Muscles-rotators of the neck, chest and waist (mm. Rotatores cervicis, thoracis et lumborum) are located in the deepest layer of the musculature of the back, in the furrow between the spinous and transverse processes. These muscles are better expressed within the thoracic spine. Accordingly, the length of the bundles, they are divided into long and short. Long muscles-rotators start on the transverse processes and attach to the bases of the spinous processes of the overlying vertebrae, spreading over one vertebra. Short muscle rotators are located between adjacent vertebrae.

Function: rotate the spine around its longitudinal axis.

Innervation: posterior branches of lumbar, thoracic and cervical spinal nerves.

Blood supply: lumbar and posterior intercostal arteries, deep cervical artery.
