Likopid is a modern medicine of the latest generation that activates the immune system. A monodrug with the active component glucosaminylmuramyl dipeptide, the prototype of which, a natural glycopeptide, is a building material for the cell membrane of bacterial agents. When Likopid enters the body, the natural process of immune response to pathogenic microorganisms is imitated.

Indications lycopid for psoriasis

This drug is an immunocorrector and is used for acquired immunodeficiency conditions:

  • chronic infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (in particular, prevention of acute respiratory viral infections);
  • tuberculosis;
  • dermatitis and dermatoses, infectious and inflammatory lesions of soft tissues, including postoperative;
  • all forms of herpes of any localization;
  • trophic ulcers of various etiologies;
  • HPV infection;
  • vaginal dysbacteriosis;
  • hepatitis B and C;
  • psoriatic skin lesions, including complicated ones.

One of the supposed prerequisites for the development of psoriasis is called a disorder of the immune system, and the hypothesis of its viral nature is not excluded. The effectiveness of Likopid in psoriasis is possibly explained by the properties of glucosaminylmuramyl dipeptide to activate the production of α-tumor necrosis factor and, as a consequence, interleukin 1, which play a significant role in the development of many autoimmune pathologies. When using certain treatment regimens, positive results in correcting immunity can be achieved.

The therapeutic effect of treating psoriasis with Likopid was achieved in approximately 80% of cases. With effective treatment, by the end of the first week, the appearance of new papules and the growth of old lesions ceased, flaking decreased, the regressive stage began, and psoriatic plaques disappeared by the end of the second or third week.

Likopid is used to treat psoriasis due to its ability to eliminate inflammation, destroy viruses, activate metabolic processes, restore normal blood flow and skin surface. Its bactericidal and fungicidal properties help to resist secondary infection.

However, doctors' reviews of Likopid for psoriasis are ambiguous. There is an opinion that this drug can only be used in complex therapy in order to enhance the effect of other drugs. Monotherapy with this drug is not welcomed by many doctors.

Release form

Likopid is released in the form of tablets containing 0.001 g or 0.01 g of glucosaminylmuramyl dipeptide.

Pharmacodynamics

Likopid's action is directed at macrophages, it enhances their function of "eating" microorganisms, toxicity to cells infected with viruses, expression of HLA-DR antigens, production of γ-interferon, interleukins 1, 6, 12, α-tumor necrosis factor, colony stimulators. The active component of the drug, binding to the NOD-like intracellular immune receptor, reproduces the natural immune response to the attack of pathogenic microorganisms and stimulates innate immunity.

Likopid activates all types of immune defense: phagocytosis, immune system cells, humoral factors, as well as cytochrome P-450, which catalyzes the breakdown of toxic and other substances foreign to the body.

Pharmacokinetics

Oral (sublingual) administration provides bioavailability of glucosaminylmuramyl dipeptide at a level of 7-13%. The highest concentration in blood plasma is observed approximately 1 hour 30 minutes after administration. Half of the dose taken is excreted mainly in the urine within a little over four hours.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is contraindicated.

Dosing and administration

The tablets are dissolved under the tongue or taken orally with a small amount of water. After 30 minutes you can eat.

Adult patients are given tablets containing 0.01 g of the active ingredient. The basic regimen for taking the tablets is one tablet twice a day for ten days, then one tablet once every other day for the next ten days. There are other regimens for taking the tablets. In severe cases, such as psoriatic arthropathy, twice a day for two decades.

The treatment regimen is prescribed by the doctor individually, based on the patient’s medical history.

Scaly lichen in children under 16 years of age is treated with tablets of 0.001 g, they are prescribed one piece one to three times a day for ten days.

The consequences of exceeding the recommended dose of the drug are not known.

Contraindications

  • idiosyncrasy to the components of the drug;
  • metabolic disorder and/or galactose intolerance;
  • lactose intolerance;
  • any conditions with a body temperature of 38° or more;
  • relapse of autoimmune thyroiditis;
  • newborns and children under 2 years of age.

Interactions with other drugs

It is not prescribed together with tetracyclines and sulfonamides.

In combination with cephalosporin, fluoroquinolone, penicillin, polyene antibiotics, as well as with antiviral and antifungal drugs, it enhances their effect.

Combination with enterosorbents and antacids reduces the absorption of the active component of Likopid, with glucocorticosteroids it reduces the degree of therapeutic effect of Likopid.
