Penzital prevents incomplete digestion of food, which allows to remove the load on the pancreas, and at the same time eliminates pathogenic gas formation, improving the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.

The active ingredient of the drug is pancreatin. This component is released inside the body under the influence of the alkaline environment that forms inside the small intestine, and then turns into a substitute for secretions produced by the pancreas. [ 1 ]

Indications Penzital

It is used for the following disorders:

  • pancreatic insufficiency of an exocrine nature associated with pancreatectomy or chronic pancreatitis;
  • conditions after gastroenterological resection procedures;
  • achilia;
  • gastritis of an antacid or hypoacid nature;
  • incorrect diet;
  • preparation for fluoroscopy;
  • liver disease-associated dyspepsia;
  • preparation of the gastrointestinal tract for ultrasound examination.

Release form

The medicine is released in tablets, 20, 30 or 100 pieces per box.

Pharmacodynamics

Under the influence of pancreatin on food entering the intestine, a complete process of breakdown of fats with complex carbohydrates, as well as proteins, into simple elements that are easily absorbed is realized. [ 2 ]

Dosing and administration

The medication should be taken immediately before meals, but it can also be taken after meals. It is forbidden to wash down Penzital with alkaline liquids.

The portion size is selected by a gastroenterologist, taking into account the intensity of enzyme deficiency, as well as the dietary characteristics of the patient. An adult is usually prescribed 1-2 tablets 3 times a day. It is permissible to increase the daily portion to 16 tablets.

Portions for children should be selected individually. On average, pediatricians prescribe:

  • age 6-9 years – 1 tablet 2 times a day;
  • age 10-14 years – 2 tablets 2 times a day.

In case of overeating of alimentary nature, an ultra-short treatment cycle can be prescribed - for 1-2 days in the form of a replacement substance. In case of insufficiency associated with the work of the pancreas, Penzital can be used continuously for several years.

  • Application for children

Studies on the safety and medicinal efficacy of the drug in pediatrics have not been conducted, which is why it is not recommended to prescribe it to this group.

Use Penzital during pregnancy

Penzital can be administered during pregnancy only if there are strict indications, when the benefit to the woman is more likely than the risks to the fetus.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • active phase of pancreatitis or exacerbation of its chronic form;
  • severe sensitivity associated with elements of the drug and pancreatin.

Side effects Penzital

When using the medication, negative symptoms such as hyperuricosuria or -uricemia, irritation in the perianal area, diarrhea, irritation of the oral mucosa, the formation of strictures in some areas of the colon, as well as discomfort in the epigastric region and nausea may be observed.

Overdose

In case of pancreatin poisoning, hyperuricemia or uricosuria develops, as well as constipation (in pediatrics).

The medication must be discontinued, followed by gastrointestinal lavage and symptomatic measures, taking into account signs of overdose.

Interactions with other drugs

Antacids containing Mg, Al or Ca ions reduce the effectiveness of the drug.

Use together with iron substances reduces the absorption of this component.

Combination with antithrombotic drugs weakens the therapeutic effect of these agents.

Use in combination with aspirin reduces its medicinal effect.

Non-selective monoamine reuptake inhibitors, when administered together with Penzital, cause dangerous sedation.

Use simultaneously with m-anticholinergics leads to potentiation of anticholinergic activity.

Alkaline liquids cause disruption of the pharmacodynamic parameters of the drug.

Storage conditions

Penzital must be stored at temperatures no higher than 25°C.

Shelf life

Penzital can be used for a period of 36 months from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic product.

Analogues of the drug are Panzinorm, Panzim forte, Biozym, Pancreoflat with Pancreatin, and also Gastenorm, Mikrazim and Linkreaz with Pancrenorm and Pancreon. In addition, the list includes Mezim, Vestal and Pangrol, Ermital, Zimet and Pancitrate with Neo-panpur, as well as Creon, PanziCam, Enzistal and Creazim.
