Vikasol is a water-soluble analogue of K-vitamin, which is obtained synthetically.

Menadione bisulfite Na is a participant in the formation of prothrombin and helps to improve blood clotting. In the case of a lack of K-vitamin inside the body, hemorrhagic symptoms appear. [1]

After the i / m injection, the therapeutic effect of the drug begins after 8 hours. This is due to the natural processes of the body, because it is not able to absorb the K-vitamin faster. [2]

Indications Vikasol

It is used in the following cases:

  • jaundice , which develops due to a deterioration in the process of outflow of bile;
  • active forms of hepatitis;
  • bleeding of the capillary or parenchymal type;
  • the period of preparation for the operation (to prevent bleeding);
  • radiation sickness ;
  • bleeding due to ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • hemorrhagic disease of the newborn;
  • bleeding that occurs with pulmonary tuberculosis or septic pathologies;
  • purpura of the thrombopenic type;
  • systematic nose and hemorrhoidal bleeding;
  • prolonged premenopausal, uterine or juvenile bleeding;
  • when using anticoagulants.

It is also prescribed for women in labor - to prevent bleeding.

Release form

The release of the drug is made in the form of a liquid for intramuscular injections (inside ampoules with a volume of 1 ml), as well as in the form of tablets taken orally with a volume of 0.015 g.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug increases blood clotting, potentiating the processes of stabilization of proconvertin and binding of the 2nd, 7th, 9th and 10th hemocoagulation factors inside the liver. [3]

Pharmacokinetics

Inside the blood plasma, the drug is in synthesis with different protein fractions. Most of the drug accumulates inside the liver, muscles of the heart and spleen (more than 60% of the substance is inside the mitochondrial fraction and only 15% is inside the supernatant).

All natural and artificial K-vitamin variants are transformed inside the body into K2-vitamin (2-methyl-3-farnesylgeranyl). These transformations are most intense inside the muscles of the skeleton and myocardium; inside the kidneys - weaker.

The metabolic components of K-vitamin (phosphate with mono sulfate, as well as diglucuronide-2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone) are excreted in the urine (about 70% of the applied portion).

Dosing and administration

You can use the medicine only with the doctor's prescription.

An adult should take orally 0.015 or 0.03 g of the substance per day; i / m injections are made in a dosage of 0.01 or 0.015 g. The size of the maximum 1-fold portion is 0.03 g, daily - 0.06 g. Day - 0.03 g.

Infants under 1 year of age are prescribed 0.002 or 0.005 g of the drug; a child under 3 years old - 0.006 g. For children 3-4 years old, the dosage is 0.008 g; 5-9 years old - 0.01 g; adolescents 10-14 years old are administered 0.015 g of drugs per day.

The daily portion can be divided into 2-3 administrations. The therapy lasts 3-4 days. If necessary, the course can be repeated after a 4-day interval.

Before performing the operation, Vikasol should be used for a period of 2-3 days.

Before giving birth, a woman in labor should take a 1-time daily dosage of the drug. But if labor has not begun, the drug is re-administered after 12, and then 24 hours.

Use Vikasol during pregnancy

Menadione bisulfite Na can only be used in the 3rd trimester to prevent bleeding during childbirth.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to prescribe for thromboembolism or increased blood clotting.

The drug is ineffective in the treatment of Werlhof disease and hemophilia.

Side effects Vikasol

Occasionally, the development of type K hypervitaminosis is noted, the symptoms of which are hyperthrombinemia, prothrombinemia, and bilirubinemia. Children may occasionally experience acute intoxication, in which convulsions develop.

Overdose

Poisoning with a drug can potentiate the severity of side effects.

Interactions with other drugs

The drug weakens the therapeutic effect of anticoagulants, which is why such a combination is prohibited to use (it does not affect only the anticoagulant properties of heparin).

When combining Vikasol with antibiotics, it is required to increase the amount of the substance taken.

Storage conditions

Vikasol must be stored in dark places at a temperature standard for medicines.

Shelf life

Vicasol can be used for a 36-month term from the date of manufacture of the drug.
