-3 years.
Yam ointment is a combination product containing salicylic acid, sulfur, zinc oxide, tar, mixed on a lanolin base. It has insecticidal, fungicidal and bactericidal properties, softens the skin and eliminates inflammation symptoms. It is often prescribed for acne caused by demodectic mites. The smell of the ointment corresponds to its composition, but its effectiveness is at its best. Before use, the ointment is thoroughly mixed and spread on the damaged areas in a thin layer, initially for five minutes. Then remove with an oiled swab (oil - any vegetable or baby), then wash off with water. The next two days, the exposure time is extended by five minutes, reaching the maximum (15 minutes) - repeat the procedure daily from one to two months. During the treatment, it is good to wash with tar soap.
Having achieved a satisfactory effect, make a scraping for demodex. Contraindicated in hyperhair. May cause allergies.
Retinoic ointment, the main active ingredients of which are retinol (vitamin A) and bioactive isotretinoin, normalize cell division and renewal. The ointment helps to get rid of oily seborrhea, comedones and acne. It slows down the growth of the epithelium lining the sebaceous glands, regulates its composition and helps to normalize the secretion of sebum. The skin dries out, and the inflammatory process subsides, its protective functions are activated. The skin is smeared with ointment twice a day in a thin layer.
The ointment may cause side effects, including excess vitamin A and its consequences; it is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, people with liver dysfunction and dyslipidemia.
Ointments with antibiotics
They have a persistent anti-inflammatory effect, destroying microorganisms that cause inflammation and secondary infection. Antibiotic ointments are used until the last pimple disappears, otherwise you can provoke a relapse of inflammation, and the bacteria will already be more resistant to the drug. Unless otherwise indicated, antibiotic-based ointments are not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, people with fungal-infected skin, or those with allergies to antibiotics of this series.
Antibiotic ointments are used as prescribed by a doctor, after a bacterial scraping has been taken to determine the infectious agent and its sensitivity to specific drugs. These ointments are used according to the regimen prescribed by a dermatologist and for the period specified by him.
Syntomycin ointment is a very effective and affordable remedy, which also does not have a strong and unpleasant smell and color, and is invisible on the skin. However, the active component of the ointment is an antibiotic. Along with the effectiveness inherent in this group of drugs, in relation to inflammation, pathogens, there is a greater likelihood of allergic reactions. Apply to damaged, cleaned areas twice a day. If the pimples are small, you can leave it uncovered and even apply makeup after absorption. Usually, pimples disappear within three to five days.
In addition to general contraindications, it is not prescribed to newborns or people with hematopoiesis disorders, since long-term and uncontrolled treatment with this ointment can provoke hematopoiesis (hematopoiesis disorder).
Tetracycline ointment is a broad-spectrum pathogen antagonist (staphylococci, streptococci, rickettsia, aerobic bacteria), inhibits cell renewal of pathogenic bacteria. Tetracycline, a bacteriostatic, interrupts the biosynthesis of the protein component of the bacterial cell and the process of their reproduction stops. The ointment is applied to the infected areas and adjacent healthy skin once or twice a day, a bandage soaked in the ointment can be applied, which is changed once or twice a day. The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the lesion and is calculated for several days or weeks. It is not used to treat children aged 0-10 years.
Doxycycline ointment. The active ingredient is a tetracycline antibiotic. The properties are similar to the previous ointment. Refers to fairly strong agents, not prescribed to children. May cause increased photosensitivity. Treatment of acne with tetracycline ointments gives a lasting effect. These ointments also cope well with internal pimples.
Erythromycin ointment is active against inflammatory purulent infection of the skin by pathogenic microorganisms, as well as the proliferation of propionobacteria caused by them, which leads to the appearance of acne.
Damaged areas of the skin are lubricated with a thin layer of ointment two to three times a day. Treatment is individual and must comply with the doctor's scheme. Correct use gives noticeable results after 7-10 days from the start of use. Not prescribed to children 0-9 years old.
Levomekol ointment is a complex product that combines two active components: the antibiotic chloramphenicol and the immunomodulator methyluracil, mixed on the basis of polyethylene oxides. Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic agent that interrupts the process of protein production in bacterial cells, an antagonist of most pathogenic microorganisms, and is also used in the case of purulent lesions. Methyluracil complements the anti-inflammatory effect, promotes the metabolism of nucleic acids and the restoration of damaged tissues. According to reviews, this is a good ointment for red pimples.
For generalized rashes, treat the entire skin surface before going to bed (leaving it on overnight), usually for 14 days; for isolated rashes, apply it to the pimples and the skin around them for two or three hours, then wash it off. The effect is visible after a few days.

