What are burns, everyone knows. Burn injuries of varying degrees can be obtained at home in the kitchen, when the fire is kindled in nature, and in any other place. However, the first aid kit is not always at hand, so the question often arises: what tool can be used to relieve the burn? For example, does oil help burn? And if so, which one?

Is it possible to smear a burn with butter?

In occasion of, whether it is possible to smear a burn with oil, opinions of experts were divided.

Many of them believe that applying any oily substance to the damaged skin can slow the healing. However, in practice, thousands of people use this method, which nevertheless proves to be quite effective: oil not only pains, but also softens the skin, which promotes early regeneration. In addition, various oils (particularly vegetable oils) are almost always at hand.

Thus, you can use oil preparations for burns. The main thing is to do it correctly, which we will discuss later in this article.

Oils with sunburn

Solar burns are one of the main problems of a hot summer period. In an effort to be beautiful, many abused stay in the sun, which subsequently manifests itself in the form of redness and burning of the skin.

Long stay under the scorching sun rays is considered very harmful to the body. In addition to burn damage, it threatens the heat stroke and even the development of tumor processes in the skin.

A sunburn can not manifest itself immediately. It is not uncommon for people to come home from a rest, and only in the evening they find that they have "been burnt". In this situation, the most often are the owners of light sensitive skin.

What to do if there was a sunburn, and there are no pharmacy products at home?

You can take a little olive oil, warm with a water bath, cool and lubricate the affected skin. Olives have a rich mineral and vitamin composition, including a number of fatty polyunsaturated acids. Thanks to this procedure, the skin softens, on it a protective film is formed, which prevents the moisture outflow and overdrying of the surface layers.

In addition to olive, you can use other unrefined vegetable oils.

Oil when burned with boiling water

Burns with boiling water are undesirable to treat independently, except for superficial and small skin lesions. At the second and even more third degree of burn damage, you should immediately seek medical help.

For an early healing of the burn wound, you can use your own cooking ointment. It will take only beeswax and sunflower oil. So, we mix 1 tbsp. L. Wax and 3 tbsp. L. Oil, warm and cool. The ointment is ready: now it can be applied to the burn sites up to 4 times a day.

According to the feedback of users, such ointment reduces painful sensations already for several hours after application, and in a few days the place of burn will become invisible.

Indications of the oils from burns

Often people underestimate the whole danger of the situation associated with burns, and try to treat themselves without referring to doctors. But you need to remember that at home you can treat only light superficial burns. For example, oil products can help in the following cases:

  • if the burn area does not exceed the palm of a person;
  • if the skin on the burn was red, but not charred, not white and has no signs of a complete damage;
  • if the burn is not related to the mucous, the face area, the groin area and the joints;
  • if it is not a electric shock;
  • if the victim feels well.

If the burn is small, but it happened in a child, a pregnant woman or an elderly person, then the doctor should be obligatory and urgent.

With a small surface burn in traditional medicine, mainly external drugs with cooling and bactericidal action are used - these can be gels or creams. Alternative medicine offers a more simple and affordable way to treat burns - this is oil therapy. You can use different oils - vegetable, ethereal, etc. Consider the application of the most popular types of oil products.

  • Sea buckthorn oil is the most common oil from burns, tested for years. It successfully heals wounds, prevents inflammation. This remedy must be in every home medicine cabinet. When applied to the affected skin, the sea buckthorn helps to remove excess fluid, which eliminates swelling, prevents the growth of bacterial infection, improves the condition of the vessels.

When burns, effectively apply cotton dressings impregnated with oil. The procedure should be done in the following order:

  • Butter itself is unlikely to help in the treatment of burns. However, in combination with other components, the softening properties of such a product can be very helpful. For example, with burns, a recipe is often used:

Pharmacodynamics

When applied to the burned skin, the oils act approximately the same way:

  • cover the wound with a protective film that prevents the infection from entering the wound and prevents the moisture from leaving the tissues;
  • prevent the formation of edema.

If the oils contain antibacterial components (for example, sea buckthorn oil, fir, dogrose), they also have an anti-inflammatory effect.

Most oil products soften the skin, preventing the appearance of scar changes.

Essential oils, including eucalyptus oil, lavender, tea tree, cloves, have an antiseptic effect. This contributes to a much faster healing of the wound surface.

Pharmacokinetics

The oil is not absorbed into the systemic circulation from the surface of the burn wound, but acts as an external agent. For this reason, it is not possible to talk about kinetic properties.

Dosing and administration

Practically for all oils from burns there are a number of generally accepted recommendations for use:

  • Burn wound should be treated with a solution of hydrogen peroxide as an additional disinfection;
  • after the peroxide solution, the wound should be dried for a few minutes;
  • Further it is possible to impregnate a cotton napkin with the cooled butter and to put it to the amazed skin.

In addition, a napkin with oil should be strengthened with a bandage bandage.

Dressings are recommended to be carried out at first every 3-4 hours, after - 2 times a day. If everything is done correctly, the skin will gradually improve, and the wound will completely heal in 4-15 days, depending on the characteristics of the burn.

Use of the oils from burns during pregnancy

During pregnancy, any diseases and injuries, including burns, should be treated better by the doctor. Of course, if the burn is insignificant, and looks like a slight reddening, then you can use the oil as a first aid.

If blisters appear on the wound, or the area of the burn is relatively large, then the doctor should be treated only. Burn during pregnancy can have negative consequences:

  • premature birth or the threat of termination of pregnancy as a result of a woman's stress;
  • intoxication of the fetus with toxic substances, which turn out to be in the bloodstream with a large burn.

In the case of burns of 2-3 degrees, an appeal to a doctor should become mandatory.

Contraindications

Oil from burns should never be used:

Side effects of the oils from burns

Sometimes after applying oil on the affected skin, the sensation of burning can increase. This is a temporary phenomenon, which is associated with an additional irritation of the already irritated skin. After a short while, the burning must subside.

If the unpleasant sensations do not go away, and the redness increases, then this may be a sign of an allergic reaction to the oil. In a similar situation, the oil must be rinsed immediately with cool water with antibacterial soap and consult a doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

There were no reliable studies on the interaction of oils with burns with other anti-burn agents, since the use of oils is considered part of alternative medicine. For this reason, it is not recommended to combine the treatment with oils and other medications: it is better to use such drugs separately from each other.

Storage conditions

Most oils are stored at room temperature. An exception is flaxseed oil, which must be stored only in the refrigerator, otherwise it will lose its useful properties. It is impossible to freeze the oil.

trusted-source[27]

Shelf life

The shelf life of most oils, like other natural products, is relatively small. If the storage rules are observed, such terms can be 1-2 years. If the packaging with oil indicates that the product can be stored for several years, then this is not always true. A long shelf life is available only to some highly stable varieties of oil - this jojoba and crabbe, which are stored for 3 years or even longer.

Important point: oil from burns should be of high quality. Otherwise, oxidation products can have a negative and harmful effect on the components of skin cells.
