Pharmacodynamics

Nazo-spray is a drug from the group of external vasoconstrictor drugs. The active ingredient oxymetazoline has an α-adrenomimetic property, being a synthetic adrenomimetic.

Naso-spray stops nasal discharge of almost any etiology. Active oxymetazoline quickly constricts blood vessels locally, reduces signs of tissue swelling, facilitates breathing through the nose and restores olfactory function.

The use of the drug does not disrupt mucociliary clearance, and the functional properties of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract are soon restored.

Pharmacokinetics

Oxymetazoline shows its effect immediately after application of the drug to the mucous membranes. The duration of the vasoconstrictive effect is approximately 12 hours.

Systemic distribution of the active component is insignificant. Excretion occurs through the urinary and digestive systems. The half-life is from 5 to 8 days.

Dosing and administration

Naso-spray is applied by intranasal administration, which is carried out as follows:

  • remove the protective cap from the bottle;
  • insert the spray tip shallowly into the nasal passage and press on the spray with the pad of your finger while taking a deep breath through your nose;
  • It is not necessary to tilt your head back when using the spray;
  • After use, close the spray tip with a protective cap.

For children over 6 years of age and adults, one injection is administered into each nostril. It is not recommended to administer more than one injection at a time.

The frequency of application of the drug is once every 10-12 hours. The duration of the treatment course is 5-7 days maximum.

During breastfeeding, oxymetazoline-based products should be used with great caution.

Overdose

When using the drug Nazo-spray for more than one week in a row, as well as in case of accidental ingestion of the drug, the following signs of overdose may be observed:

  • peripheral vascular spasms;
  • dilation or constriction of the pupil;
  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;

  • convulsions, nervous disorders, strong emotional arousal.

Sometimes an overdose is characterized by a disruption of the central nervous system, which manifests itself as fatigue, drowsiness, a drop in blood pressure, and the development of a comatose state.

Interactions with other drugs

When used in combination with other drugs that can constrict blood vessels, increased side effects may occur.

The active ingredient impairs the absorption of other nasal solutions and prolongs their period of action, and also enhances the effect of MAO inhibitors on the nervous system.

Long-term use of Nazo-spray is not recommended, as it may provoke the development of atrophic changes in the mucous epithelial tissue. For the same reasons, several vasoconstrictors should not be used simultaneously.

Treatment of chronic forms of rhinitis should be carried out sequentially, in combination with other means.

Storage conditions

Nazo-spray should be stored in dark places (for example, in a closet), away from children's access. The optimal temperature for preserving the medicine is up to +25°C.
