Ukrliv is a medicine used in cases where it is necessary to dissolve X-ray negative cholesterol gallstones. Provided that these stones do not exceed fifteen millimeters in diameter. Suitable for use by those who have problems with the functioning of the gallbladder.

This medication is also used for liver disease and the entire biliary tract. Ukrliv belongs to a pharmacological group of drugs that are used in cases of biliary pathology.

Indications Ukrliv

Indications for the use of Ukrliv apply to a group of patients who have problems with the removal and dissolution of stones in the gallbladder. Ukrliv dissolves cholesterol stones in the gallbladder, and also prevents the appearance and deposition of new stones. Indications for the use of Ukrliv are also appropriate for diseases caused by bile stasis in the liver and gallbladder.

Ukrliv is used in the complex treatment of primary liver cirrhosis.

Release form

The medicinal drug Ukrliv is available in the form of tablets and suspension.

Ukrliv tablets are available in pharmacies in blisters of ten pieces. Each pack may contain thirty or one hundred tablets. Each tablet contains 250 milligrams of the drug and is white. The suspension is available in 200 ml bottles. The medicinal liquid is white.

Suspension

As a liquid suspension, Ukrliv is provided as a viscous liquid of white color and has a lemon aroma. It is released in a plastic jar containing two hundred milliliters of the medicinal drug. Also, each bottle comes with a measuring spoon for comfortable measuring of the drug taken. The taste of the drug at first has a sweet taste, after swallowing it leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Suspension for newborns

If a newborn baby develops neonatal jaundice (popularly known as "jaundice"), the pediatrician may prescribe treatment with Ukrliv. In this case, it is necessary to start from your child's body weight.

Children weighing about five kilograms should take a suspension in a volume of 1.25 milliliters per day. A measuring spoon will not help you in this case. To take the medicine, you need to draw the liquid into a syringe, this way it will be easier to control the dose of the medicine.

The course of treatment for infants rarely lasts several weeks, so be prepared for the bottle of medication to remain barely started.

It is not recommended to use Ukrliv in tablet form for the treatment of jaundice in infants - this way you will not be able to calculate the required dose of the medication and will complicate the administration of the medication.

Pills

Ukrliv tablets are another form of this medication. The dosage form for release is plates numbered thirty and one hundred (indicate how many units of the medicinal drug are contained in the package). The package also contains instructions for use.

Syrup

Ukrliv syrup is a drug for oral use. It is a liquid suspension with a light lemon aroma. At first it has a light and sweetish taste, after swallowing the medicine, a strong bitterness is felt in the mouth.

Ukrliv syrup is sold in wide-necked plastic bottles. Each package contains a measuring spoon and instructions for use.

Pharmacodynamics

Human bile usually contains a small percentage of ursodeoxycholic acid during normal life processes. But after oral administration of this acid, the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine of the gastrointestinal tract slows down, and then the secretion of cholesterol into bile decreases. It is due to these processes of cholesterol dissolution, the subsequent creation of liquid crystalline formations, that the processes of dissolution of gallstones occur.

In the modern view of pharmacists, ursodeoxycholic acid, when painful processes in the liver occur, causes the effect of replacing lipophilic acids with hydrophilic ones, which are non-toxic.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug Ukrliv is used orally and begins to act when absorbed into the small intestine. The drug's effect also extends to the upper ileum in the process of active transfer. The drug is absorbed almost completely - up to eighty percent of the dose taken. After the absorption processes have occurred, the bile acid passes through hepatic conjugation with the following amino acids - glycine and taurine. After this, the acid interacts with bile. The degree of passage through the liver exceeds sixty percent.

Intestinal bacteria degrade some of the lithocholic acid.

The half-life of the acid occurs after three, maximum eight days.

Dosing and administration

One of the advantages of this medicine is the absence of age restrictions. The dose of the medicine is calculated only based on the patient's weight. If the total weight is less than forty-seven kilograms, and there are also difficulties with swallowing tablets, it is necessary to take the Ukrliv suspension.

The daily dose is calculated as follows: ten grams of medicine are needed per kilogram of weight.