Other anti-inflammatory ointments for acne
Other pharmacological groups of drugs are also effective against acne pathogens and are quite affordable. The main thing in the fight against acne is to determine the pathogen and your own tolerance, then the treatment will be much more effective.
A very inexpensive Streptocide ointment, the active substance of which is sulfanilamide, is capable of blocking metabolic processes inside the microbial cell. This leads to disruption of development and, ultimately, to the death of the microorganism. It is especially active against streptococcal infection. The ointment is applied pointwise to pimples in a thin layer, no more than twice a day, it can be used under a gauze bandage. Duration of use is a week. Metrogil, Rozamet and Metronidazole ointments have the same active substance (metronidazole) and, accordingly, similar properties, effectively eliminate rosacea and acne vulgaris. Their main qualities are considered to be the ability to deal with protozoa (single-celled) microorganisms and many bacteria, in particular, with some strict anaerobes. Metronidazole, reacting with the transport cellular proteins of the microbe, reaches its DNA and, destroying its structure, destroys the pathogen. The use of this substance is possible in combination with antibiotics and does not interfere with the use of other skin care cosmetics and medicines. Mites die within half an hour after application, but the ointment does not affect mite eggs. Considering the life cycle of the mite, treatment lasts from one to one and a half months. The treatment regimen with insecticidal ointment is prescribed by a doctor.
The ointment is contraindicated for pregnant and lactating women and children aged 0-2 years. Soap, interacting with the ointment, can deprive it of its bacteriostatic properties.

Antiviral ointments
Vulgar acne usually does not respond to treatment with antiviral ointments; very common herpetic eruptions are of viral origin.
Acyclovir cream – has an antiviral effect, blocking the process of viral DNA synthesis, and also – immunomodulatory. This cream is intended for the treatment of rashes caused by the herpes virus, however, there is some evidence that it can help get rid of acne. Although experts do not agree with this, since herpetic skin lesions are viral in nature, and acne is bacterial.
Herpes is treated by smearing the rash five times a day at one-hour intervals. This procedure is repeated for five to ten days. The tolerability of this remedy is quite good, although local side effects may occur.

Ointment for acne scars
Many ointments for acne have a resolving effect and eliminate not only the acne itself, but also skin defects remaining after treatment (Vishnevsky ointment, Skinoren, Traumeel, folk ointments). This ability is usually stated in the instructions for use of the ointment. As a restorative treatment, after the source of infection (for example, bacteria or demodex) is destroyed, you can, after consulting a doctor, use ointments that are not directly indicated for the treatment of acne, but heal the skin.

It is prescribed to people with leukopenia with long-term non-healing skin lesions, the treatment regimen is prescribed by a doctor. Contraindicated in malignant diseases of the blood and bone marrow.
Folk ointments for acne
People have been trying to get rid of skin defects that cause aesthetic and physical discomfort since time immemorial. Many recipes for acne ointments made from natural components of plant, mineral and animal origin are passed down from generation to generation. Modern pharmaceuticals, based on many years of experience, can offer products made on the basis of traditional medicine recipes.
Badiaga gel - contains an active substance of animal origin from the skeleton of a freshwater sponge, consisting of needle-like interlacing of silica, connected by the horny tissue of the sponge, dried and crushed. These particles, being in the gel, stimulate the skin surface and have a vasodilating effect. This leads to a more intensive blood supply to the affected areas of the skin, has an anti-inflammatory and resorption effect. The rush of blood to the areas of application is accompanied by their redness and a feeling of warmth.
The local irritant effect of the gel is complemented by plantain and yarrow. The activity of these herbs to bacteria, pro-inflammatory factors, its ability to soften and moisturize the irritated skin surface, and its nutritional properties increase synergistically. The use of the gel normalizes sebum secretion, reducing the functions of the sebaceous glands, preventing the spread of acne and cleansing the skin of existing ones. The resorption ability of the gel counteracts the appearance of post-acne, pigmentation, and swelling.
There are no contraindications for pregnant and lactating women, do not use if you are allergic to the ingredients.
Apply the gel to your face (a small amount) and leave for ten to twenty minutes, wash with warm water. It is better to apply the gel before going to bed, as it is not advisable to leave the room for three hours after the procedure. It is not recommended to apply it to skin with superficial damage, avoid contact of the gel with mucous membranes.
Tar ointment is a natural preparation based on birch tar (6%), which has antiseptic and antiparasitic properties, and is also active against demodex and the herpes virus. It effectively eliminates inflammation and itching, provides analgesia and softens diseased skin.
In combination with tar, oils function - palm and neem, natural wax and propolis, glycerin and lanolin, extracts from medicinal plants, retinol and tocopherol.
Not recommended for use by pregnant and lactating women, or on open wound surfaces.
Apply a thin layer of ointment to affected areas twice a day, or apply under a bandage. If the skin is prone to dryness and irritation, you can mix the ointment with two or three drops of any cosmetic oil before applying. The maximum duration of use is three weeks, and a repeat course of treatment can be carried out at intervals of two weeks.

