"Sore teeth: what to do?" - this question is not just relevant, for people suffering from toothache, this is perhaps the only thought that engulfs the brain, especially when the pain is acute. Of course, toothache is a clear and unambiguous signal that the process of inflammation, destruction of the tooth or gum has already reached the extreme. If the pain has just begun, then many of us try to cope with it on our own. But when home remedies do not help, a visit to the dentist is the only way to get rid of excruciating pain. Toothache can be varied in subjective sensations and is caused by various causes.

Causes of the pain in the teeth

Pulpitis is an acute process of inflammation, damage to the soft tissues of the tooth (the nerve is a vascular bundle). The causative agent most often are microorganisms from the coccal family - streptococci, staphylococci, which enter the pulp as a result of tooth decay or tooth trauma. Symptoms of pulpitis are characterized by very intense pain, which increases at night, and spreads over the gum. Also, the tooth may be affected by a change in temperature (cold or too hot food, liquid).

Periodontitis is an inflammation in the tissues and the membrane of the root of the tooth. The reason is almost always common - chronic caries. Periodontitis is manifested with increasing pain, which becomes very acute, pulsating. The pain is often localized near the inflamed root, increases with eating, when the tooth is subjected to mechanical stress. Periodontitis is often accompanied by chills, fever.

Periodontitis is a dental problem of the century according to dental statistics, almost 100% of the population, regardless of national, class and age, suffer from this or that form of periodontitis. Parodont - bone, gums, ligaments and mucous membranes - everything that holds the tooth in place is infected with bacteria that are constantly in the mouth. Initially, the process of destruction is invisible, as the mucous membranes (gingivitis) are affected, then the inflammation passes to the gums, and the tooth loses its stability, support. Gradually, specific "pockets" are formed between the tooth itself and the gum holding zone, where microbes continue to multiply in comfort conditions, without access to oxygen, in a humid environment. Pathological destruction also reaches the bone of the tooth. The cause of periodontitis may be a general weakness of the immune system, tooth decay, unsuccessful prosthetics, tooth trauma. Symptoms of periodontitis differ in a kind of "insidiousness", because in the initial stage nothing shows itself. The first painful sensations begin to disturb the person at the middle stage of the development of the process, and acute pain appears when the disease is already becoming chronic and affects several teeth, and sometimes the entire gum. The first symptoms that should alert a person are an unusual smell and some irritability, the sensitivity of the tooth or several teeth to a cold or hot effect. Bleeding, mobility of the tooth are already signs of a developed periodontal process.

Filling the tooth - this procedure is often accompanied by a short pain, which should go through two or three days. If the pain does not subside, you should visit the dentist again to find out the cause of persistent pain.

Pain after tooth extraction. This is a natural painful sensation, as this procedure inevitably injures tissues near the operated tooth. The pain is temporary, transient, if the pain does not subside after 3-4 days, you need to seek help from a dentist - perhaps the nerve is not completely removed.

Pain under the prosthetic tooth, crown. Painful sensations after prosthetics are natural for several days. If the pain grows and does not go away within a week, you need to go back to the doctor to find out the cause. Most often, pain around the tooth or under the crown itself can be caused by a not completely cleaned channel in preparation for prosthetics. Often the root canal itself suffers during the procedure, its perforation is possible.

Pain caused by a major non-dental disease:

It can be an inflammation of the trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for sensations in the face and in the mouth in particular. Pain with such inflammation is very similar to tooth pain. Also, toothache can cause and herpetic neuralgia (shingles). These painful sensations are not treated by dentists, you need to contact a neurologist or a doctor who can differentiate the symptomatology and make a correct diagnosis.

Sinusitis is often accompanied by pain in the teeth. Since the roots of the teeth are in the upper jaw, any inflammation of the adjacent sinuses can be painful in the teeth. Painful sensations, as a rule, are aching, spilled, can be pulsating, pressing. Often the pain radiates into the zone under the eye.

Angina pectoris is the most dangerous cause, as it can be a heart attack as the main disease that manifests atypical symptoms. The pain may partially manifest in the left hand, and then immediately go into the zone of the lower jaw. If the teeth did not disturb before the appearance of such pain, there are no dental diseases, with the manifestation of pain localized in the posterior zone of the lower jaw, it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor. In this sense, it is better to immediately exclude cardiac pathology and to be reinsured.

Pain as a symptom of salivary stone disease. Inflammation of the duct of the salivary gland is often manifested only in the acute stage. Typical symptoms of this disease are constant dryness, a feeling of irritation in the mouth. Often a person does not pay attention to these manifestations, the concrement in the gland continues to develop and clogs the duct. Then there is pain in the nearby tooth and a small swelling at the bottom of the jaw. The diagnosis is made with the help of an anamnesis and an X-ray.

What do need to examine?

Treatment of the pain in the teeth

If the pain is acute, in the evening, when there is no opportunity to go to the dental clinic, you can take an anesthetic - ketones, ketalgin, ketorol. These are drugs from the group of NSAIDs - non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which have a fairly strong anesthetic effect. Such drugs are contraindicated in cases of kidney and liver disease, they can not be used by pregnant women, including women breastfeeding. These drugs will not cure the tooth, but will help to endure the pain until the morning, when a visit to the doctor will be possible.

If taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is contraindicated, you can try other drugs and external methods, the means:

  • Carefully brush your teeth with a special antiseptic paste (clean out foreign particles, food residues).
  • On the affected area, put a cotton swab moistened with the drug "Dental Drops" or "Denta". If drops in the home medicine cabinet are not available, you can moisten the cotton swab with novocaine.
  • Take the paracetamol tablet.
  • Rinse the mouth with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or furacilin (2 tablets dissolved in a glass of purified warm water).
  • If possible, rinse your mouth with infusion of herbs, you can dilute 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a glass of warm water. Rinse is performed as follows: to put the solution into the mouth, tilt the head, so that the liquid is on the side of the sick tooth, hold for 1-2 minutes.
  • It is not recommended, and more often than not, any heating of a sick tooth, gums. You can not try to open an abscess on your own and so on.
  • It is advisable immediately after the first aid to visit the dentist's office, without delaying the visit even if the pain subsided.

Are your teeth aching? What to do in each case?

If a part of the face is swollen from the side of the cheekbone, not just a pimple appears on the cheek, but a real fistula, you need to contact the dental clinic as soon as possible. Similar symptoms, accompanied by pain, speak of an inflammatory process that turns into a purulent process. Do not apply compresses and lotions, it is better not to rinse your mouth and not take a tablet on the day of the visit. All this will smear the picture of the symptoms and may complicate the precise diagnosis.

Sore teeth all over the gums - this is a sign not only of damage to the inside of the teeth, but also an inflammatory process in the gums. Before consulting a dentist, you can rinse the sick gum with a decoction of St. John's wort and chamomile (mix in equal proportions, brew 1 tablespoon with a glass of boiling water, insist 30 minutes, cool to room temperature). You can also take a pill of ketanov, preferably at night, when the pain intensifies. You can not apply to the gums of rubbed garlic cloves, cloves or acetylsalicylic acid - all this can exacerbate the irritation of the mucosa and increase inflammation. These recommendations relate to the first day, when the teeth hurt, what people do not know. The next day, you should seek help from a doctor.

If a characteristic crunch or click is heard while eating, accompanied by aching pain, this may indicate a pathological change in the lower part of the jaw (in the joint). In addition, that the joint is very sore, it can signal serious diseases such as meningitis, epilepsy. Therefore, if the sensation of chewing is accompanied by clicks, a specific crunch, you should immediately contact a dental surgeon. The first aid is the reception of anesthetics - analgin, paracetamol, you can rinse your mouth with a weak saline solution containing iodine (1 teaspoon per glass of warm water and a drop of iodine).

If the gums are inflamed, sore and bleeding, the first aid is rinsing with herbal decoction: 1 teaspoon of sage grass is brewed in a glass of boiling water for 20 minutes, the broth is filtered, half of a teaspoon of soda and a quarter of a teaspoon of salt are added to it. Then you need to visit the dental office, cure the cause of inflammation and then use special toothpastes - Revidont Professional, Radonta, Lacalut Aktiv. Also, a good effect is given by rinsing the oral cavity with Corsodyl, chlohexidine.

Sore teeth, what to do if the tongue also hurts. The tongue can get sick if it is affected by small ulcers or cracks due to trauma or due to a common gastrointestinal disease. Pain in the teeth is irraddiruyuschey, so you need to treat not teeth, and language. Well helps rinsing the decoction of chamomile with soda - soda softens the mucous, chamomile removes the inflammatory process. It is necessary to visit not only the dentist, but also the therapist, gastroenterologist.

Pain in the teeth is accompanied by their mobility. Before the reception at the dentist, you can take a tablet of spasmalgon, ibuprofen or ketanov, then rinse every hour with the oral cavity with a solution of furacilin or decoction of oak bark (1 teaspoon is brewed with a glass of boiling water, the broth is infused for 30-40 minutes, cooled to a comfortable temperature ). Oak bark has a binding, astringent action, but the broth is a temporary aid. Treatment should appoint a doctor.

Sore teeth, what to do if the pain does not subside after tooth extraction. First, after the procedure, you can not eat and drink hot liquids for 2-3 hours. Intensive pain can be removed with pills - ketane, ketalgin, ibuprofen. During the first one after removing the day, it is necessary to rinse frequently with a solution of soda and salt (dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt and soda in half a liter of boiled chilled water). To the cheek it is possible to apply cold compresses, changing them as they warm up (warming is by no means impossible). Pain removes a tampon moistened with dental drops, an elixir containing menthol. The tampon should be moistened in a solution (5-7 drops per half a cup of boiled water) and applied to the gums from the side of the removed tooth. Wet undiluted drops of a tampon is not recommended, since their concentration is high - it can be a burn mucous.

It is not recommended, and more often than not, any heating of a sick tooth, gums. You can not try to open an abscess on your own and so on.

It is advisable immediately after the first aid to visit the dentist's office, without delaying the visit even if the pain subsided.

Teeth hurt - what to do? - this question will not arise if you carefully monitor the condition of the oral cavity, visit the dentist regularly, even when the toothache does not bother you. Prevention is the most affordable, effective and relatively inexpensive way to get rid of not only toothache, but also of many other diseases.