  • Up to 60 kg – two tablets
  • Up to 80 kg – three tablets
  • Up to one hundred kg – four tablets
  • From one hundred kg – five tablets

The medicine should be taken once a day, taking all the tablets one by one and washing each one down with plenty of liquid. Only in the first three months of the course can the drug intake be divided into several times a day - one tablet at a time. It is recommended to take Ukrliv in the evening, before going to bed. It is not recommended to interrupt the course of treatment - regular intake of the medicine into the body is necessary.

The course can last from six months to two years - this is the period during which the gallstones completely disintegrate. The success of the treatment is checked using X-rays and/or ultrasound.

Use Ukrliv during pregnancy

Women, before starting to take the medication, must completely exclude the possibility of becoming pregnant - the first trimester the fetus is especially susceptible to any medications. The use of Ukrliv during pregnancy can lead to irreversible consequences in the development of the fetus, and therefore its use is strictly prohibited. The decision to prescribe the medication is made only by the attending physician and only in the case when there is a serious threat to the health and life of the mother.

For women who are in the lactation period and breastfeeding, it is not recommended to use the drug Ukrliv, since at the moment there are no published studies on the neutral transfer of the drug through breast milk. Simultaneous administration of the drug during breastfeeding will have a negative effect on the baby - since his healthy body may not cope with the metabolites of the drug.

Contraindications

If the patient has sensitivity or hypersensitivity to the components of the drug that are part of the drug Ukrliv, taking it is prohibited. Also, contraindications to the use of Ukrliv apply to those who have inflammation of the gallbladder or inflammation of one of the bile ducts.

In case of blockage of the bile duct, taking the medication is also prohibited. The prohibition applies to cases where the gallbladder is not visualized by X-ray. If the full functioning of the gallbladder is disrupted and if periodic unpleasant sensations in the gallbladder area occur, it is necessary to stop taking the drug Ukriliv.

In case of exacerbation of liver cirrhosis, the use of Ukrliv is contraindicated.

Side effects Ukrliv

Clinical studies have shown the possible occurrence of the following side effects:

  • Disturbances in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract (diarrhea that does not stop during treatment with the drug);
  • Local pain under the ribs on the right side;
  • Possible disturbances in the functioning of the liver and gallbladder;
  • Gallstones can calcify;
  • If there is therapy for advanced stage liver cirrhosis, in rare cases decompensation of liver cirrhosis is possible, which may partially regress after treatment has been stopped;

Overdose

In clinical studies, overdose cases did not result in serious side effects. In some cases, diarrhea may occur – regular monitoring of liver function may be necessary. Gradually reducing the dose of Ukrliv may help. If the side effect does not subside, it is necessary to completely stop taking the drug.

Overdose that results in diarrhea is treated symptomatically. Fluid balance must be maintained.

Ion exchange resin can help you bind bile acid in your intestines. Consult your physician before taking it to determine whether there are any contraindications in your particular case.

Interactions with other drugs

When combining Ukrliv with any other drugs, it is necessary to check the compatibility of the components of each drug. Since cholestyramine, various anacids, smectites can bind to bile acid and suppress ursodeoxycholic acid. If it is impossible to avoid using these drugs, separate their intake by a time interval of at least two hours.

When ursodeoxycholic acid and cyclosporine are taken simultaneously, the level of the latter may increase.

Avoid taking medications that increase cholesterol excretion – estrogen hormones, oral contraceptives, clofibrate.

A negative interaction with ciprofloxacin is observed – its level decreases.

Storage conditions

Storage conditions for Ukrliv include a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and other light sources. The temperature at which the drug is stored should not exceed room temperature (25 °C). If you have not used the suspension, carefully monitor the tightness of the packaging, since an open drug, when interacting with air, sharply reduces the shelf life.

The location you choose for storage should be securely protected from children and pets.

Also, mothers who treated their babies' jaundice with Ukrliv leave positive reviews. This drug helps to cure the baby's body of unpleasant symptoms in a short period of several days. What may put you off is that during the course of treatment the baby uses a maximum of thirty milliliters of the drug, and the remainder of the suspension will quickly become unusable.

Among doctors, reviews of Ukrliv are mostly positive - as it is one of the few drugs that gives a significant positive effect on the body during the first weeks.
