Another type of medication that is recommended for use in treating complications of overeating is laxatives. Today, the pharmaceutical market offers many medications that normalize bowel function and eliminate constipation.

The drugs are divided into several groups, depending on their mechanism of action:

  • Osmotic laxatives.
  • Irritating effect.
  • Prebiotics.
  • Filler preparations.

When choosing a laxative, it is necessary to take into account that the laxative does not eliminate the cause of constipation, but helps to get rid of stagnation of feces in the intestines. To normalize the stool, you can use the following drugs:

Lactulose

A drug that changes the flora of the large intestine, increases acidity in the organ and stimulates its peristalsis. Increases the volume of feces, has a mild laxative effect, without affecting the mucous membrane and smooth muscles of the intestine. Lactulose is used to treat and prevent chronic constipation, renal encephalopathy, digestive disorders, salmonellosis.

Bisacodyl

A tablet with a pronounced laxative effect. Increases mucus secretion in the large intestine, enhances peristalsis. Stimulates nerve endings of the large intestine. It is used for acute constipation, intestinal atony due to changes in diet. For hypotension and sluggish peristalsis of the large intestine, as well as a means for effective emptying before surgical or diagnostic procedures. The laxative effect occurs within 6-8 hours after taking the medicine.

Regulax

A laxative with active ingredients from the pharmacotherapeutic group of anthranoins. Affects the receptors of the large intestine, stimulates intestinal motility, providing acceleration of the movement of feces in the intestine. The drug is recommended for short-term constipation, 1 cube per day before bedtime. The medicine should be chewed thoroughly, washed down with warm water.

Senadeksin

Contains active substances anthraglycosides, which break down and irritate intestinal receptors. Due to this, water diffuses in the intestinal lumen and softens feces. Increases the volume of excrement and improves peristalsis, stimulating the process of emptying.

The drug is prescribed for acute and chronic constipation caused by intestinal atony, weak peristalsis, unbalanced nutrition. Suitable for preparing the intestines for diagnostic or surgical manipulations.

Sodium sulfate

Saline laxative. It is used for food poisoning to cleanse the intestines. The peculiarity of this drug is that it delays the absorption of toxins into the systemic bloodstream. It is available in powder form. The drug is taken 15-30 g once a day. Side effects are rare and are manifested by dyspeptic disorders of varying severity, profuse urination. It is not used for inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute stage, during pregnancy and lactation.

When choosing a laxative, you should take into account that they come in different forms: tablets, suspensions, teas, powdered preparations. If constipation occurs regularly, it is better to choose prebiotics. They stimulate the digestion process, normalize the state of microflora and have a prolonged effect.

Senade after overeating

Unbalanced nutrition and food abuse, sedentary lifestyle are the main causes of stool disorders. Laxatives are used to treat constipation. Senade has a mild laxative effect. Its active components increase peristalsis of the large intestine, which promotes natural emptying.

  • Indications for use: constipation caused by sluggish peristalsis or hypotonia of the colon, functional constipation. Regulation of stool in proctitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissures. Problems with bowel movements during pregnancy, after surgery, and in elderly patients.
  • Method of administration and dosage: orally 1-3 tablets before bedtime. The laxative effect develops within 8-10 hours. If problems with defecation do not go away after 3 days of treatment, you should seek medical help.
  • Contraindications: intolerance to the components of the drug, gastrointestinal tract and uterine bleeding, peritonitis, abdominal pain of unknown etiology, intestinal obstruction, spastic constipation, cystitis, water-electrolyte imbalance. The drug is prescribed with special caution in kidney and liver diseases, during pregnancy and lactation, for patients under 6 years of age.
  • Side effects: abdominal colic, flatulence, hematuria, albuminuria. Attacks of nausea and vomiting, discoloration of urine, skin allergic reactions, convulsions, increased fatigue.
  • Overdose: severe diarrhea causing dehydration. Treatment is symptomatic with increased fluid intake.

Senade is available in tablet form, 20 tablets per package.

Enema for overeating

Very often, overeating leads to problems with defecation, or more precisely, constipation. To normalize the stool, you can take a laxative or do a cleansing enema. The latter option not only helps to get rid of slagging of the large intestine, but also normalizes the stool. Such cleansing helps to remove toxins and harmful substances from the body, increases peristalsis and has a beneficial effect on the digestion process.

The procedure involves introducing fluid into the large intestine. Enemas are used both for treatment, for example, to deliver medicinal components to the intestine, and for cleansing, that is, liquefying feces and removing them.

The mechanism of action of the enema is that, penetrating into the intestine, the liquid irritates its walls, increasing the contractile ability of the organ. Due to this, the accumulated feces are liquefied, the intestinal walls are cleansed and harmful substances are removed from the organ.

The main indications for a cleansing enema are:

  • Constipation and bowel cleansing.
  • Disruption of bowel movements due to overeating or poor nutrition.
  • Flatulence.
  • Pain in the right hypochondrium.
  • Irregular bowel movements.
  • Food poisoning.
  • Before surgical and diagnostic procedures.

In addition to the above indications, the enema is recommended for allergic skin rashes, bad breath, frequent acute respiratory diseases, weakness and increased fatigue. The enema also promotes more effective weight loss.

Despite its wide therapeutic effect, the enema has a number of contraindications:

  • Painful sensations in the abdomen of unknown etiology.
  • Elevated body temperature.
  • Inguinal, abdominal hernia.
  • Diabetes and headaches.
  • Rectal prolapse.
  • Appendicitis.
  • Gastrointestinal and uterine bleeding.
  • Intestinal tumors.
  • Cracks and ulcerative lesions of the intestine.
  • Colitis, proctitis, sigmoiditis.
  • The first days after abdominal surgery.

In order to cleanse the intestines, you need to buy a rubber bulb or Esmarch's mug (a water heater with a flexible hose and removable tips) at the pharmacy. Boiled water of 36-38°C is also needed for the procedure. Warm liquid relieves intestinal spasms and facilitates defecation. If constipation is atonic, then it is better to use cool water of 20°C. You can add pharmaceutical preparations or solutions of medicinal herbs, oils to the liquid.

Algorithm for performing an enema:

  1. The procedure is best done in the bathroom. Esmarch's mug or rubber bulb is filled with liquid. The mug must be suspended so that the liquid can enter the intestines. The tip of the enema should be lubricated with a thick cream for easy insertion into the anus.
  2. For ease of introduction of the liquid, you can take a knee-elbow position or lie on your right side, bending your legs to your chest. As soon as the liquid is introduced into the intestine, you should lie on your right side for 15-20 minutes.
  3. After the time has passed, you need to empty your bowels. To better remove water, you can massage your stomach a little. After the procedure, the medical device should be washed well.

The volume of the enema and its frequency depend on the severity of the disease. For complete bowel cleansing, the enema is administered until the outgoing water is clear and free of impurities. It should be remembered that frequent bowel cleansing with an enema disrupts the microflora, stretches the rectum and weakens its muscles. The procedure can lead to dysbacteriosis, and weakness of the intestinal muscles can lead to poor stool passage, i.e. chronic constipation.
