Anise is one of many plants that have been used since ancient times to treat coughs and bronchitis, due to the ability of the herb to stimulate the discharge of sputum and relieve inflammation in the bronchial mucosa. Many of us were also treated with anise-based compositions in childhood, and we can use recipes to treat our children.

Dosing and administration

Anise oil and seeds of the plant are widely used to combat cough. The oil is effective for wet cough, while the seeds can be used for any type of cough.

The easiest way to buy anise oil is at a pharmacy. It should not be taken in its pure form, but with warm water, using no more than 3 drops per 1 tbsp. (those with high blood viscosity can take no more than 1 drop of oil per dose, dissolving it not in water, but in milk). It is best to carry out treatment with oil before meals. The frequency of administration is 3-4 times a day.

Treatment with seeds. Anise seeds, like oil, are sold in pharmacies, but this medicinal plant can also be grown in your own garden.

An infusion of seeds is prepared from 2 cups of boiling water and 1 tbsp. of plant seeds. The mixture is infused for at least 20 minutes, then filtered and taken as directed. For bronchitis, the infusion is drunk ½ cup 4 times a day. It is best to do this before meals, about 15 minutes before eating.

To prepare a decoction, take 1 teaspoon of seeds per 1 glass of water. Boil the mixture for 5-10 minutes, strain and drink 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day.

Anise compositions have a diaphoretic effect, which will have a positive effect on colds and bronchitis with fever. The course of treatment with anise should be short.

Anise is also used in inhalations for bronchitis in the form of essential oil of the plant. It is enough to add 2-3 drops of oil to the inhalation composition. If you do inhalations with a nebulizer, you need to remember that the oil is incompatible with saline solution, so it is better to use plain boiled water.

During pregnancy, anise-based medications can be taken with the permission of a doctor, but in the first 3 months it is better to avoid treatment with the herb.

It is better to give anise-based products to children from the age of 3 years.

Storage conditions

We are interested in harvesting the plant's seeds, and this is done when most of the fruits are ripe. It is not the seeds themselves that need to be collected, they are dried on the branches, which are then cut. When the stems are dry, previously laid out in a thin layer on paper or plywood, the seeds are removed from them and poured into a glass container or cardboard box for storage. The raw materials should be stored in a dry but cool place for no more than 3 years.
