Iodovital belongs to iodine preparations, which are used for thyroid disorders.

Pharmacodynamics
Iodovital contains inorganic iodine, which inhibits the production and synthesis of thyroid hormone, which helps to reduce the size of the thyroid gland, normalize the level of hormones.
Pharmacokinetics
Iodovital is absorbed in the small intestine. After taking the tablets, the active substance is distributed throughout the body within two hours, the maximum concentration is observed in the thyroid gland, and there is also a slight accumulation in the mammary, salivary glands. Iodovital penetrates well through the placental barrier.
Excretion from the body occurs mainly in the urine, a small amount is excreted in saliva, then.
Dosing and administration
Iodovital is taken (if the doctor has not prescribed a different dosage) depending on age: for adults and children, starting from the age of 12 - 100-200 μg per day, for children from the first days of life - 50-100 μg, for women in position and nursing mothers - 150-200 mcg.
The tablets should be taken after meals, children can dissolve the tablet in a drink.

Contraindications
Iodovital is contraindicated in dermatitis herpetiformis, nodular goiter, benign thyroid tumors, kidney stones and iodine intolerance.

Iodovital can provoke allergic reactions, heart palpitations, tremors, intense agitation, sleep disturbances, sweating, and upset stools.
Overdose
Iodovital, if taken in an increased dose, leads to darkening of the oral mucosa and the development of certain diseases (runny nose, bronchitis, edema of the vocal cords, bleeding from the urinary system, etc.). An overdose of the drug can be fatal.
Interactions with other drugs
Iodovital is an antithyroid drug, so other antithyroid drugs can enhance the therapeutic effect.
Tritergic hormone promotes the accumulation of iodine in the thyroid gland, potassium thiocyanate and perchlorate - reduce the level of iodine in the organ.
Potassium-containing diuretics, along with high doses of Iodovital, increase the level of potassium in the body and provoke an irregular heart rhythm.
ACE inhibitors increase the level of potassium in the body, drugs with lithium provoke the development of goiter and a decrease in the level of thyroid hormones.
Storage conditions
Iodovital should be stored in a whole, undamaged package (otherwise iodine will evaporate and the therapeutic effect will be reduced). The drug must be protected from moisture and children, at temperatures up to 30 ° C.
Shelf life
Iodovital is valid for 36 months from the date of manufacture.
