Indications for use

Indications for the use of suppositories for cystitis include symptoms of inflammation of the lower urinary tract, such as frequent urination with a small volume of intensely colored urine, burning during urination, frequent sharp or nagging pain in the lower abdomen, general weakness and chills.

Names of suppositories for cystitis

An approximate list containing the names of suppositories for cystitis can be compiled based on the drugs of this form that are most often recommended by doctors. These are vaginal suppositories for cystitis Hexicon, suppositories with palin, suppositories with synthomycin, suppositories Genferon, Betadine, Macmiror, as well as rectal suppositories for cystitis: Diclofenac, Voltaren, Indomethacin, suppositories with methyluracil.

It should be borne in mind that sexually transmitted infections (Chlamydia, Trichomonas, Gardnerella, Treponema, Ureaplasma, etc.) have a negative impact on both the lower urinary tract in women and the urethra in men, and manifest themselves with the same symptoms as cystitis. In women, cystitis often occurs against the background of bacterial vaginosis, ureaplasmosis or thrush. In men, cystitis is often diagnosed as urethritis. In addition, inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis) also has similar symptoms, so this list includes not only suppositories for cystitis in women, but also some anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving suppositories used in male urology. They are released in the form of suppositories for rectal administration.

In drug therapy of cystitis with suppositories, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic suppositories are used; some of them combine anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

Antibacterial suppositories for cystitis

Since the etiology of this disease is most often bacterial (and its main pathogens are E. coli and Staphylococcus saprophyticus), it is necessary to use antibacterial suppositories for cystitis: Hexicon, suppositories with palin, Betadine, Macmiror, syntomycin suppositories.

The pharmacodynamics of Hexicon suppositories for cystitis is provided by the active antiseptic chlorhexidine bigluconate (0.016 g in one suppository), which has bactericidal properties. The combination of chlorhexidine with phosphates on the cell membranes of bacteria, trichomonads and the Herpes simplex virus leads to their death, and Hexicon acts as a fungicide on Candida fungi.

Hexicon suppositories for cystitis, as indicated in the instructions, are intended for the treatment of vaginitis (including trichomonas), inflammation of the cervix of various origins, as well as for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. The use of these suppositories during pregnancy is possible in all trimesters. Minor side effects of Hexicon suppositories for cystitis may manifest as itching.

The recommended method of use and dosage by doctors is insertion into the vagina one or two suppositories once or twice a day for a week. However, according to the official instructions, 0.2% aqueous (sterile) chlorhexidine solution is used in the treatment of cystitis - for rinsing the bladder.

Suppositories with Palin for cystitis (synonym - Urosept) can also be used for acute pyelonephritis and urethritis in cases where the pathogens are susceptible to the action of this uroseptic. The pharmacodynamics of these suppositories is due to the pipemidic acid included in their composition, which blocks the activity of the enzyme system of pathogenic microorganisms and thereby disrupts the process of their reproduction. Suppositories do not work in the presence of cystitis against the background of damage to the urogenital tract by trichomonads, mycoplasma, chlamydia and Candida fungi.

Contraindications to the use of Palin suppositories for cystitis include kidney and liver dysfunction, CNS pathologies and pregnancy. The usual dosage is one suppository intravaginally (at night) for a week, while it is recommended to simultaneously take Palin capsules orally (with an increase in the volume of liquid consumed). This drug (in any form) can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes and its increased sensitivity to ultraviolet light, headaches, and vision problems. According to many experts, the use of Palin - in the presence of more effective drugs - is yesterday's day in urology.

The main component contained in Betadine suppositories for cystitis is povidone-iodine (200 mg in each suppository). Thanks to iodine, the action of Betadine suppositories is simultaneously antiseptic, disinfectant, bactericidal, antifungal and antiviral. Iodine oxidizes amino acids of microorganism enzymes and coagulates their proteins, which leads to the death of pathogens. Moreover, microorganisms do not develop resistance to povidone-iodine even with prolonged use of the drug. Betadine suppositories are prescribed in gynecology for candidiasis, trichomoniasis, vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis, as well as lesions of the vaginal mucosa by chlamydia, ureaplasma and mycoplasma, herpes virus and papillomavirus. Suppositories are used intravaginally at night - one per day; The course of treatment lasts one to two weeks (depending on the intensity of inflammation).

