It is good when the herb, as the main active ingredient of the drug, has a useful expectorant or bronchodilator effect for difficult cough. But bronchitis is not only a cough, but also a severe inflammation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. Symptoms of the disease can be: weakness, chest pain, fever, headaches. Such a clinical picture requires a comprehensive approach to treatment, which can be achieved by simultaneously taking herbs with different mechanisms of therapeutic action.

The same effect can be achieved by using multi-component herbal remedies from the pharmacy. These can be breast infusions or preparations based on several herbs that have healing properties for bronchitis. That's what we'll talk about now.

Linkas

A growingly popular drug for cough, bronchitis and other inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system, consisting entirely of plant components. And there are not two or three of these components, but at least eight.

What else is interesting about the drug? The variety of forms of release, which makes it possible to use it in different groups of patients. These are 3 types of syrups, one of which does not contain sugar and can be used in the treatment of patients with diabetes, and round lozenges with different flavors, and powder for making a healing drink, and herbal balm.

Pharmacodynamics. In the composition of syrups and lozenges we find the following herbs: licorice, wild pansy, marshmallow, eucalyptus, mint and some other oils, the properties of which we have already discussed in the article about herbs for bronchitis. But there we were talking about the most popular herbs, most of which are familiar to readers firsthand, and besides, they can be prepared independently on the spot, without going on multi-day trips.

But such plants as adhatoda, medicinal hyssop, galangal, cordia, jujube, onosma bracteatum, pippali pepper, star anise, yellow nightshade, basil are not familiar to everyone, and there may be difficulties with the preparation of such herbal medicines. Nevertheless, the role of these herbs in the healing effect of the drug with a unique composition "Linkas" should not be underestimated. So adhatoda, jujube, cordia, star anise have an excellent expectorant effect. Pippoli pepper is considered an effective antitussive with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect, which also prevents allergic reactions. Galangal and nightshade are listed as excellent anti-inflammatory agents with a pronounced bactericidal effect.

The powder also contains: white willow bark, valerian roots, Chinese tea leaves, and fennel. Willow, along with galangal and basil, helps relieve symptoms of fever (lowers body temperature) and inflammation, and has an antiseptic and analgesic effect. Fennel promotes easy expectoration and soothes the nervous system (like valerian), making coughing less painful.

As for the essential oils in the Linkas balm, together they provide a mucolytic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect.

Thus, the composition of the drug is selected taking into account all possible symptoms of bronchitis, which means that treatment with it will give good results.

Method of administration and dosage. Linkas syrups have a pleasant herbal taste, which does not require dilution with water. Syrups, suspensions and lozenges are taken regardless of meal time. Children can be treated with syrup starting from 6 months of age.

Children under 8 years of age are given the medicine 3 times a day, for older patients the frequency of administration will be 4 times a day. Up to 3 years of age, children can be given ½ teaspoon of sweet medicine, then the single dose will be 1 teaspoon. Adult patients will have to increase the dose to 2 teaspoons.

The lozenges are prescribed only to adult patients and no more than 8 pieces per day with an interval between doses of at least 2 hours.

The powder is taken orally after it is completely dissolved in water. For 1 sachet of powder you need to take 1 glass of warm water.

The balm is used for rubbing and inhalation. For inhalation treatment, 1 teaspoon of the preparation is taken per procedure. The use of the ointment for any procedures is recommended 3-4 times a day.

Treatment with the drug is carried out for 5-7 days. If necessary, the therapeutic course can be extended.

Contraindications for use. Any form of the drug "Linkas" is not prescribed to patients who have hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Syrups with sugar, lozenges and powder are not recommended for patients with diabetes and people with impaired glucose metabolism.

The ointment should not be used on damaged skin or if local allergic reactions or irritation occur.

Caution should be exercised by patients with liver disease, kidney disease, potassium deficiency, heart disease, obesity, and those with increased blood viscosity.

Doctors do not recommend pregnant women to use Linkas, since herbs such as licorice can cause uterine contractions and premature birth. And during lactation, it is better to avoid such treatment, because the reaction of the child's body to the "healing" milk is unknown.

As for age restrictions, lozenges and powder solution are considered medicinal forms for adults, although tasty and aromatic "lollipops" are quite successfully given to children starting from the age of five. Ointment is allowed to be used in the treatment of children only starting from the age of 2, and syrups are quite suitable for combating bronchitis in six-month-old toddlers.

Side effects. Treatment with the drug rarely causes unpleasant symptoms. In most cases, everything is limited to mild allergic reactions, although in inhalations in isolated cases, Quincke's edema was diagnosed.

Increased blood pressure, decreased potassium levels and weakness while taking the drug are possible only when using lozenges, and even then the symptoms are possible in patients who already have problems with metabolism, heart or kidneys.

