Radicold

Radicold is a medical drug from the pharmacotherapeutic group of analgesics and antipyretics. Let's consider the main indications for its use, possible side effects, dosage and other features.

Indications Radicold

Indications for use are entirely based on the action of its active components. The drug is used for symptomatic treatment of acute inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract. The drug helps in the treatment of rhinopathies of allergic origin, that is, hay fever and allergic rhinitis. One tablet of Radicold is a combination of such components as paracetamol, phenylpropanolamine and chlorpheniramine maleate.

• Paracetamol – has an antipyretic effect. This effect is due to the effect on the hypothalamus, since it contains the thermoregulation center. The substance increases heat dissipation due to vasodilation and increased sweating. The analgesic effect occurs due to the analgesic effect and inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. The analgesic effect is noted 20 minutes after oral administration.
• Chlorpheniramine maleate - reduces the manifestations of swelling of the mucous membrane of the nose and paranasal sinuses, signs of conjunctivitis, bronchospasms and suppresses cough. The active substance weakens the transmission of nerve impulses, due to which an antitussive effect appears. The effect of the component lasts for 2-6 hours after application.
• Phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride is used for the symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion. The substance has an adrenomimetic effect on the endothelium of the vessels of the nasal mucosa. This effect eliminates congestion. It is because of this component that elderly patients should take the drug with particular caution, since the substance affects the central nervous system and has a vasoconstrictive effect.

The medicine is intended for the treatment of colds and flu symptoms from the first days of illness. Its peculiarity is that it contains specially selected active components that effectively and quickly eliminate the ailment.

Release form

Release form Radicold - light yellow tablets with a score line and chamfer. The pharmaceutical product is released in packages of 10 blisters, each containing 10 Radicold tablets.

Each tablet contains: 500 mg paracetamol, 25 mg phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride and 2 mg chlorpheniramine maleate. The auxiliary components are silicon dioxide, sodium starch, corn starch, magnesium stearate, sodium starch and talc.

The company produces not only Radicold, but also its modification – Radicold Plus. The latter contains the same active ingredients, plus caffeine. The multi-component composition provides symptomatic treatment of colds and acute respiratory viral infections.

Pharmacodynamics

The medication stimulates the central nervous system, but does not increase blood pressure. Phenylephrine, which is part of the drug, reduces swelling and hyperemia of the mucous membrane, which facilitates nasal breathing. The component has an anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator and anti-allergic effect. Caffeine increases motor activity, eliminates headaches and a feeling of lethargy. In addition, the combination of paracetamol and caffeine enhances the analgesic and antipyretic effects of the former.

Pharmacodynamics of Radicold is the principle of action of the active components after their oral administration. So, the tablets are a combination remedy for the treatment of allergic reactions, runny nose and symptoms of viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. Let's consider the pharmacodynamics of each component in more detail:

• Paracetamol is a derivative of para-aminophenol with analgesic and antipyretic effects. The substance reduces the excitability of the thermoregulation center in the hypothalamus and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins.
• Chlorphenamine is an H1-receptor blocker with a moderate sedative effect. The substance has an anti-allergic effect, significantly reduces the severity of exudative processes, eliminates rhinorrhea, lacrimation, itching in the nose and eyes.
• Phenylpropanolamine – this component causes vasoconstriction and affects α-adrenergic receptors. Due to this, tissue hyperemia and swelling are reduced, and the patency of the nasal passage is increased.

Pharmacokinetics

The pharmacokinetics of Radicold directly depends on the pharmacokinetic properties of each of its active components. Let's consider these substances:

• Paracetamol – 95% absorbed in the upper intestine. Maximum concentration in blood plasma is observed after 15 minutes and remains for 2 hours after administration. Half-life is 2-3 hours. The substance is metabolized in the liver and excreted in urine.
• Chlorpheniramine is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, the absorption rate is 80%. The maximum concentration is observed 3-6 hours after administration. Plasma protein binding is 45%. It is excreted in the urine, the half-life is about 30 hours.
• Phenylpropanolamine is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration is reached in 1-2 hours. Metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. The half-life is 3-4 hours.

