Vikalin is used for the treatment of ulcerative lesions in the gastrointestinal tract. The drug has a combined effect.

Basic bismuth nitrate, magnesium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate have astringent and antacid effects. Buckthorn bark has some laxative effect, kelin exhibits antispasmodic activity, and rutin has anti-inflammatory properties. [ 1 ]

Inside the stomach, the drug interacts with hydrochloric acid at high speed. The drug is also capable of changing the blood alkali reserves. [ 2 ]

Indications Vikalin

It is used to treat non-ulcer dyspepsia, hyperacid gastritis, GERD, ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract and ulcerative lesions caused by Helicobacter pylori.

Release form

The medicinal substance is released in the form of tablets - 10 pieces inside a blister pack.

Pharmacokinetics

The plant components of the medicine are absorbed inside the gastrointestinal tract. Excretion occurs with feces, as well as with urine (partially).

Dosing and administration

The tablets are taken orally. To obtain the required medicinal effect, they must be taken in crushed form, 0.5-1 hour after eating.

The drug should be used in the amount of 1-2 tablets, 3 times a day. The duration of treatment, taking into account the intensity of the manifestations of the disease and the patient's response to therapy, varies within 1-2 months. If necessary, the doctor can prescribe a repeat course of treatment, but only after 1 month has passed since the completion of the previous cycle.

Use Vikalin during pregnancy

The medication should not be prescribed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, since there is no reliable information regarding its safety when used during these periods.

If it is necessary to take Vikalin during lactation, the woman should stop breastfeeding during treatment.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to medicinal components;
  • severe renal dysfunction;
  • hypoacid gastritis;
  • active form of fever;
  • the presence of a predisposition to bleeding in the digestive organs.

In the period of 30 minutes before and after taking the tablets, you should refrain from eating, drinking milk and other drinks, because this weakens the therapeutic effect of the drug.

When using the drug in people with renal dysfunction, blood magnesium levels may increase, stool may become dark green or black, and pigmentation of the tongue may develop.

Side effects Vikalin

Taking the medication only occasionally causes side effects. If it is prescribed to people with hypersensitivity, allergy symptoms and stool disorders may occur.

Overdose

Using the medicine in excessively large doses may cause bowel disorders, nausea and vomiting.

To stabilize the condition, it is necessary to perform gastric lavage and take activated carbon. In case of severe manifestations of intoxication, symptomatic procedures are carried out.

Interactions with other drugs

The use of the drug together with coumarin derivatives causes a weakening of the absorption of the latter.

During treatment with Vikalin, you should not take other medications that contain bismuth to prevent poisoning with this element.

The drug can weaken the resorptive activity of tetracyclines, since it forms complexes that have poor absorption.

Storage conditions

Vikalin should be stored in dark and dry places at standard drug temperatures.

Shelf life

Vikalin can be used for a period of 5 years from the date of manufacture of the medicinal substance.

Analogues

The analogues of the drug are Gastrotsepin, Vikair with Gastro-norm, Canalgat and Ampilop, and in addition to this, Gastrotipin, Venter with De-nol, Sucralfate and Gaviscon with Vis-nol.
