Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of the drug Macmiror is the nitrofuran drug nifuratel.

Studies have confirmed the extensive antimicrobial action of nifuratel, which is especially evident in infectious lesions of the urinary and reproductive systems. The principle of action of the drug has not been thoroughly studied. However, it has been determined that Macmiror has a metabolic effect on enzymes that promote the development and growth of bacteria. The drug has a similar effect on trichomonas.

Macmiror can be used as an antimicrobial agent to affect gram (+) and gram (-) aerobes and anaerobes. The lowest effective dosage can be from 2.5 to 5 mcg per ml.

Macmiror has a strong inhibitory effect on chlamydia and a weaker effect on ureaplasma and mycoplasma. The antifungal effect is less noticeable when compared with Ketoconazole or Flutrimazole.

The extensive antimicrobial effect of Macmiror allows it to be used for any infections of the genital and urinary organs. At the same time, nifuratel does not suppress lactobacilli, which are part of the natural composition of high-quality bacterial flora: due to this, recovery from vaginal inflammatory pathologies is accelerated, and re-infection is excluded.

The drug demonstrates a good effect in the treatment of patients with intestinal diseases - amebiasis or giardiasis. There is also information about the significant antiprotozoal ability of Macmiror.

Macmiror does not lead to the development of cross-resistance of bacteria to other antimicrobial drugs.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration of 0.2 g, Macmiror is rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract. The level of the active ingredient in blood plasma 120 minutes after administration was about 9.48 mcg per ml.

The active substance is quickly distributed throughout all tissues in the body. The half-life can be approximately 2.75 hours.

About half a percent of the active ingredient is excreted unchanged in urine. The rest leaves the body in the form of residual metabolic products.

Nifuratel, the active ingredient, was not detected in intrahepatic circulation.
