Ultop is a drug that inhibits secretory actions for the release of gastric juice. This drug does not affect histamine receptors and does not have an active effect on the nervous system. The active substance in this drug is omeprazole. Due to the fact that this connection is formed, activity decreases, and accordingly, increased secretion of gastric juice is inhibited.

  • The pills, which contain forty mg of the drug, are a hard gelatin shell, the body is colored pink-brown. The cap is light pink.
  • Pills containing ten and forty mg contain white and yellowish or pinkish pellets inside.
  • Pills containing twenty mg are white pellets.

Pharmacodynamics

Pharmacodynamics - this is a drug belonging to a group that suppresses active secretion of gastric juice, but does not have an anticholinergic effect. Omeprazole has a suppressive effect on the activity of the proton pump. The drug reduces the amount of stimulated secretion. The effect of omeprazole depends on the amount and frequency of the dose taken. The proton pump begins to reduce its activity within sixty minutes and the achievement of the maximum therapeutic activity of omeprazole occurs in two hours. After a single dose, the effect lasts for six days. In case of repeated administration, the effect increases during the first four days, and then a constant level of action occurs. After the end of the course, acid secretion returns to normal in three days. The bioavailability of the drug, in case of a single dose, reaches forty percent and increases further.

Pharmacokinetics

After the drug has been taken orally, it is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood plasma, the action of the pharmacokinetics of the drug occurs within one hour. The drug undergoes quite active metabolism processes in the liver. The drug is excreted through urine - seventy-five percent, the remaining twenty-five - through bile and feces.

In case of kidney disease, the excretion of metabolites may decrease; the same processes are possible in elderly people.

Dosing and administration

Ultop is used internally, orally, and must be washed down with plenty of water.

For gastric ulcers, the usual dose is twenty mg twice a day. The course lasts from two to six weeks.

For ulcerative lesions of the duodenum - one capsule twice a day for four weeks.

For gastroesophageal reflux disease - one capsule twice a day, the course lasts up to eight weeks.

For maintenance therapy – one capsule once a day for a year.

For chronic gastritis, when an increased level of acid is formed in the stomach, the method of application and dosage are calculated for a three-week course - one capsule of twenty mg twice a day.

Use Ultop during pregnancy

There are currently no clinical studies that prove the neutral effect of the drug on the fetus during pregnancy. However, the drug can be used to treat pregnant women under strict supervision of the attending physician together with the gynecologist - after all possible risks and consequences of use during pregnancy have been assessed.

During lactation, it is necessary to stop breastfeeding until complete recovery.

Contraindications

Contraindications for use apply to the following groups of patients:

  • Patients under eighteen years of age;
  • Pregnant women and women who are lactating or breastfeeding;
  • Have a hereditary form of fructose intolerance;
  • There is a syndrome of glucose-galactose indigestion;
  • There is a deficiency of sucrose in the body;
  • An increased reaction to one or more components of the drug is possible.

Side effects Ultop

When taking the drug, the following side effects may occur:

  • Central nervous system – prolonged headaches and dizziness, attacks of aggression, apathy or nervousness, some excitement, possible drowsiness, insomnia.
  • Vessels – angina pectoris, various edemas, changes in blood pressure.
  • Urogenital system – various urinary tract infections.
  • Muscle weakness and bone pain, in rare cases - cramps.
  • Leukocytosis and thrombocytopenia may develop in the blood.
  • Itching, rashes, and, in extreme and rare cases, hair loss may occur on the skin.
  • Cough reflex, sore throat, nosebleed.
  • Various hearing or vision impairments
  • Hypoglycemia.

Overdose

When taking this medicine during the day in the amount of 360 milligrams - overdose is not observed. If the permissible dose is exceeded, there may be an increase in drowsiness, dizziness or headaches, abdominal pain, dry mouth, impaired coordination, blurred vision, increased sweating. In rare cases, shortness of breath or hypothermia occurs.

When treating the consequences of an overdose of Ultop, it is necessary to engage in therapy to eliminate the symptoms. But remember that hemodialysis will not be able to cleanse the body.

Interactions with other drugs

When taken together with caffeine, diclofenac, metoprolol, theophylline, ethanol, lidocaine, estradiol, no changes in the blood were detected. When taken together with antacids and Ultop, the active components also do not interact with each other. A decrease in the absorption of ampicillin or iron salts is possible.

Clarithromycin enhances the absorption of Ultop into the blood.

Storage conditions