Storage conditions. It is best to store the medicine in a dark place with an air temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. In such conditions, safe treatment with it is possible for 3 years.

The taste of syrup and lozenges with different aromas is very attractive to children, so you need to make sure that young sweet tooths do not confuse medicine with safe sweets.

Doctor MOM

Another series of drugs effective for the treatment of cough and bronchitis. We are talking about syrup, lozenges with different flavors (orange, lemon, mint, fruit, pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, berries) and an ointment with the same name.

Pharmacodynamics. Let's start with the syrup. It contains many extracts of various medicinal herbs and spices: basil, licorice, turmeric, ginger, adhatoda, Indian nightshade, elecampane, cubeb pepper, terminalia belirica, aloe barbadensis.

We will not go into the mechanism of action of the herbs that were found in the composition of the above-described drugs. We will focus only on the "new products". So, turmeric is included in the composition of the drug as an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial component, ginger in addition to the anti-inflammatory effect also has an analgesic effect, Indian nightshade facilitates the removal of mucus from the bronchi and reduces temperature. The unusually aromatic cubeb pepper is famous for its anti-inflammatory and expectorant effect, terminalia belirica relieves swelling and promotes easier removal of phlegm, aloe is used as an anti-inflammatory component with a regenerating effect.

The lozenges contain extracts of licorice and ginger roots, as well as amla fruits, which have the ability to relieve inflammation, reduce fever and fight viruses, while strengthening the immune system.

The ointment contains thyme extract and a mixture of essential oils (eucalyptus, turpentine, camphor and nutmeg), which provide it with expectorant, anti-inflammatory, local irritant and antiseptic properties.

All forms of the drug also contain menthol, which is considered an effective antispasmodic and antiseptic.

Method of administration and dosage. The drug in the form of syrup is intended for the treatment of patients over 3 years old. Children under 6 years old are given the drug in a single dose of ½ teaspoon. Young patients from 6 to 14 years old should take ½-1 teaspoon at a time, and older patients - up to 2 teaspoons per dose.

The syrup can be taken undiluted after meals. The frequency of administration is 3 times a day with a therapeutic course duration of 1-1.5 weeks.

The lozenges are intended for adult patients only. They should be taken one at a time, dissolving in the mouth, at intervals of 2 hours. The maximum daily dose is 10 pcs. Treatment is carried out for two to three weeks.

The ointment, like the syrup, is approved for use from the age of 3. It is used 2-3 times a day for rubbing and applied to sore spots. For bronchitis, this is the chest and back.

Overdose is possible with oral administration if the recommended doses are not followed. It manifests itself in the form of edema, increased blood pressure, heart pain, and symptoms of hypokalemia.

Contraindications for use. The widely advertised drug actually has a decent list of restrictions on use. In addition to hypersensitivity to the drug, the following are prohibited: hypertension, liver and kidney disease, obstruction of the biliary tract, including cholelithiasis, or acute inflammation of the gallbladder, hemorrhoids and other intestinal diseases, grade 3 obesity, bronchial asthma, diabetes, croup. The drug is not prescribed for a tendency to spastic conditions and pain arising for an unspecified reason.

Treatment with lozenges is not carried out in case of hypersensitivity to the components. And the ointment is not used in case of allergic reactions to it, skin irritation, damage to the skin and skin diseases at the site of application, with convulsive readiness, bronchial asthma, whooping cough.

Any form of the drug is not prescribed to pregnant women and during breastfeeding.

Side effects. Taking the syrup may be accompanied by allergic reactions (rash, itching, Quincke's edema), increased blood pressure and heart pain, dyspeptic symptoms and abdominal pain, the appearance of edema, fainting, dry mouth mucous membranes,

When treating with lozenges and ointments, mostly allergic reactions are observed. Rubbing the chest can provoke cramps, headaches, and bronchospasms.

Interaction with other drugs. It is recommended to combine treatment with syrup very carefully with cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic drugs, diuretics, laxatives, steroids. Simultaneous use with anticoagulants increases the risk of bleeding.

Storage conditions. It is recommended to store the syrup at temperatures no higher than 30 degrees, other forms of release like cooler air (up to 25 degrees). The ointment and syrup retain their medicinal properties for no more than 3 years (an open bottle of syrup should be used within 4 weeks). Pastilles can be stored for up to 5 years.

Insti

A multi-component herbal preparation used for acute respiratory infections, bronchitis and other pathologies in which its composition has a healing effect. The preparation is produced in the form of a fine powder (granules), packaged in single-use sachets (soshe).

Pharmacodynamics. As with other multicomponent drugs, the action of the drug is due to the properties of the plant components included in it. We will not find any unfamiliar names in the composition of the drug. The powder is a dried thick extract of medicinal plants. What plants are included in the drug? These are willow, licorice, violet, adhatoda, dill (aka fennel), eucalyptus, valerian and leaves of natural Chinese tea.

