External preparation Desmistin refers to dermatological antiseptics, which is actively used to treat and prevent skin infections, including wound and burn surfaces. 

Desmistin is released in the pharmacy network without requiring a prescription.

Indications Desmistine

  • As a prevention of purulent infection in wounds.
  • For the treatment of traumatic inflammatory and suppurative reactions of the musculoskeletal system.
  • As a therapy and prevention of infection of obstetric trauma, inflammatory processes of the genital organs.
  • For the treatment of burn lesions of the second and third A of Art.
  • To prepare burn surfaces for plastic surgery.
  • As a therapy and prevention of infectious, purulent and fungal lesions of skin and mucous membranes.
  • As preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of sexual infections (syphilis, chlamydia, thrush, Trichomonas, etc.).
  • For the treatment of inflammatory processes of the urethra and prostate.

Release form

Desmistin is produced in the form of a solution for surface use and is a clear liquid, without a certain color and aroma. When shaken, it can foam.

 Desmistine includes:

  • the active ingredient - miramistin (10 ml of fluid contain 10 mg of the active ingredient);
  • an additional component is purified water.

 The drug is released in vials of polymer material, 100 ml of solution in one bottle.

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of the drug is known for its extensive bactericidal action, directed even against those microorganisms that do not react to most antibiotics.

 Desmistin has a detrimental effect on bacteria:

  • gram (+) - staphylococci and streptococci;
  • gram (-) - escherichia, klebsiella, pseudomonad, etc.;
  • aerobes and anaerobes (monocultures and bacterial strains);
  • fungal infection - ascomycetes, yeasts and yeast fungi, dermatophytes and other pathogenic fungi, including those resistant to the effects of antifungal agents;
  • viral infection - complex viruses (causative agent of herpes, immunodeficiency, etc.);
  • sexual infection - chlamydia, treponema, trichomonas, causative agents of gonorrhea, etc.

Desmistin serves as an excellent prophylaxis against infection of wound and burn surfaces, stimulates tissue repair. Increases local immunity by enhancing the activity and capabilities of the phagocytic system, activates the activity of macro-cells and macrophages. Refers to preparations that produce high osmotic pressure in the wounds, which eliminates the inflammatory process, exudative fluid (pus) from the wound, quickly forms a dry crust. Desmistin does not have a negative effect on granulation and healthy tissue, does not interfere with borderline epithelialization.

Does not cause allergies and does not irritate skin and mucous membranes.

Pharmacokinetics

Outside use Desmistin excludes the penetration of the drug through the skin and mucous membranes into the systemic circulation.

Dosing and administration

For disinfection of hands use up to 10 ml of liquid, applying it to clean and dry hands. The drug is distributed for at least 5 minutes in all skin of the hands.

As preventive and therapeutic measures, irrigation with 0.1% solution of desmistine wound and burn surfaces is used. Also, the solution can be used for the placement of tampons and lotions. Such procedures are carried out up to 3 times a day. Duration of treatment - 4-5 days.

With purulent and fungal infectious lesions infected with wound surfaces, cutaneous candidiasis, mycosis of feet and skin folds, the medication solution is used for washes and lotions.

For household minor injuries (cuts, incisions and scuffs), the skin site at the injury site is wiped with a solution of the drug or a tissue moistened in solution is applied. The procedures can be repeated up to 3 times a day for 4-5 days. 

Use Desmistine during pregnancy

Desmistin is permitted for use by pregnant women, since it does not have the ability to penetrate into the systemic circulation during external application, and, accordingly, can not have any effect on the development of the fetus or on the course of pregnancy.

Information on the effects of desmistin in breastfeeding is not provided, nor is there data on whether the drug penetrates into breast milk. Nevertheless, there were no negative reviews about the use of the external remedy by lactating women. 

Contraindications

Desmistin is a hypoallergenic drug, but the possibility of hypersensitivity to the active ingredient miramistin can not be ruled out.

With a tendency to an allergic reaction to miramistin, the drug is not prescribed. 

Side effects Desmistine

Side effects Desmistin happen very rarely. It is possible to have a sensation of a slight tingling or burning sensation, passing independently 20 seconds after the application of the solution. Such a condition is not an excuse to cancel Desmistin.

In rare cases, allergic reactions to medications may occur. Treatment is symptomatic.

Overdose

Cases of overdose with an external preparation of Desmistin are not fixed.

Interactions with other drugs

With the combined use of a solution of Desmistin with other antimicrobial and antifungal agents, their effectiveness is mutually reinforced.
