Pharmacodynamics
It is believed that marshmallow is effective not only with a dry cough, because it has anti-inflammatory, enveloping and softening effect. But thanks to the ability to facilitate expectoration of sputum, its use is possible even with a strong moist cough with a meager and painful discharge of viscous mucus.
Dosing and administration
For the treatment of cough and bronchitis, it is customary to prepare medicines based on the root of the plant, its stems and flowers have much less effect.
Root extract: 1 spoon of the crushed raw material is poured with a glass of chilled water and left for half an hour. During this time, the composition is periodically shaken. With bronchitis, take a little bit of filtered in a warm form after each meal.
Root syrup: A syrup is prepared from water and sugar, the surface of which is covered with a thin layer of powder from the dried licorice root. After half an hour the mixture is stirred and heated on fire until uniform, without forgetting to stir it all the time. Take syrup 3-4 times a day. Single dose for adults - 1 tablespoon, for children - 1 tsp. The althaea syrup is very effective with a strong cough.
Infusion with honey: Boil half a liter of water, we cool it to a warm state and add 2 tablespoons. Crushed rootlets. Leave the composition for 6-7 hours, then strain and add to it 2 tablespoons of honey. For the treatment of dry cough, this infusion should be taken in half a cup 4 times a day.
For the treatment of influenza, bronchitis and pneumonia, you can also use the leaves of the plant, making infusion from them (1 st.l of boiling water take 1 tablespoon dry leaves). Insist the composition for about an hour, after which it must be filtered and taken on 50 g three to four times a day.
Side effects Althea
Side effects of the althea are often reduced to allergic reactions against the background of individual intolerance. If the medicine is taken for a long time, nausea and vomiting may occur.
Storage conditions
The time of harvesting the roots of the plant is early autumn. Large roots are ground and dried in natural conditions, in a dryer or a warm oven.
