Rules for choosing syrup
- With mild cough, severe inflammation and frequent coughing, mucolytics are necessary. The medicine suppresses the activity of pathogenic microorganisms, removes irritation. It liquefies phlegm, prevents stagnation of mucus and facilitates its excretion.
- With a moist cough, medicines are used with a softening and enveloping action. They contribute to the restoration of the surface of the affected respiratory tract. Have expectorant and antiseptic properties, dilute sputum, accelerate its excretion from the body.

- Features of coughing attacks.
- General condition of the patient.
- Age of the patient.
Before choosing a syrup, it is necessary to determine the severity of the disease and choose the method of its treatment: relief of the disease state or excretion of sputum. The safest are herb preparations, which include Herbion syrup.
Herbion has several species that suppress dry non-productive cough and promote liquefaction of mucus, improving its expectoration. The combined natural composition provides a quick therapeutic effect.
Herbione is a primrose from a cough
Herbion with primrose is represented by a liquid extract from the rhizome of the primrose and a plant of thyme. Additionally there is levomenthol, a small amount of sucrose and methyl parahydroxybenzoate. The color of the syrup is brown.
Combined antitussive with plant components. The main active substance is the root extract of the primrose, which has a rich chemical composition: saponins, vitamin C, triterpene glycosides. The interaction of all substances provides antitussive effect, enhances bronchopulmonary secretion, dilutes and increases the volume of sputum, facilitating its excretion. Active components form a protective film on the airways, which significantly reduces the irritation of the cough receptors.
Also, the medicine contains thyme extract. This component has a local antiseptic effect, relaxes the musculature of the bronchi, reduces the risk of bronchospasm, reduces the viscosity of mucus. Thyme extract has analgesic, spasmolytic and diuretic action. Another component of the syrup is menthol. It facilitates breathing, has an anti-inflammatory effect on mucous membranes and increases the effectiveness of other active components.
- Indications for use: respiratory diseases with irritation of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, intrusive dry and spastic cough, difficult sputum discharge. Painful condition with tracheitis and bronchitis, irritation of the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract with tobacco smoke and other substances, senile cough.
- Dosing: The daily dosage depends on the age of the patient. For children 2-7 years, 1 scoop 3 times a day, 7-14 years 1-2 scoops, over 14 years, 2 spoons 3-4 times a day. The drug is taken orally, regardless of food, with a warm liquid.

- Herbion with Icelandic moss consists of a dense stretch of this plant. Additional ingredients are: sorbitol, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, lemon flavor and acid. The syrup has a brown tint and a specific flavor.
Herbion syrup composition
The main advantage of drugs from cough Herbion - a natural plant compound. To date, there is a series of antitussive syrups that contain various medicinal components.
- Syrup Icelandic moss
The dense aqueous extract of Icelandic moss consists of: polysaccharides (lichenin and isochinene), bitter lichen acids. It also includes auxiliary substances: sorbitol liquid, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, citric acid monohydrate and lemon flavor.
The interaction of all components provides antitussive, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and immunostimulating effects. The components of Icelandic moss have enveloping properties, create a protective film on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. Due to this, the cough reflex decreases and irritation of inflamed tissues descends.
- Primrose syrup
The medicament has a combined composition: water extract of the primrose and herbs of thyme, menthol. As additional components are: sucrose, propyl parahydroxybenzoate and methyl parahydroxybenzoate
The root of the primrose contains ascorbic acid, glycosides and saponins, which provide an antitussive effect and enhance bronchopulmonary secretion. Thyme extract consists of essential oils, one of which is thymol. This substance has a local antiseptic effect, reduces the viscosity of phlegm and the risk of bronchospasm. Menthol enhances the action of thymol, and also has anti-inflammatory properties, facilitates breathing.
- Ivy syrup
Contains an extract of ivy leaves, which consists of a complex of biologically active components. It includes saponins of the triterpene series and alpha-hederin. They reduce the viscosity of phlegm and stimulate its excretion from the body. The activity of the plant constituents is provided by mucolytic, bronchodilator and spasmolytic effect.
- Syrup with plantain
This medication has a combined composition: water extract of lawn-grass plantain, water extract of mallow flowers, vitamin C and auxiliary substances. Antitussive drug shows antibacterial and immunostimulating activity. The active ingredients irritate the receptors of the gastrointestinal mucosa, stimulating the secretion of the bronchial glands (gastropulmonal reflex). Due to this, sputum is diluted and its volume increases.
Pharmacodynamics
The leaf of the plantain and the color of the mallow have a mucus-enveloping effect, soothing the surface of the respiratory tract. Mucus, present in plants, eliminates cough caused by the irritating effect of the inflammatory response to respiratory tract tissue. The additional presence of Vitamin C in Herbion makes it possible to improve the response of the immune system and accelerate the restoration of tissues damaged by inflammation.
Ivy has a pronounced mucolytic effect, and also plays the role of spasmolytic and bronchodilator. The dry extract of the plant is represented by saponins of triterpenes (in particular, α-hederin and hederacoside). The drug promotes relaxation of the bronchial walls, facilitating expectoration and coughing.
Primrose and thyme contribute to the rapid separation of dense mucus secretion from the lumen of the bronchi. The rhizome of the plant primrose contains a large number of saponins, which are known to be expectorant (mucolytic) abilities. Saponins have a stimulating effect on the receptor mechanism of the vagus nerve, located on the gastric mucosa. This allows the Herbion drug to activate the so-called gastropulmonary reflex, due to which the formation of sputum is intensified and expectoration is potentiated. Saponins also exhibit surface activity, promoting the formation of a monomolecular coating. This allows substances to spread through the mucous tissues of the respiratory system, providing local dilution and excretory action.
Thyme has an antispasmodic and antiseptic effect, acts as a bronchodilator.
Icelandic moss is characterized by anti-shash, immunostimulating, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The basis of this effect is the presence in the plant of a large number of mucous substances in the form of polysaccharides (lichenin and isochenin) and bitter lichen acids. Thanks to such substances, the drug has an enveloping effect on the upper respiratory tract: a kind of protective barrier is formed, which protects the mucous tissues from irritation. As a result, the manifestation of cough reflex decreases, and dryness and irritation softens. In addition to the respiratory tract, the drug envelops the surface of the nasopharynx and oral cavity, providing local softening effect.
Pharmacokinetics
Herbion is a remedy that has a plant base. It is extremely difficult to trace the kinetic properties of such a drug, since it is impossible to accurately determine the most active natural substance that contributes to the elimination of dry or wet cough, as a rule, the effect of the drug as a whole is considered.
Some of the herbal components act locally, some fall into the total bloodstream, but there is no way to accurately trace the nuances of their absorption, distribution and metabolism.