Betadine suppositories are contraindicated in cases of thyroid disease, cardiac or renal failure. The use of suppositories for cystitis during pregnancy is unacceptable due to the iodine content in the first three months.

In case of using Betadine, the interaction of suppositories for cystitis with other drugs consists of their incompatibility with all other antiseptics, which contain alkalis, oxidizers or metal salts. And an overdose of povidone-iodine can lead to the appearance of a metallic taste in the mouth and increased salivation, as well as diarrhea, edema (including pulmonary) and shortness of breath.

Syntomycin suppositories for cystitis are used in gynecological practice for lesions of the pelvic organs by staphylococci, streptococci, Escherichia coli, Shigella, Chlamydia, Klebsiella, Proteus and other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is recommended to insert one suppository into the vagina twice a day for 7-10 days.

The mechanism of pharmacological action of suppositories with antibiotic synthomycin (isomer of levomycetin) is based on the fact that the active substance of the drug damages protein-synthesizing ribosomes of bacteria. The pharmacokinetics of suppositories for cystitis based on synthomycin is distinguished by the almost complete absence of their systemic action. However, the possibility of side effects in the form of allergic reactions and suppression of the functions of the hematopoietic system is not excluded. Therefore, in case of bone marrow pathologies, porphyrin disease, as well as during pregnancy, these suppositories are contraindicated.

The instructions note that the simultaneous use of syntomycin suppositories with antibiotics such as penicillin, erythromycin, clindamycin, the therapeutic effect of all drugs is significantly reduced. The protective effect of oral contraceptives is also neutralized.

In case of infection and inflammation of the urinary tract, Macmiror suppositories are prescribed. In addition to cystitis and urethritis, indications for the use of Macmiror suppositories for cystitis include a wide range of vulvovaginal infectious lesions. These suppositories have both antibacterial properties (due to the presence of the nitrofuran antibiotic nifuratel) and antifungal properties (provided by the highly active drug nystatin). Nifuratel blocks cellular respiration and the synthesis of bacterial nucleic acids, and nystatin, integrating into the cells of pathogenic fungi, disrupts the balance of cations and anions in their cytoplasm. At the same time, nifuratel increases the effectiveness of nystatin against Candida fungi. These vaginal suppositories for cystitis should be used for at least a week - one suppository per day (inserted at night). This drug is contraindicated for pregnant women.

Anti-inflammatory suppositories for cystitis

In clinical urology, anti-inflammatory suppositories are used for symptomatic treatment of cystitis.

Methyluracil suppositories for cystitis help restore the mucous membranes of the bladder and urinary tract damaged by inflammation. They stimulate the formation of red blood cells and white blood cells, normalize intracellular metabolism and thereby accelerate the proliferation of new cells. Among the contraindications to the use of suppositories with methyluracil are myeloid leukemia, lymphogranulomatosis and malignant bone marrow pathologies. And among the side effects is a quickly passing burning sensation in the rectum. The method of using these suppositories is rectal, the dose is one suppository three times a day, the duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

Diclofenac suppositories for cystitis (synonyms - Naklofen, Dicloberl, Voltaren) are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The pharmacodynamics of suppositories for cystitis with NSAIDs is associated with blocking the production of prostaglandins in the inflammation site, which conduct pain, inflammation and thermal signals from receptors to the corresponding areas of the brain.

The pharmacokinetics of suppositories for cystitis with diclofenac sodium have the same characteristics in terms of bioavailability and metabolism as with internal use of NSAIDs, but the maximum concentration in the blood plasma is noted after half an hour, and when using the tablet form of the drug - almost after two. Diclofenac is completely eliminated from the blood after about 4 hours, and metabolites are eliminated from the body by the kidneys.

Diclofenac suppositories are effective for pain and inflammation of any tissue, including the mucous membranes of the bladder. They should be inserted into the rectum - one suppository twice a day, the maximum daily dose is 150 mg (three suppositories of 50 mg), and the duration of use should not exceed 7 days.

Contraindications for the use of Diclofenac suppositories for cystitis (as well as other suppositories with NSAIDs): aspirin intolerance; bronchial asthma; ulcerative and inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract; severe forms of renal, hepatic and cardiac insufficiency. During pregnancy, the use of suppositories for cystitis with NSAIDs is possible (with caution and under the supervision of a doctor) in the first and second trimester, in the last three months - contraindicated.

