Indications Meverina

It is used to carry out the following procedures:

  • symptomatic measures that help relieve abdominal spasms and pain, as well as the feeling of discomfort, as well as disorders that develop with diagnosed IBS;
  • elimination of spasms in the gastrointestinal tract that are secondary in nature – due to diseases of the gallbladder, liver, pancreas, and also the intestines.

Release form

The medication is released in capsules, in the amount of 30 pieces per pack.

Pharmacodynamics

Meverine is a selective myotropic antispasmodic with a pronounced effect on smooth muscles in the gastrointestinal tract. The substance mebeverine can eliminate muscle spasms inside the gastrointestinal tract, while not affecting the healthy function of intestinal peristalsis.

The medicine is prescribed to people suffering from digestive disorders, in which pain of a spastic nature is observed, and in addition to this, for the treatment of organic diseases of the digestive organs, with the development of secondary spasms in the gastrointestinal tract.

Inside smooth muscle cells, mebeverine administered in a medicinal dose blocks the membranes of Na channels, and at the same time prevents the passage of sodium ions into the cells, and in addition, spasms in the area of smooth muscles of internal organs.

Compared to anticholinergic drugs, the medication does not affect M-cholinergic receptors and does not cause side effects typical for this category of antispasmodics (such as visual disturbances, delayed urination, and dry mouth). This allows it to be used for enlarged prostate and glaucoma. At the same time, the use of the drug does not lead to the formation of intestinal hypotension, which has a reflex origin.

Pharmacokinetics

After taking the capsule orally, the drug undergoes a process of presystemic hydrolysis. The substance is not registered in the blood plasma. Metabolism occurs in the liver, resulting in the formation of mebeverine alcohol together with veratric acid.

Most of the drug is excreted through the kidneys - in the form of dimethylcarboxylic and carboxylic acids. A smaller part is excreted with bile.

Long-term release of the active element from capsules still does not cause its significant accumulation.

Dosing and administration

The medicine should be taken in a 0.2 g portion (the volume of 1 capsule), twice in 24 hours. It is recommended to take the drug 20 minutes before meals.

The capsules should be swallowed whole with plain water. The duration of the treatment course is selected taking into account the severity of the disease and symptoms.

Overdose

In cases of mebeverine poisoning, signs of potentiation of CNS excitability were often observed, which were quickly eliminated.

To eliminate the disorder, gastric lavage should be performed, and then symptomatic measures should be taken (if necessary).

Storage conditions

Meverin is kept in standard conditions for medicines. Temperature marks are within 15-25°C.