It is due to this composition that the drug has a number of therapeutic effects: it relieves inflammation, reduces temperature, facilitates the removal of phlegm from the bronchi, fights bacteria and viruses. It also has diuretic and diaphoretic effects.

Method of administration and dosage. The medicine is used after meals in the form of a solution, pouring the powder from 1 packet into a glass of warm water and stirring it well. You need to drink 2-3 glasses of the solution per day. Treatment continues for a week. If longer treatment is necessary, a doctor's consultation is required.

Contraindications for use. The drug is not prescribed for hypersensitivity to the components and during pregnancy/lactation. It is intended for patients who have reached the age of majority.

Patients with severe heart, liver, kidney pathologies or increased blood viscosity will have to exercise caution. Patients with diabetes should take into account that the medicine contains sucrose.

During pregnancy, doctors do not recommend using the drug in the first 3 months. In the subsequent period, the drug is used very carefully with the permission of a doctor. It is better not to breastfeed during the treatment period.

Side effects of the drug are usually limited to allergic reactions to the components of the drug. Much less common are discomfort and pain in the stomach, bowel disorders, increased blood pressure, decreased potassium levels in the body, headaches, heart rhythm disturbances, weakness, drowsiness, and decreased performance.

Interaction with other drugs. The risk of hypokalemia increases with the simultaneous use of Insti solution and cardiac drugs, diuretics, laxatives, hormonal anti-inflammatory drugs.

High doses of the drug may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, showing high levels of estrogen in the blood under the influence of fennel.

But if the medicine is taken in parallel with alcohol, sedatives, sleeping pills, anxiolytics and antispasmodics, then an increase in their effect will be noted.

Antacids (reduce absorption) and antitussives (have the opposite effect and lead to congestion) can reduce the effect of the drug "Insti".

Storage conditions. The drug can be stored for 3 years at room temperatures, no more than 25 degrees.

Carmolis

A multi-component medicine based on menthol and a mixture of essential oils of various plants: Chinese cinnamon (cinnamon), cloves, lavender, sage, anise, thyme, citronella, lemon, nutmeg, cassia, mint. The drug contains alcohol. Its use is considered unsafe during pregnancy and lactation, alcoholism, epilepsy, brain diseases, including traumatic injuries, bronchospasms. In case of obstructive bronchitis, it is better to resort to treatment with other means.

The drug in the form of a solution is not used in pediatrics, but the lozenges are allowed to be given to children starting from the age of three. The lozenges contain sugar, which means they are not suitable for patients with diabetes. There is a version of the drug with honey, which is not suitable for patients with an allergic reaction to bee products.

Side effects. The instructions only inform about the possibility of allergic reactions to the components of the drug.

It has a noticeable sedative effect, which can negatively affect concentration and reaction speed. Therefore, it is better to avoid performing potentially dangerous work during treatment.

Features of the use of herbal preparations for bronchitis

When describing multi-component herbal preparations, we did not mention their pharmacodynamics. This is due to the fact that it is simply impossible to trace the kinetic characteristics of various plants in the composition of one medicine. And is it necessary? After all, we are not talking about chemical components, the long-term presence of which in the body can lead to all sorts of disruptions in its functioning.

Another positive property of herbal preparations is the possibility of using them as part of a complex treatment, since negative interactions are usually not observed. The only thing that doctors do not recommend is to use expectorant herbal remedies and strong antitussives at the same time.

Before rushing to the pharmacy for cough and bronchitis medications, you should still visit a doctor so that he can establish an accurate diagnosis and recommend the most effective remedy in each specific case. If the doctor insists on taking unnatural drugs, then there is a certain sense in this, and it is unlikely to be related to the need for financial assistance to pharmacies, because sometimes chemical drugs are even cheaper than their natural analogues. It's just that with bronchial asthma and a tendency to allergies, the choice of herbal remedies can be noticeably limited. And severe pathologies often require the prescription of potent drugs.

If we are talking about the allergic nature of bronchitis, expectorants should be taken in parallel with antihistamines, otherwise the treatment may be delayed and not have the desired lasting result. And in case of infectious bronchitis, which, however, does not happen so often, it is necessary to take antibiotics after determining the type of pathogen. Regardless of the type and form of bronchitis, for a quick recovery you need to take vitamins and immunomodulators.

In this article, we have described only a part of herbal preparations for bronchitis. In fact, on pharmacy shelves you can find many such effective and safe drugs, the number of which is growing every year, since the demand for them does not fade. After all, herbal remedies have much fewer side effects and their negative impact on the body is minimized. But in the end, everyone chooses who to trust: natural drugs or their synthetic analogues, which may have a stronger and faster effect.