Side effects of Diclofenac cystitis suppositories include abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and flatulence, headache and dizziness, decreased or increased blood pressure, skin rash. Overdose may lead to increased side effects, as well as gastric bleeding and cramps.

The interaction of cystitis suppositories with other drugs deserves special attention. Diclofenac and all NSAIDs cannot be used together with Paracetamol, Methotrexate and cyclosporines (due to nephrotoxic effects), with anticoagulants and antithrombotic agents (there is a risk of gastric bleeding), as well as with diuretics (hyperkalemia may develop). Also, these suppositories cannot be used together with Palin and all quinolone antibiotics due to the likelihood of seizures.

Voltaren suppositories for cystitis contain diclofenac as an active ingredient. They are used rectally, similar to the described Diclofenac suppositories.

Indomethacin suppositories for cystitis with the active substance based on indoleacetic acid also belong to the pharmacological group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and therefore all the main characteristics, including contraindications, as well as the use of suppositories for cystitis during pregnancy, are identical to Diclofenac suppositories.

In addition, doctors recommend propolis suppositories for acute and chronic cystitis. Thanks to the two hundred natural beneficial substances included in the bee glue, damaged mucous membranes of the bladder and urinary tract heal well. Suppositories are used vaginally - 1-2 times a day, the course of treatment is 5-7 days. But these suppositories are not suitable for those who are allergic to honey and bee products.

Pain-relieving suppositories for cystitis

Pain associated with inflammation of the bladder is relieved by the above-mentioned rectal suppositories for cystitis: Diclofenac, Voltaren, Indomethacin.

Papaverine suppositories for cystitis (0.02 g) are also administered rectally - one suppository twice a day. These suppositories contain the alkaloid papaverine hydrochloride, which is a myotropic antispasmodic, and the weakening of the muscle tone of the bladder leads to the cessation of pain. Papaverine is contraindicated in cases of increased intraocular pressure (glaucoma), atherosclerosis (especially in adulthood), tachycardia and renal or hepatic insufficiency.

Side effects of suppositories for cystitis with papaverine are manifested by reddening of the skin, nausea, dizziness, cardiac extrasystole, constipation. In case of overdose, a decrease in blood pressure, weakness, drowsiness, and double vision are noted.

Genferon suppositories for cystitis contain human recombinant interferon alpha, sulfur-containing amino acid taurine and anesthetic benzocaine. According to the information provided in the instructions for this drug, suppositories have immunomodulatory, antibacterial and anesthetic properties. The first two beneficial effects are provided by interferon, which stimulates intracellular enzymes, and taurine, which activates intra-tissue biochemical processes and improves the healing of damaged tissues. And the local anesthetic effect is provided by benzocaine (ethyl-4-aminobenzoate), which blocks nerve signals by changing the ionic potential of the cellular membranes of pain receptors.

Contraindications to the use of Genferon suppositories are pregnancy in the first trimester, acute allergic conditions and autoimmune diseases. Therapy with this drug may be accompanied by headaches and muscle pain, fever, sweating, fatigue and weakness.

Method of administration and dosage: Genferon suppositories are used vaginally or rectally, one suppository twice a day for 10 days.

And the prices of suppositories for cystitis - for a package of 10 pieces - are very different. Thus, Hexicon suppositories cost on average 150-160 UAH, Betadine - 210-215 UAH, Voltaren - from 60 UAH, methyluracil suppositories and Diclofenac - 16-20 UAH.

Storage conditions

Obviously, it is useful to know that the storage conditions for suppositories for cystitis involve the absence of light and moisture, as well as the appropriate temperature conditions. For storing methyluracil and synthomycin suppositories, suppositories with palin, as well as suppositories Genferon, Hexicon, Macmiror, Diclofenac, etc., the temperature should not be higher than +20-25°C. Betadine suppositories should be stored at a temperature of +10-15°C.

Best before date

The shelf life of most candles is limited to two years, Palin candles can be used for five years after their production.

Reviews

Reviews of suppositories for cystitis are also different, since their effectiveness largely depends on how much their prescription takes into account the cause of the disease. So the best suppositories for cystitis are those that will help in treatment with the least side effects and in the shortest time - with the right combination with drugs for internal use recommended by the doctor.
