- irritation of the mucous tissues of the lower parts of the large intestine.
Pharmacodynamics
The action of sea buckthorn suppositories is based on the properties of the main component of the preparation - sea buckthorn oil. This oil is a valuable product with a rich bioactive composition, which contains a number of vitamins and minerals, polyunsaturated fatty acids and other substances necessary for the body.
How does sea buckthorn oil “work” against hemorrhoids?
- Sea buckthorn suppositories have an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the activity of “mast cells”, which promote the production of histamine, prostaglandins, and cytokines.
- Sea buckthorn serves as an antioxidant, protecting tissues from the negative effects of free radicals.
- Sea buckthorn oil is capable of destroying many bacteria, such as E. coli, staphylococcus, or salmonella.
- Sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids help restore tissues destroyed by inflammation, as well as stimulate the formation of new healthy tissue.
- Sea buckthorn prevents the formation of rough scars and cicatrices. Thanks to this, the healing process proceeds gently and gradually.
- The anti-cancer effect of sea buckthorn suppositories has also been proven: the oil component prevents the degeneration of various lesions into malignant neoplasms.

Pharmacokinetics
The period and rate of absorption, activity, and metabolic processes of sea buckthorn components that enter the rectal cavity in the form of sea buckthorn suppositories have not been sufficiently studied.
It is known that the initial effect of suppositories is observed within 15-90 minutes after the drug is administered. The therapeutic effect of suppositories lasts from 2 to 6 hours.
Dosing and administration
The most optimal scheme for using sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids can only be prescribed by the attending physician. In most cases, the medication is used daily for 10-14 days. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated after 1.5-2 months.
Sea buckthorn suppositories are best placed immediately before bedtime (preferably after defecation). The suppository is inserted completely into the anus, after performing hygiene procedures, with clean, dry hands. After the procedure, hands should be washed with soap and taken to a horizontal position (for at least half an hour, so that the drug has time to act).
The dosage of suppositories can be determined according to the following scheme:
- children from 6 to 14 years old use 1 sea buckthorn candle once a day;
- Children over 14 years of age and adults use 1 sea buckthorn candle 1-2 times a day.

Use sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids. during pregnancy
The opinions of medical specialists regarding the use of sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids during pregnancy are ambiguous. The instructions suggest the possibility of using the drug during pregnancy only as a last resort. However, many doctors prescribe sea buckthorn oil to pregnant women, as they believe that this natural drug cannot cause harm under any circumstances.
It is worth noting that scientists have not conducted any thorough studies on this subject, and there is simply no information on the effect of suppositories on fetal development and pregnancy. Therefore, it can be assumed that it is permissible to use suppositories with sea buckthorn during pregnancy, but only a doctor can prescribe such a drug, since the treatment will be carried out under his supervision.
Self-administration of sea buckthorn suppositories by pregnant and lactating women is not recommended.
Contraindications
Despite the safety of sea buckthorn oil, sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids cannot be used by everyone.
Contraindications apply to people who suffer from hypersensitivity to the components of the suppositories, or an allergy to sea buckthorn fruits.
It is not advisable to use suppositories during diarrhea, as they can increase peristalsis and will not have time to fully manifest their therapeutic effect.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not considered contraindications to the use of sea buckthorn suppositories, however, the treatment process must be supervised by a medical specialist.
Side effects sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids.
The most common side effect that occurs during treatment with sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids is a burning or itching sensation in the anal sphincter area. This sensation is transient, as it is associated with the penetration of sea buckthorn oil into cracks and microdamage to tissues, and goes away on its own.
Very rarely, sea buckthorn oil causes digestive disorders, and even more rarely, an allergic reaction.
If any unpleasant sensations or symptoms appear during the treatment of hemorrhoids with sea buckthorn suppositories, you should temporarily stop using the drug and consult a doctor.
Overdose
After rectal use of large doses of suppositories, transient digestive upset may occur, which manifests itself in the form of diarrhea and bloating. This phenomenon goes away on its own when the number of suppositories used is reduced.
If the signs of an overdose do not disappear, but, on the contrary, intensify, then it makes sense to immediately consult a doctor for medical advice.
Systemic overdose of sea buckthorn suppositories has not occurred.
Interactions with other drugs
It is not advisable to simultaneously prescribe several different rectal medications, such as suppositories, candles, and intrarectal tablets.
Sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids are perfectly combined with any injections, oral tablets, solutions, syrups, capsules, as well as ointments, creams or compresses. Treatment of hemorrhoids with suppositories can be supplemented by sitz baths or applying lotions.

Storage conditions
If you store sea buckthorn candles in a warm place, they can simply melt. Therefore, it is best to store them in a cool place - for example, in the refrigerator, without removing them from the factory blister. Each candle is removed from the package only immediately before use.
Children should not be allowed to touch, open or play with medications, as this may lead to unpredictable negative consequences.
Shelf life
Sea buckthorn suppositories, which are used to treat hemorrhoids, can be stored for up to one and a half years, subject to storage conditions.
If during this period the candles have changed their appearance, if a foreign aroma has appeared or the color has changed, then such a preparation is considered unsuitable for use.
If the expiration date of the drug has expired, but the suppositories have not changed externally, this does not mean that they can be used further: after the expiration date, the drug should be thrown away.
Sea buckthorn suppositories for hemorrhoids are one of the safest and most effective medications, especially at the initial stage of the disease. If you combine treatment with suppositories and a diet for hemorrhoids, a positive result will be found very soon.
