Pharmacodynamics

Spray Nazivin has an external vasoconstrictor effect. The active ingredient oxymetazoline is a synthetic adrenomimetic that activates adrenoreceptors located in the smooth musculature of the nasal vasculature.

Nazivin stops the rhinorrhea of any origin. The active substance oxymetazoline rapidly narrows the surface vessels, reduces the signs of swelling of the mucous tissues, facilitates breathing through the nose and restores the sense of smell.

Pharmacokinetics

Oxymetazoline begins to act immediately after applying the drug to the mucous membranes. The duration of the vasoconstrictive effect is up to 10 - 12 hours.

Systemic absorption of the active component is negligible. Excretion is carried out by means of kidneys (more than 2%) and intestines (more than 1%). The half-life is about 35 hours.

Interactions with other drugs

In complex treatment with other means that can narrow the blood vessels, there may be an increase in side effects.

Oxymetazoline blocks the absorption of other nasal drops and lengthens the period of their action, and also increases the effect on the central nervous system of MAO inhibitor drugs.

It is not recommended to use Nazivin for a long time, since this can provoke the development of atrophic changes in the mucous epithelium. For the same reasons, several local vasoconstrictors should not be used simultaneously.

For the treatment of chronic forms of rhinitis, Nazivin is administered in combination with other medications, depending on the cause of the common cold.
