Pine buds are considered to be no less effective than birch buds for coughing up bronchitis. It is not for nothing that they can be found in many herbal chest infusions. Pine buds have a powerful expectorant effect due to the increased production of bronchial secretions and stimulation of the functions of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi. In addition, they have an excellent anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect. Pine buds help fight viruses that have entered the body and increase immunity (they contain phytoncides and a rich vitamin-mineral complex).
Dosing and administration
The most effective mucolytic, expectorant and antibacterial agent is considered to be an alcohol tincture of pine buds. And this is not surprising, because alcohol only enhances the specific action of pine essential oils. This medicine can be used both for internal use and locally (rubbing, compresses).
It will take 1-2 weeks to prepare the medicine, so it is better to prepare it in advance. We take vodka or 40% alcohol as the flammable component of the medicine. The ratio between the amount of pine buds and alcohol should be 1:10. We keep the infusion warm and dark for 1-2 weeks, after which it can be stored at room temperature. During the time of infusion of the medicine, the jar with the composition will need to be shaken well several times.
For bronchitis, the tincture is taken internally three times a day, 5 ml each. In the acute period of the disease, the dose can be 8 ml, which corresponds to a dessert spoon.
A decoction of fresh or dried pine buds is good for treating chronic bronchitis and strengthening the body's defenses. Take 1 tablespoon of plant material for 2 glasses of water, boil for a couple of minutes and leave for another half hour. Drink strained after meals. A single dose is a quarter of a glass. Frequency of administration is 3 times a day.
In case of acute bronchitis, while the cough is still dry, to improve the removal of mucus from the bronchi, it is recommended to make a decoction in milk (1 teaspoon of buds per 1 cup of milk). The decoction should be boiled for no more than 5 minutes, and infused for about a quarter of an hour.
The fatter the milk, the more effective the decoction will be. To enhance the effect and improve the taste, you can add a little honey. Take the medicine, as in the previous case, 4 times a day. A single dose is 2 tbsp.
On the pharmacy drug called "Pine Buds" you can see the following recipe for a decoction: pour 10 g of plant material with 1 glass of cool water, bring the composition to a boil in a water bath and hold for another half an hour. Cool the decoction to a warm state, filter it and take 3-4 times a day, one tablespoon at a time. The decoction should be hot enough at the time of taking, but not scalding.
An infusion of pine buds with a high content of phytoncides is considered an excellent antimicrobial, antipyretic and expectorant. Take 1 tbsp of pine buds per 1 cup of boiling water and leave in a warm place for 2 hours.
Take the strained infusion three times a day. Single dose – 2 tbsp.
A decoction of pine buds is well suited for steam inhalations for coughs. It contains components that help fight bacterial and viral agents and facilitate the discharge of sputum during dry and wet coughs. With the doctor's permission, such inhalations can be performed even on children.
Contraindications
Pine buds, despite all their benefits, are not a completely safe medicine. Treatment with them is considered unacceptable:
- for expectant mothers (due to the risk of miscarriage, since breaking a pine tree can increase the tone of the uterus),
- during breastfeeding (substances contained in pine can have a negative impact on a fragile child’s body.
- for patients with hepatitis (due to the heavy load on the liver),
- in severe kidney diseases, especially in case of functional failure of the organ (due to the strong diuretic effect),
- for people with hypersensitivity to pine resins and allergic reactions to the plant.
Treatment with pine buds is used with caution in childhood and old age, again due to the heavy load on human organs and systems. Such treatment is recommended for children no earlier than after reaching the age of 12. However, in some sources, you can find information that such means are dangerous only for children under 7 years old.
If the patient has chronic kidney or liver disease, before using folk remedies, it will be necessary to consult a doctor about their safety.
Side effects pine buds
Most often, pine and its buds cause allergic reactions due to the high content of essential oils and resinous substances. But the use of products with pine buds in large doses is fraught with the appearance of nausea, vomiting, headaches, liver and kidney dysfunction, and deterioration of the general condition.
Storage conditions
In early spring, when nature begins to revive, you need to collect pine buds, cutting them on branches with a small section of the stem, called the "crown". The blossoming buds should be left on the tree.
Plant materials should be stored naturally in a ventilated area, but not in the sun. It is not recommended to use stoves, ovens and dryers due to the loss of resinous substances.
Store pine buds for about 2 years in a cool room with low humidity. Sealed containers are not suitable for storing raw materials. It is better to use cardboard containers or fabric bags.
