The phytotherapeutic agent Urological collection is presented in pharmacies in several varieties, their names are: Urological (diuretic) collection (ATC code C03 - diuretics), Phytonefrol collection (ATC code G04 - drugs used in urology), as well as the urological collection Species urologicae Leros from a Czech manufacturer (ATC code G04).
Indications urologic collection
Indications for the use of the drug Urological (diuretic) collection and the collection Fitonefrol include inflammation of the bladder and urethra, inflammatory processes in the kidneys (nephritis) and renal pelvis (pyelonephritis), urolithiasis and exacerbation of chronic prostatitis.
The urological collection Species urologicae Leros is a herbal anti-inflammatory and diuretic remedy for the complex treatment of mainly cystitis and urethritis.
Release form
The release form of the Urological (diuretic) collection is a crushed mixture of medicinal plants (in a pack); the collections Fitonefrol and Species urologicae Leros are released in filter bags containing powder from dry plant materials (20 bags in each package of the drug). Both release forms are intended for the preparation of an aqueous infusion.
Pharmacodynamics
When characterizing the complex pharmacological activity of herbal preparations, their pharmacodynamics are described based on the therapeutic effects of individual plants and the biochemical properties of the substances they contain. At the same time, the pharmacokinetics of herbal preparations are not studied, so this information is not included in the instructions.
The mechanism of the therapeutic effect - diuretic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic - of the Urological (diuretic) collection, as well as the identical in composition Fitonefrol, is based on the combined effect of:
- diuretic properties of flavonoids, antimicrobial properties of phenolic acids and arbutin glycoside, astringent properties of pyrogallic derivatives contained in bearberry leaves;
- anti-inflammatory effect of essential oils of calendula flowers;
- antiseptic and antispasmodic properties of peppermint menthol;
- anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of the flavonoid kaempferol, found in the fruits (seeds) of dill;
- the general tonic effect of phenolic glycosides, which are contained in the root and rhizomes of Eleutherococcus.
The urological collection Species urologicae (Leros) – in addition to bearberry leaves – contains birch leaves; knotweed, nettle and yarrow grass; parsley and field horsetail roots, as well as black elder flowers. The pharmacodynamics of this herbal collection is due to the biologically active substances of these medicinal plants:
- phenolic acids, triterpene compounds and coumarins of birch leaves;
- flavonoid glycosides, anthraquinones and tannins of knotweed herb (bird's knotweed);
- aromatic ether myristicin of parsley root;
- flavonoid ononin from the roots of the common horsetail;
- coumarins and anthocyanins of stinging nettle herb;
- monoterpenoids and the flavonoid apigenin of yarrow herb;
- flavonoids and triterpenoids of black elderberry flowers.
Dosing and administration
The method of using these urological collections is internal, for which a water infusion is prepared from crushed dry raw materials (per glass of boiling water - a heaped tablespoon, insist under a lid or in a thermos for about an hour). And packaged products are used to prepare an infusion (one bag is poured with a glass of boiling water and insisted for about a quarter of an hour).
Standard doses indicated in the instructions are: infusion of crushed herbs - 80-100 ml three times a day (before meals); infusion from filter bags - half a glass twice or three times during the day.
The duration of continuous intake should not exceed two weeks.
Contraindications
Standard contraindications for the use of any urological collection are hypersensitivity to the active ingredients, age under 12-14 years, hypokalemia, and decompensated liver cirrhosis.
The Leros collection has the following contraindications for use: the presence of edema associated with heart and/or kidney failure; inflammatory diseases of the kidneys, gall bladder and bile ducts; gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
There is a contraindication and even a complete ban on the use of any diuretic drugs, including herbal preparations, during pregnancy (at any stage), as well as during lactation.
First of all, this is due to the risk of disruption of the water-salt and electrolyte balance due to the removal of K + from the body, which is unacceptable for the normal course of pregnancy. In addition, both dill seed and parsley root contain myristicin ether, which exhibits anticholinergic properties, that is, it can cause nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, dizziness and anxiety. And knotweed, despite all its medicinal properties, helps to increase the tone of the uterus. Nettle grass has the same disadvantage.
Side effects urologic collection
The side effects of these diuretic mixtures are also caused by the active substances of medicinal plants. In particular: bearberry can irritate the kidneys, and in the presence of inflammation of this organ - aggravate them.
Increased diuresis has a side effect in the form of a decrease in the level of potassium in the blood and intercellular fluids, which is fraught with muscle weakness, cramps and tremors, an increase in heart rate (HR), a drop in blood pressure, etc. The yarrow in the urological collection Leros also reduces blood pressure. And the yarrow in this product can cause allergies.
Bird's knotweed and parsley (due to the above-mentioned myristicin) stimulate contraction of the muscle tissue of the small and large intestines, the walls of the bladder and uterus.
The side effects of the Leros herbal mixture threaten those who have an elevated level of platelets in the blood and have varicose veins or thrombophlebitis, since stinging nettle (containing vitamin K) and yarrow (containing vitamin K and the alkaloid achilleine) contribute to increased blood clotting.
