The drug Unasin belongs to the combination drugs of the penicillin group.

The medicine Unazin is sold in pharmacies without a mandatory prescription.

Indications Unazin

Unazin is prescribed as a drug for antibiotic therapy for the following diseases:

  • for inflammation of the nasal sinuses;
  • for otitis media;
  • with pharyngolaryngitis;
  • for inflammatory processes in the urinary system;
  • for infectious diseases of internal organs;
  • for dermatitis, arthritis, myelitis;
  • in sepsis;
  • in case of pneumonia;
  • with pyelonephritis;
  • to prevent postoperative infectious complications.

Release form

Unazin is produced in the form of a powder substance for the preparation of an injection solution:

  • 0.75 g per bottle;
  • 1.5 g per bottle;
  • 3 g per bottle.

The composition of Unazin is represented by the following components: sodium sulbactam and sodium ampicillin.
Each bottle is packed in a protective cardboard box indicating the name of the drug.
In addition, Unazin is available in tablet form: 375 mg tablets have an enteric coating. The cardboard box contains two blisters of 6 tablets.

Pharmacodynamics

Unasin has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The active ingredient Sulbactam inhibits microbial β-lactamases, which enhances the antimicrobial effect of ampicillin.

Ampicillin is a penicillin and is active against gram (-) and gram (+) bacteria. The antibiotic disrupts the production of substances that form the basis of the bacterial cell membrane. As a result, the growth and vital activity of microbes is disrupted.

The following bacteria are sensitive to the action of the drug: staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci, neicheria, moraxella, bacteroides, etc.

Pharmacokinetics

Before prescribing Unazin, the doctor must necessarily conduct a diagnosis of the sensitivity of bacteria to this drug.
The main ingredients of the drug are quickly and fully absorbed by the tissues and biological environments of the body.
The half-life can be 1 hour. In the elderly and small children, this period of time can last longer.
After a single dose injection, about 80% of the main ingredients will be eliminated from the body within eight hours.

Dosing and administration

Unazin powder is used to prepare an injection solution. The drug is administered at regular intervals, according to the schedule prescribed by the doctor.
To properly prepare the medicine, Unazin powder must be dissolved in a suitable liquid in the proportion of 1.6 ml of solvent (for example, lidocaine or water for injection) plus 0.75 g of dry drug. After mixing, you need to wait a little and make sure that the liquid remains transparent and the suspension has dissolved. Only in this case can the drug be administered.
Unazin is administered intramuscularly slowly, or intravenously by jet stream. When preparing the drug for intravenous administration, 10 to 100 ml of solvent is used.
The duration of antibiotic therapy is determined by the doctor.
The daily dosage of Unazin for an adult patient can be 1.5-12 g. The proposed amount should be divided into several injections with time intervals of 7-8 hours.
Newborns and infants are prescribed the drug in the amount of 75-150 mg per kg of the child's weight. The interval between injections for children is 12 hours.
If the child's weight is more than 40 kg, then it is permissible to use the adult dosage.
For preventive purposes (during operations), Unasin is used in an amount of 1.5 to 3 g with anesthesia. If necessary, a second injection is carried out after 7-8 hours.
If the kidneys are not functioning properly, it is necessary to lengthen the intervals between injections.
The drug should not be administered to patients during dialysis: it is necessary to wait until the end of the procedure.
The course of therapy can vary from 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the doctor's recommendations. Treatment is continued for another 2-3 days after the test results have normalized.

Unazin tablets are taken as follows:

  • Adult patients – from 375 to 750 mg twice a day;
  • children – from 25 to 50 mg per kg of weight per day, divided into two doses.

To treat gonorrhea without complications, take 2.25 g of the drug at a time.