Dosing and administration

The method of administration and dosage are individual for each patient. As a rule, the necessary dosage is selected by the attending physician. Radicold is taken after meals. Adults are recommended to take 1 tablet three times a day at the first symptoms of flu or upper respiratory tract infection. The intervals between doses should not be less than four hours. The duration of treatment is 5-7 days.

Longer use of Radicold is not recommended, as it may negatively affect the functioning of the body and complicate further treatment of ARVI. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as overdose symptoms and other side effects are possible.

Use Radicold during pregnancy

The use of Radicold during pregnancy is not permitted. To date, no clinical studies have been conducted, and there is no reliable data on the effect of the components of the drug on the fetus. The tablets are also prohibited for use during breastfeeding.

If the medicine is used during pregnancy, the woman should be aware of the possible risks to the fetus. As a rule, during pregnancy, the first symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections and flu are eliminated with the help of safe herbal remedies and traditional medicine methods.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Radicold are based on the activity of its active components. So, the tablets are prohibited to take in case of:

• Individual intolerance to one of the ingredients of the medicine
• Arterial hypertension
• During pregnancy and lactation
• Ischemic heart disease
• Chronic alcoholism
• Diabetes mellitus
• Diseases of the central nervous system
• Prostatic hyperplasia
• Patient is under 12 years of age
• Impaired functioning of the kidneys and liver.

Side effects Radicold

Side effects of Radicold may occur if the dosage of the medicine is not followed or the recommended treatment period is exceeded. Possible side effects:

• Headache and dizziness
• Nausea and vomiting
• Sleep disturbance
• Dryness of the mucous membranes of the nose and respiratory tract
• Allergic reactions (skin rashes)
• Liver and kidney dysfunction
• Visual impairment
• Increased excitability, insomnia and irritability.

Overdose

Overdose occurs with prolonged use and non-compliance with the dosage. The main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, kidney damage, hepatonecrosis. In rare cases, anorexia is possible. Treatment is symptomatic. The patient undergoes gastric lavage, enterosorbents and N-acetylcysteine are prescribed intravenously.

There is a risk group for developing side effects, including patients with high blood pressure, elderly people and men with hypertrophy (benign) of the prostate gland. Liver disease and alcohol consumption increase the toxic effect of the tablets. During therapy, it is not recommended to engage in dangerous activities or drive vehicles.

Interactions with other drugs

Interaction of Radicold with other drugs is possible only if a doctor recommends using several drugs at the same time.

• Concomitant administration of tablets with rifampicin or barbiturates increases the risk of hepatotoxic effects of the drug.
• The drug enhances the effect of sedatives, MAO inhibitors and ethanol. However, the drug should not be taken with other drugs that contain paracetamol.
• The drug increases the activity of indirect anticoagulants. If the tablets are taken with propranolol, cardiac glycosides or atenolol, arrhythmia is possible.

Storage conditions

Storage conditions for Radicold correspond to the rules for storing other medicinal tablets. It must be stored in a dry place, protected from sunlight. The storage temperature should not exceed 25 ° C. Radicold should be kept away from children.

Failure to comply with storage conditions leads to spoilage of the medicine and loss of its pharmaceutical properties. If the tablets have changed their color or have an unpleasant smell, they should be disposed of. All drugs are stored in their original packaging.

Special instructions

Radicold can rightfully be considered one of the most effective means for eliminating the first symptoms of colds. A couple of tablets can prevent the development of serious complications and restore normal health.

Shelf life

The shelf life is 36 months from the date of manufacture. The date of manufacture is indicated on the package. After its expiration, the drug is prohibited for use, as uncontrolled side effects from many organs and systems of the body are possible.