Herbion from cough for children
Parents, of course, worried about the choice of medication to eliminate dry or wet cough in a young child. First of all, such medications should be as safe as possible, and not less effective. Does such a safe means belong to Herbion?
Herbion syrups have an important feature: they are all produced on the basis of plants that successfully cough, and do not harm a small body. Plantain, thyme, primrose, ivy and Icelandic moss are hypoallergenic plants that are often used in pediatric practice. Medicines with the listed components in the composition are not uncommon in pharmacy counters.
Of course, the plant origin of the medicine is not a reason to give it to the child without the doctor's appointment.
The medication instructions state that Herbion from dry and wet cough is allowed to offer for treatment of children from 2 years of age. However, in some cases, pediatricians allow the use of the drug and with a one-year age. This point needs to be clarified by a competent doctor - it is possible that such an exception to the rules will be carried out on an individual basis.
Herbion, the basis of which includes an extract from Icelandic moss, can be used for the therapy of one-year-old children. Such a point is clearly indicated in the annotation to the drug.
Use Herbion from a cough during pregnancy
At the initial stage of pregnancy, Gerbion is not used, regardless of what cough is observed in a woman - dry or wet. Due to the insufficient volume of studies conducted, there is currently no clear certainty that this drug is completely safe for the developing fetus.
During the second and third trimester, the intake of the medicinal syrup is possible, but only after a careful weighing of the benefits and potential danger to the pregnancy and intrauterine development of the baby. If such treatment is prescribed, then it should be carried out only under the supervision of the doctor. Herbion from a cough in this situation is taken in the lowest possible dosage.
If a woman feeds a baby with a breast, then it is better to refrain from taking the medication, since it contains potential allergens. It is proved that the active components of Herbion fall into the mother's milk and are capable of causing allergy in the baby. If treatment with the drug is inevitable, then the baby is transferred to an artificial mixture.
Contraindications
Herbion Syrup from a dry cough is not indicated for use with a damp cough, and vice versa. Before use, you must always read the summary of the drug and make sure that it is suitable for treatment.

Side effects Herbion from a cough
Against the background of the treatment of dry and moist cough Herbion syrups side effects are rare. In general, they are expressed as signs of an allergic reaction, less often - dyspeptic phenomena in the form of nausea, loose stools, heartburn, etc.
After the end of treatment, the side symptomatology is stopped on its own, without additional medication.
[7]
Overdose
Cases of overdose are not often noted, and they are associated mainly with the prolonged and uncontrolled reception of Herbion. With a dry or wet cough, an overdose is supplemented with the following symptoms:
- severe paroxysmal nausea;
- thin, loose stools;
- vomiting attacks;
- changes in blood sugar levels;
- violations of the liver;
- a rash on the body, itching.
To normalize the patient's condition, along with discontinuation of treatment, Herbion is prescribed symptomatic treatment.
Interactions with other drugs
- Herbion from a dry cough is not taken in conjunction with antitusschlevymi drugs and drugs that inhibit the formation of sputum discharge, because it creates problems with the further coughing of the liquefied secret.
- Herbionum from a damp cough is not combined with any antitaxel drugs that suppress the cough reflex.
There were no other drug interactions, however, when carrying out combined treatment of several diseases it is necessary to consult a doctor about the complex use of medications.
