The highly effective contraceptive Laktinet is produced by the Hungarian company Gedeon Richter OJSC.

Indications Lactinet

Laktinet is an oral contraceptive.

Release form

Release form Laktinet - tablets, convex on both sides, round in shape., The surface of the tablet is covered with a protective film of white color. On one side there is a letter symbol "D", the other side has a digital image - "75".

The tablets are sealed in 28 pieces per blister. Three such blisters are packed in a cardboard box together with the instructions.

The active substance of the drug is desogestrel. One tablet of Laktinet contains 0.075 g of the active substance.

Other chemical compounds of the drug: L-tocopherol, colloidal silicon dioxide, α-tocopherol, lactose monohydrate, stearic acid, potato starch, D-tocopherol, magnesium stearate and povidone K30.

The protective outer layer of the tablet is represented by the following substances: polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, macrogol 3000, opadra II white and talc.

Pharmacodynamics

Laktinet is a hormonal drug whose active chemical ingredients are desogestrel and progestogen.

Laktinet can be safely taken by women who are strictly contraindicated in taking medications with estrogen-containing components.

Desogestrel effectively slows down the ovulation process. Against the background of taking a gestagenic contraceptive, an ovulatory follicle does not form. There is also no increase in the level of progesterone and luteotropic hormone in the blood, which must be present in the middle of the natural course of the menstrual cycle.

At the same time, the active ingredient, acting on the mucous membrane of the cervix, increases its density, which becomes a barrier to the penetration of sperm into the uterus.

During therapy with Lactinet, the percentage of conceptions was only 0.4%.

Laktinet allows to reduce the level of estradiol in blood plasma to values close to the values of the early follicular period. There is also an improvement in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.

Desogestrel is transformed into the metabolite etonogestrel as a result of dehydrogenation and hydroxylation processes.

Etonogestrel is also metabolized to sulfate and glucuronide conjugates.

Pharmacokinetics

Laktinet is quite actively absorbed by the gastrointestinal mucosa. On average, the greatest amount of the active component desogestrel in plasma can be observed after 1.8 hours from the moment of oral administration.

Laboratory and clinical studies have shown that the bioavailability of etonogestrel is 70 percent.

Up to 99% of it combines with placental blood protein.

On average, the half-life of the active substance Laktinet is about 30 hours. This indicator is unchanged, whether it is a single use or long-term use of the drug. A stable hormonal balance in the patient's body is established after four to five days.

The excretion of drug components and their metabolites occurs both through the kidneys with urine (about 3/5 of the amount), and through the intestines with feces (2/5 of the amount).

Dosing and administration

It should be immediately noted that any medication, including Laktinet, is prescribed and prescribed only by a qualified experienced specialist. Pharmacologists have only suggested the recommended method of administration and dosage, and a more specific schedule of administration and dosage adjustment remains with the attending specialist.

Initially, the drug in question was developed for oral administration, washed down with a sufficient amount of liquid. If a woman has not taken other contraceptive drugs for the previous 30 days, then the medication is taken one unit per day. And this first dose is recommended to be combined with the first day of the menstrual cycle. To achieve maximum physiological effectiveness, obstetricians and gynecologists recommend that the patient take the pill every time at the same time of day, observing the time interval between two pill intakes of exactly 24 hours.

If the tablets of one package are finished, it is worth making sure that there is no break in taking the drug. The next day, you need to switch to tablets from another package of the medication.

You should not resort to other contraceptive methods and techniques in parallel when using the drug described in this article.

If it so happens that the first intake of birth control pills occurred within the second to fifth days of the menstrual cycle, which is allowed by doctors, then during the first week (seven days), it is necessary to take other measures to prevent pregnancy in tandem.

If a woman wants to switch to Laktinet after using another oral contraceptive, no problems should arise. The preliminary drug is stopped and the next day at the same time the transition to treatment with the contraceptive discussed in this article begins. In this situation, no additional measures should be taken to maintain contraceptive properties.

If the transition to the drug described in this article occurs after using other contraceptive methods (single-component progestogen-containing contraceptives), then it is recommended to start taking the medication:

  • If the previous injections were contraceptive injections, from the day of the last injection.
  • After removal of the implant, a new oral contraceptive is inserted for the first time on the day following removal.
  • If you have previously used the mini-pill, you can start taking the medication at any time.

But in any case, it is necessary to use additional barrier methods of contraception in parallel with this during the first seven days of the transition.

The use of the drug in question also has its own peculiarities when prescribing the drug in the postpartum period and after an abortion:

  1. If the embryo was removed during the first trimester of pregnancy, then you can start taking Lactinet immediately after the operation. No additional contraceptive measures are required.
  2. In case of childbirth or late termination of pregnancy, against the background of the second trimester of gestation, doctors allow oral contraceptives to be administered only three to four weeks after the event. In case of a later start of contraception, specialists recommend using a barrier method of contraception in parallel with Lactinet during the first week (seven days).
  3. If you had unprotected sex before taking the first pill, you should first make sure that you are not conceiving or postpone taking the drug in question until the first day of your next menstrual cycle.

If one of the doses is missed, but the interval between the two tablets taken is less than 12 hours, then you should immediately take the tablet and the following day take it at the usual time, continuing the schedule. If 36 hours are exceeded, the therapeutic effectiveness of contraception is significantly reduced, and the schedule should be started from scratch.

If the break is more than 12 but less than 36 hours, but for the next seven days, additional forms of contraception should be used together with Laktinet.

If you forgot to take a pill during the first seven days of "treatment", and there was unprotected sexual intercourse during this period, you need to make sure that conception did not occur. And only based on the results of the examination can we talk about further measures.

If a woman starts vomiting three to four hours after taking a pill, she should consult her doctor. It is possible that the absorption rate is reduced and the woman should act as if she missed a dose.

Use Lactinet during pregnancy

It is prohibited to use the hormonal contraceptive Laktinet during pregnancy.

Taking this medicine, especially in high doses, can affect fetal development. Pathological changes mainly affect female embryos, and their development subsequently begins to follow the path of muscularization due to the action of the progestogen included in the drug.

Etonogestrel freely penetrates into mother's milk. And, therefore, it also enters the newborn's body. The quantitative ratio of etonogestrel concentration in blood plasma and milk is 0.87 to 0.55.

Monitoring of breastfed children whose mothers took Laktinet did not show any changes.

Interactions with other drugs

When taking Laktinet simultaneously with inducers of liver microsomal enzymes, the contraceptive in question significantly reduces its pharmacological properties, and uterine bleeding may also be provoked.

Inducers of liver microsomal enzymes include: rifampicin, primidone, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, griseofulvin, barbiturates, carbamazepine, rifabutin, hydantoin derivatives, topiramate, felbamate.

If Laktinet is taken during treatment with systemic antibiotics, the effectiveness of birth control pills decreases. Based on this, during the period of antibacterial therapy (and then the following seven days, for rifampicin this period is 28 days), a barrier method of contraception should also be introduced.

Adsorbents (activated carbon) impair the absorption of Laktinet.
