With the help of guaifenesin, the surface tension of the bronchi and lung tissue decreases, and the serous component of sputum increases, as a result of which the viscosity of sputum decreases, and the ciliary apparatus of the bronchi is activated. All this facilitates the discharge of sputum, and contributes to the fact that the cough goes from an unproductive state to a productive one, in which sputum is discharged.
Menthol has an antispasmodic effect on the body and also stimulates the secretion of the bronchial glands. Menthol has an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect. Menthol also soothes the mucous membrane, reduces irritation of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.
