Pharmacodynamics

Spray Nazalong is a popular representative of the group of external vasoconstrictor drugs. The active ingredient oxymetazoline has an α-adrenergic property, being a synthetic adrenomimetic.

Nazalonge eliminates the rhinorrhea of virtually any etiology. The active substance of the drug rapidly narrows the vessels at the local level, reduces the signs of swelling of the tissues, facilitates breathing through the nose and restores the sense of smell.

Along with the use of the drug, mucociliary clearance is not impaired, and the functional capacity of the mucocutaneous upper respiratory tract is soon renewed.

Pharmacokinetics

Oksimetazolin shows its effect immediately after application of the drug on the mucous membranes. The duration of the vasoconstrictive effect is no more than 12 hours.

Systemic absorption of the active component is negligible. Excretion is carried out through the urinary and digestive system. The duration of half-life is from 5 to 8 days.

Dosing and administration

Spray Nazalong provides intranasal administration, which is carried out as follows:

  • remove the protective cap from the bottle;
  • if the first application of the spray is intended, it is recommended that its use be tested before the appearance of finely dispersed spraying;
  • inject the spray tip shallow into the nasal passage and press the fingertip with the finger pad while simultaneously taking a deep breath through the nose;
  • tipping head when using a spray is optional;
  • After use, cover the spray tip with a protective cap.

Children after 12 years and adults are given 1-2 injections in each nostril opening. Children from 6 to 12 years are advised not to spend more than one injection at a time.

The frequency of application of the drug is 1 time per 10-12 hours. The duration of the treatment course is 4-5 days as much as possible.

Overdose

If you use Nazalong for more than one week in a row, and if you accidentally swallow the medicine, there may be signs of overdose:

  • dilated pupil;
  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;
  • cyanosis of limbs;
  • spasms of peripheral vessels;
  • heart rhythm disorders;
  • insufficiency of cardiac activity;
  • a collaptoid state;
  • hyperhidrosis;
  • pulmonary edema, respiratory function disorders;
  • blanching of the skin;
  • convulsions, nervous disorders.

Often overdose is characterized by a violation of the central nervous system, which is manifested by fatigue, drowsiness, a drop in blood pressure, the development of a coma.

When swallowing the drug is recommended to wash the stomach, take enterosorbent drugs. In severe cases, connect the respirator, prescribe antispanying drugs.

Interactions with other drugs

With the combined use of other drugs that can narrow the blood vessels, there may be an increase in side effects.

The active ingredient worsens the absorption of other nasal drops and lengthens the period of their action, and also increases the effect on the central nervous system of MAO inhibitor preparations.

It is not recommended to use Nazalong Spray for a long time, since this can provoke the development of atrophic changes in the mucous epithelium. For the same reasons, several local vasoconstrictors should not be used simultaneously.

Treatment of chronic forms of rhinitis should be carried out in conjunction with other drugs, depending on the etiology of the disease.
