Peponen is of plant origin – it is based on oil extracted from pumpkin seeds.

The drug helps relieve pain in people with prostatitis, stabilizes the urination process, increases potency, activates the immune function and weakens the growth of prostate cells. At the same time, it stabilizes the chemical structure of bile and metabolism, normalizes the functioning of the gallbladder and reduces inflammation. [ 1 ]

Demonstrates reparative, choleretic, anti-atherosclerotic, as well as metabolic, disinfectant, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and antiulcer activity.

Indications Peponen

It is used to relieve symptoms observed in benign prostate enlargement (including frequent urination at night and painful urination).

Release form

The medicinal product is released in capsules - 10 pieces inside a cell plate. There are 10 such plates inside a pack.

Pharmacodynamics

Oil produced from pumpkin seeds contains a large amount of polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as their derivatives, which act as precursors of PG. The presence of ergosterol, β-sitosterol and campesterol in the oil provides a modulating effect on COX.

Linoleic acid has a large number of biochemical properties, therefore it has a double effect - it is an extremely important fatty acid for the body, and also a precursor of PG elements.

Squalene and sterols are components of pumpkin seed oil and act as intermediate compounds in the formation of sterols in the human body, and at the same time significantly affect the lipoprotein structure of blood plasma (they significantly reduce LDL levels, due to which the proportions of the lipoprotein composition shift towards HDL).

Linolenic and linoleic acids act as precursors for the binding of PG, as well as precursors for the processes of cerebroside biosynthesis.

The tocopherol content in pumpkin seeds is more than 30%; tocopherol itself is an antioxidant. In addition, the drug is a powerful natural source of retinol. Pumpkin seed oil contains coenzyme Q, which is an important component in activating the action of human macrophages.

Selenium, like tocopherol, has been shown in experimental studies to have a protective effect on enzymes, hormones, lipids and vitamins under the influence of oxidative destruction processes.

Pharmacokinetics

Polyunsaturated fatty acids penetrate the body in the form of triacylglycerols. They then participate in hydrolysis processes (with the participation of lipases of the small intestine and pancreas) and pass into the intestinal epithelial cells in the form of free fatty acids.

Inside enterocytes they participate in reacylation, and then form chylomicrons together with cholesterol, as well as apoproteins and phospholipids. Chylomicrons participate in systemic blood flow and lymphatic circulation, and in addition, they are broken down under the influence of lipoprotein lipases, releasing fatty acids. Then fatty acids penetrate into various cell walls, are broken down or accumulate.

Dosing and administration

The medicine is taken after meals, washed down with warm or cold water; the dose is 2 capsules, 3 times a day. The treatment cycle lasts 1 month.

The capsules must be swallowed quickly, without holding them in the mouth, because when the gelatin swells, the shell becomes sticky, making the swallowing process difficult.

  • Application for children

Peponen is not used for therapy in pediatrics.

Use Peponen during pregnancy

The drug is not used for treatment in women.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • active phase of ulcer development in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • cholelithiasis.

Side effects Peponen

Main side effects:

  • lesions affecting the digestive system: gastrointestinal disorders (including heartburn, abdominal pain, dyspeptic symptoms and nausea); with prolonged use, diarrhea or loose stools occasionally appear;
  • immune disorders: symptoms of hypersensitivity;
  • Disorders of the auditory organs and labyrinth: tinnitus.

Overdose

After a single use of the drug in an excessively large dose, dyspeptic disorders, lethargy and nausea may be observed. The described manifestations disappear on their own after reducing the dosage of the drug or its withdrawal.

Administration of high doses of Peponen over a long period of time increases the likelihood of adverse effects occurring.

Interactions with other drugs

It is necessary to use the drug in combination with anticoagulants (including warfarin or acenocoumarol) with extreme caution and care, because (as with the combined use of anticoagulants with food and other plant extracts) this can cause an increase in the INR indicator.

H2-blocking agents, antacids, bismuth agents and drugs that inhibit proton pump activity reduce the absorption of pumpkin seed oil and the intensity of the therapeutic effect of the drug.

Storage conditions

Peponen should be stored in a place closed to small children. Temperature level – no more than 25°C.

Shelf life

Peponen can be used for a period of 24 months from the date of manufacture of the medicinal product.

Analogues

Analogues of the drug are Bioprost with Peponen Active and Pumpkin Seed Oil.