A miracle ointment that, according to reviews, solves almost any skin (and other) problems, you need to make it yourself. There are several recipes for the miracle ointment:
- Ingredients: olive, sunflower or corn oil – 200 ml, natural beeswax – a piece 50 × 35 × 12 mm, ½ yolk of a boiled chicken egg. Take an enamel saucepan, put the oil in it, add the wax, put on a low heat. Simmer until the wax piece melts. Crush the yolk with a fork on a plate and sprinkle (with your fingers) the egg pieces into the saucepan. Stir, turn off the heat and let stand for no more than a quarter of an hour. Strain through a nylon sieve (cloth). Store in the refrigerator in a glass jar. Before treatment, warm the ointment in a water bath to 40 ° C. Carry out the treatment before bedtime.
- An ointment that penetrates deep into the epidermis. Ingredients: natural wax (40g); vegetable oil (100g); two tablespoons of sugar. Crumble the beeswax into the oil poured into a fireproof container, add granulated sugar and put on low heat. Melt the wax and sugar slowly, stirring until smooth. The process is long, you need to stir constantly, the sugar will burn - it's okay. Cool the resulting mixture and use. It effectively eliminates any inflammation.
- Ingredients: one tablespoon of freshly squeezed goose foot juice, 60 g of lard, one teaspoon of beeswax and a little propolis. Mix the juice with the lard, let it sit in a warm place, mix until smooth, crumble and add the wax and propolis, boil and heat on low heat for five minutes. Set aside in a warm place for about two hours. Put it in the refrigerator, but after an hour take it out and mix, repeat the procedure every hour until the ointment thickens evenly. Store in the refrigerator, spread on the damaged surface, you can use a bandage.
- The simplest recipe: combine equal proportions of butter, honey and onion chopped in a blender in a fireproof container, put it on the fire and boil, let it cool to about 40°C, mix with flour until it becomes like plasticine. Place pieces of the flatbread on the areas with pimples. Repeat the procedure until the pimples disappear completely. Store in the refrigerator.
This review includes many ointments used to treat acne, but not all of them. Any ointment can be effective if used as directed, the approach to their use is competent, and the cause of the skin defect is identified. Most ointments for acne are inexpensive drugs, almost all of them are quite affordable. You can try to get rid of acne on your own, using ointments based on folk recipes and from the first section of this review. But if improvements do not occur after several applications, you should not delay the process, you need to seek medical help.

Dosing and administration
Before using the ointment, wash your hands thoroughly and cleanse your face well with a deep-acting lotion, sometimes alcohol-containing (see the instructions for the ointment), wash with tar soap or hold your face over a container of hot water or a decoction of medicinal herbs, throwing a towel over your head. If the instructions for the ointment do not prohibit it, it is advisable to treat your cleansed face with a cream that tightens the pores, but you can avoid the affected areas or single pimples. Enlarged pores on the face will fill up anyway: nature abhors a vacuum. Therefore, it is better to use a useful cream. When the cream is absorbed, apply a medicinal ointment to the problem areas. After the morning treatment with an invisible and colorless ointment (for example, synthomycin ointment), if the instructions allow, you can use decorative cosmetics. Not all medicinal ointments are suitable as a cream under makeup. And in general, it is not advisable to use makeup during treatment. Immediately after procedures with medicinal ointments, you should not use special products for washing or make masks on the same day, unless this is specified in the instructions attached to the ointment or prescribed by a doctor.
The ointment is always applied in a thin layer, so it is better absorbed and works more effectively. When processing, avoid getting the ointment in the eyes and on the mucous membranes. During treatment, it is better to spend less time in the sun.
To protect yourself from an unexpected allergic reaction, added to the skin already irritated by acne, before using any unknown, even completely natural ointment, you need to do a test - apply a little of the product before going to bed on the delicate skin of the inner part of the forearm closer to the elbow bend and wait until the morning. If there are no blisters, redness, rash, swelling at the place of application - the ointment can be used.
