Pectoral is used in case of developing a cold or severe cough. It is a combined medicinal product on a natural basis - includes various plant components. The extracts of medicinal herbs contained in its composition have various therapeutic properties. They stimulate the excretory activity of the bronchi, and at the same time liquefy excessively viscous sputum and help to facilitate its subsequent removal.

Indications Pectoral

It is used for combination therapy in cases of inflammation and infections affecting the respiratory tract, against which a cough is observed. Among these are bronchitis or colds, in which there are problems with the removal of viscous sputum.

Release form

The drug is released in the form of syrup, inside 0.1 l bottles. The kit also contains a dosing spoon.

Pharmacodynamics

Plantain extract has an enveloping, expectorant and disinfectant effect.

Primrose extract has antispasmodic activity; it is often used for diseases affecting the respiratory tract.

Senega extract exhibits expectorant, stimulating and irritating effects, and enhances the excretory function of the bronchi.

Thyme extract has bactericidal, expectorant, analgesic and soothing properties, relieves cough during chronic or active bronchitis.

Dosing and administration

To accurately follow the dosage, it is necessary to use the dosing spoon, which is included with the medicine. The volume of 1 such spoon is 5 ml.

Children aged 5 years are prescribed to take 5 ml of syrup (1 teaspoon) 4 times a day or with 4-hour breaks (but a maximum of 20 ml per day).

The age group 6-11 years should take 10 ml (2 spoons) 4 times a day or at 4-hour intervals (but not more than 40 ml per day).

Teenagers aged 12 and over and adults need to take 10-15 ml of the substance (2-3 spoons) 4-5 times a day or at 4-hour intervals.

  • Application for children

The medication is not prescribed to persons under 5 years of age.

Use Pectoral during pregnancy

Use without prior discussion with a doctor who makes the decision to prescribe the drug is prohibited.

Contraindications

Main contraindications:

  • severe intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • GERD (also reflux esophagitis);
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • increased gastric pH values;
  • ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • severe pathologies affecting the kidneys or liver.

Medicines containing primrose and thyme should not be prescribed to people with bronchial asthma, as well as to children with a history of obstructive laryngitis in the active phase.

Side effects Pectoral

The syrup contains extracts of thyme, senega, plantain and primrose, which can occasionally cause gastrointestinal dysfunction (nausea, constipation, flatulence and spasms). Occasionally, they cause symptoms of intolerance (including epidermal rashes, dyspnea and Quincke's edema).

If negative symptoms develop, you should stop taking the medication and consult a doctor.

Overdose

Poisoning with thyme substances can cause nausea. Significant intoxication with primrose, plantain, thyme or senega causes headaches and discomfort.

Interactions with other drugs

It is necessary to take into account that the medication contains ethanol, which can potentiate or weaken the activity of other therapeutic agents.

Storage conditions

Pectoral should be stored in a place closed to small children. Temperature level – maximum 25°C.

Shelf life

Pectoral is allowed to be used within a 36-month period from the date of manufacture of the medicine. The shelf life of an opened bottle is 10 days.

The analogs of the drug are Mucaltin, Fitobronchol, Prospan with Licorice, Bronchipret and Pertussin with Eucabal, as well as Gedelix.
