The medicinal plant thermopsis lanceolate has long been noticed by alternative healers and began to be used to treat diseases of the respiratory organs, accompanied by an unproductive cough. An infusion of grass with soda helped to quickly transfer it to productive and remove most of the phlegm from the respiratory tract. It is not difficult to make an infusion, but it is even easier to swallow a ready-made tablet, consisting of a powder of dry herb thermopsis and sodium bicarbonate, that is, ordinary baking soda. Termopsol tablets for cough are absolutely natural, but they are not synonymous with "harmless". The herb is poisonous, one of its alternative names is arsenic or drunken herb, suggesting what effects it can cause too much. The toxic properties of the herb allow it to be used in the fight against helminthiasis - in parallel with a cough, you can get rid of worms.

Most of all, users are interested in the question: Termopsol tablets from which dry or wet cough? The herb powder has a local irritating effect on the mucous membranes of the respiratory organs, providing more active peristaltic movements of the small bronchi and flickering of epithelial cilia, and soda, which is a second active ingredient in each tablet, dilutes phlegm, so that it begins to quickly go out. This effect is valuable precisely with a dry barking cough, when thick and viscous sputum collects in large quantities in the upper respiratory tract, and they lose the ability to self-purify. Therefore, Termopsol tablets for coughing are not used for long, until it enters the productive phase and the bulk of the accumulated mucus will not come out. For five days of its use, the cough will not go away at all, but it will become easier to breathe, coughing attacks will become less frequent and easier, and intense coughing will begin. At the stage of residual effects, Thermopsol tablets, and other expectorants are no longer needed. The body will cope on its own, constant humidification of the air in the room and frequent drinking can help it at this stage.

Indications Thermopsol for cough

The medicine is prescribed to patients with inflammatory diseases of the upper and lower parts of the respiratory organs (tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia) with difficult separation of the tracheobronchial secretion in order to dilute it and increase the effectiveness of the cough. Usually as part of complex therapy.

Release form

Thermopsol, tablets contain two components - powder of the herb Thermopsis lanceolatae herba (6.7 mg), which stimulates expectoration, and soda (250 mg), which has a secretolytic effect. Potato starch and talc are used as binders. [1]

Pharmacodynamics

Dry grass powder, due to the content of isocholine alkaloids in it, stimulates the bronchial glands and smooth muscles of the respiratory tract, providing a powerful expectorant effect. Moderately activates the secretory function of the gastric glands, which is associated with an undesirable side effect that develops in people suffering from peptic ulcer disease.

The alkaloid pachicarpin promotes increased respiration, however, when using tablets in the recommended dose, this effect is quite moderate and favors the evacuation of sputum from the respiratory tract. Pachikarpin activates smooth muscle peristalsis, which promotes sputum excretion. But it also tones the muscles of the uterus. Even before it was widely used to stimulate labor, so pregnant women should not treat their cough with "harmless" herb thermopsis.

The alkaloid anagirin stimulates the respiratory center, and thermopsin stimulates the emetic. In moderate doses, it also speeds up the removal of phlegm and quickly relieves the patient. In high doses, undesirable effects may appear, so you need to carefully study the instructions for the drug.

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) reduces the viscosity of the phlegm, which contributes to its successful elimination.

Pharmacokinetics

The tablet, entering the stomach, quickly dissolves under the action of gastric juice. Its components are absorbed into the systemic circulation through the walls of the small intestine and have a rapid effect, with the blood flow entering the brain and acting on the respiratory and vomiting centers, as well as stimulating smooth muscle peristalsis. Soda has a mucolytic effect. The complex effect contributes to the rapid (the action of the drug, according to reviews, begins within an hour after ingestion) the release of the respiratory tract from mucus, the elimination of which is carried out by expectoration. The distribution of the components of the drug in the body has not been studied in more detail.

