Silibor has a hepatoprotective and antioxidant effect; at the same time, it stimulates protein binding and stabilizes phospholipid metabolism.

The hepatoprotective effect develops due to the membrane-stabilizing and antioxidant effects of the drug. Metabolism within hepatocytes improves with stabilization of phospholipid metabolic processes and stimulation of the binding of functional and structural proteins, RNA and glycogen. [ 1 ]

Due to protection against the passage of hepatotoxic elements into hepatocytes, the rate of liver recovery increases.

Indications Silibor

It is used for the following disorders:

  • chronic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis of various origins (combination treatment);
  • steatohepatosis;
  • prevention of the possibility of negative external influence of hepatotoxic components or medications used for a long time that impair liver function.

Release form

The release is made in tablets, inside cell plates - 10 (3 or 8 plates inside a box) or 25 pieces (1 plate inside a pack).

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of the substance from the gastrointestinal tract occurs at a low rate; the absorption half-life is approximately 130 minutes.

Metabolic processes occur inside the liver, via conjugation. About 40% of silymarin secreted with bile moves inside the portal-biliary circulation of bile acids.

Excretion is mainly realized with bile - in the form of glucuronides with sulfates; the remainder is excreted with urine. It does not accumulate inside tissues and the body. The half-life of the drug is about 6 hours.

Dosing and administration

Silibor is taken before meals; the tablets do not need to be chewed – they are swallowed with plain water.

Adolescents over 12 years of age and adults require 0.21 g of the drug 3 times a day.

For people with severe illnesses, the daily dose can be increased to 0.42 g in 3 doses if necessary.

The age group 6-9 years should take 70 mg of the drug once a day, and persons aged 9-12 years should take 0.14 g in 2 doses.

The therapy often lasts for about 1 month, but sometimes the attending physician may extend it to 3 months. The treatment course may be repeated after 1-2 months.

As a preventive substance, Silibor is prescribed in a 70 mg dose, 1-2 times a day. The duration of such a cycle is no more than 1 month.

  • Application for children

Should not be administered to persons under 6 years of age.

Use Silibor during pregnancy

Silibor can be taken only in situations where the benefit to the woman is more likely than the negative impact on the fetus. Therapy in this case should be carried out under medical supervision, because potentiation of diuresis may be observed, due to the fact that flavonoids have a weak diuretic effect.

Contraindications

Contraindicated for use by people with intolerance to the active and additional components of the drug.

Side effects Silibor

Main side effects:

  • dyspeptic disorders: diarrhea;
  • potentiation of diuresis;
  • allergy symptoms: itching and epidermal rash;
  • dizziness (often observed with prolonged therapy).

If any of the above negative symptoms develop, you should consult your doctor regarding changing the dosage or completely discontinuing the medication.

Overdose

There have been no reported cases of drug overdose so far.

If disorders develop, vomiting should first be induced, and then activated carbon should be taken. Then, if necessary, symptomatic actions are performed.

Storage conditions

Silibor must be stored in a place closed to children, moisture and sunlight. Temperature indicators are in the range of 8-25˚C.

Shelf life

Silibor can be used for a period of 2 years from the date of manufacture of the pharmaceutical product.

Analogues

The analogs of the drug are the substances Silibinin and Silimar with Rosilimarin.

Reviews

Silibor is usually recommended in reviews on medical forums as a powerful hepatoprotective substance during the use of strong antibiotics, and in addition to this for the treatment of biliary dyskinesia.
