The drug Nazalong is intended for local use, for the treatment of rhinitis of various etiologies. According to the ATC classifier, the drug is assigned the code R01AA05.

Nazalong is a non-prescription drug.

Indications Nazalong

Nazalong is prescribed in the complex treatment of rhinitis of various origins:

  • infectious nasal discharge;
  • vasomotor rhinitis;
  • allergic rhinitis;
  • swelling of the nasal cavity and sinuses, sinusitis;
  • otitis media;
  • hay fever.

In addition to the listed indications, Nazalong can be used to prepare for rhinoscopy or surgical interventions in the nasal cavity.

Release form

The intranasal drug Nazalong is available in spray bottles with a dispenser, 10 and 25 ml, packed in a cardboard box.

10 g of the preparation contains:

  • oxymetazoline hydrochloride – 0.005 g;
  • additional ingredients.

Pharmacodynamics

Nazalong spray is a popular representative of the group of external vasoconstrictor drugs. The active ingredient oxymetazoline has an α-adrenomimetic property, being a synthetic adrenomimetic.

Nazalong eliminates rhinorrhea of almost any etiology. The active substance of the drug quickly constricts blood vessels locally, reduces signs of tissue swelling, facilitates breathing through the nose and restores the sense of smell.

Along with the use of the drug, mucociliary clearance is not disturbed, and the functional abilities of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract are quickly restored.

Pharmacokinetics

Oxymetazoline shows its effect immediately after application of the drug to the mucous membranes. The duration of the vasoconstrictive effect is no more than 12 hours.

Systemic absorption of the active component is insignificant. Excretion occurs through the urinary and digestive systems. Half-life is 5 to 8 days.

Dosing and administration

Nazalong spray is intended for intranasal administration, which is carried out as follows:

  • remove the protective cap from the bottle;
  • If you are planning to use the spray for the first time, it is recommended to test it until a fine spray appears;
  • insert the spray tip shallowly into the nasal passage and press on the spray pad with the pad of your finger while taking a deep breath through your nose;
  • tilting your head back when using the spray is not necessary;
  • After use, cover the spray tip with a protective cap.

For children over 12 years of age and adults, 1-2 sprays are administered into each nostril. For children aged 6 to 12 years, it is not recommended to administer more than one spray at a time.

The frequency of use of the drug is once every 10-12 hours. The duration of the treatment course is 4-5 days maximum.

Overdose

If you use Nazalong for more than one week in a row, or if you accidentally swallow the medicine, you may experience the following signs of overdose:

  • pupil dilation;
  • attacks of nausea and vomiting;
  • cyanosis of the extremities;
  • peripheral vascular spasms;
  • heart rhythm disorders;
  • cardiac insufficiency;
  • collapse state;
  • hyperhidrosis;
  • pulmonary edema, respiratory dysfunction;
  • paleness of the skin;
  • convulsions, nervous disorders.

Often, an overdose is characterized by a disruption of the central nervous system, which manifests itself as fatigue, drowsiness, a drop in blood pressure, and the development of a comatose state.

If the drug is swallowed, it is recommended to wash the stomach and take enterosorbent drugs. In severe cases, connect an artificial respiration apparatus, prescribe anticonvulsants.

Interactions with other drugs

When used in combination with other drugs that can constrict blood vessels, increased side effects may occur.

The active ingredient impairs the absorption of other nasal drops and prolongs their period of action, and also enhances the effect of MAO inhibitor drugs on the central nervous system.

Long-term use of Nazalong Spray is not recommended, as it may provoke the development of atrophic changes in the mucous epithelium. For the same reasons, several vasoconstrictors of local action should not be used simultaneously.

Treatment of chronic forms of rhinitis should be carried out in combination with other means, depending on the etiology of the disease.