Dosing and administration

The recommended dose for adult patients is one tablet, for older children and adolescents - half a tablet. Swallow whole three times a day, drinking plenty of water and drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day to improve expectoration. The duration of admission should not exceed three to five days. At the beginning of the intake, the cough may intensify, however, if after the specified period there has been no improvement in the condition, you need to inform your doctor about it.

It should be noted that for adult patients with renal failure, the dose should be reduced to two tablets per day, for children, it is better to give preference to an analogue with a safer profile.

  • Application for children

According to the instructions, the use of tablets is not allowed until the child reaches the age of 12, although reliable studies have not been carried out in this group of patients.

Use Thermopsol for cough during pregnancy

Considering the alkaloid pachicarpin contained in the thermopsis herb, which can cause contraction of the smooth muscles of the uterus and its hypertonicity, cough tablets are contraindicated in pregnant women due to the increased risk of miscarriage and premature birth, as well as inhibition of respiratory function.

For nursing mothers, the use of the drug is not desirable due to the ability of alkaloids to penetrate into breast milk and, accordingly, cause unwanted reactions in a breastfed infant.

Contraindications

Pregnancy and lactation, sensitization to the ingredients of the tablets, peptic ulcer disease, streaks of blood in sputum, age younger than 12 years.

Side effects Thermopsol for cough

In the recommended doses, the components of the drug can cause hypersensitivity reactions and maximum - nausea, if the dose is exceeded - vomiting and respiratory depression, urinary retention, constipation.

Overdose

Muscle weakness, hyperhidrosis, pallor, cyanosis, dizziness, vomiting, vomiting, disorders of the intestines and urinary organs, dysfunction of the ciliary muscles, in severe cases - respiratory depression, impaired consciousness and affect, fainting, hallucinatory manifestations, convulsions.

Symptomatic therapy - sorbents, removal of drug residues from the stomach and intestines using lavage and enema, saline laxatives. In severe cases, an ambulance must be called. In the hospital, the symptoms of an overdose are stopped by injections of atropine, an opiate receptor blocker naloxone can be used, and the respiratory center is stimulated with the use of respiratory analeptics.

Interactions with other drugs

It is not recommended to use thermopsis tablets simultaneously with sorbents, as they reduce the expectorant effect.

Also, it is not prescribed in combination with drugs that suppress coughs, for example, containing codeine.

Storage conditions

Be sure to observe the storage conditions of the drug specified by the manufacturer: store at room temperature no more than 25 ℃ in places protected from direct sunlight and inaccessible to children and animals.

Shelf life

You should not use the drug if the expiration date indicated on the package has expired. It is usually four years from the date of release of the tablets.

Analogs

Mucolytic drugs have a similar effect. On a natural basis, it is Mukaltin. Its active ingredient is licorice root. It is produced not only in tablets, but also in the form of a syrup. It is prescribed for children from one year of age and is suitable for longer use.

Bronchipret mixture (thyme extract and tincture of ivy leaves) has a plant base. It is prescribed from the age of six, the course of treatment is two weeks.

Sinupret tablets (gentian, primrose, sorrel, elderberry, verbena) are mainly intended to remove secretions from the upper sections of the sinuses, however, the drug also has a general secretolytic effect. It is prescribed from the age of six, takes one to two weeks.

There are also many chemicals, such as those based on acetylcysteine. But opinion about them is ambiguous, from drugs with unproven efficacy to killer drugs.

In general, the choice of drug should be discussed with your doctor. The age of the patient, the tolerance of certain components, the severity of the disease play an important role.

Reviews of the pills are very good (96% positive). The performance is emphasized: the five days indicated in the instructions are quite enough for serious improvements - the disappearance of wheezing, restoration of the ability to breathe deeply. Some even do it in three days. True, the residual phenomena in the form of coughing remain for some time, but this is natural. In severe forms, adults sometimes took up to five tablets a day (as recommended by a doctor). Almost no one indicated any drawbacks, one patient was slightly nauseous after taking on an empty stomach. Some "brave" parents gave their children a whole tablet, or used to treat children under 12 years old. They say that there were no unpleasant consequences, although such an extreme is not justified.
