Ukrainian pharmaceutical company LLC FC Health (Kharkov) is releasing a drug with anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties - Caleflon - onto the drug market. Its international name is Caleflonum. The ATC code of the drug in question is designated as A02X.
The crazy pace of modern cities, "snacks on the go", "quick bites", "dry food". All this cannot but affect our digestive system. Today, gastroenterologists are sounding the alarm. There is practically no person whose stomach has not suffered to one degree or another. The drug Caleflon can come to the aid of doctors in such a situation. It effectively relieves the symptoms of inflammation of the gastric mucosa and heals wounds that have already formed there well. It is worth remembering that self-medication is unacceptable. The drug itself and its dosages should be prescribed by a qualified and experienced specialist. Take care of yourself, watch what and how you eat, then you will not have to seek advice from doctors!
Indications Caleflon
To determine the areas of medicine where the drug Caleflon can be taken, it is necessary to know the pharmacological characteristics and properties of the active ingredient of the drug in question.
Indications for the use of the drug Caleflon are narrowly targeted and are used:
- For healing ulcerative lesions of the gastric mucosa and duodenum.
- To relieve inflammation in the tissues of the digestive tract.
- In gastritis, which is at the stage of chronic progression. Exacerbation of the inflammatory process in the mucous membrane.
Release form
The anti-inflammatory, wound-healing drug can now be found on pharmacy shelves in tablet form – this is not the only form of release of the drug Caleflon. It can also be found in powder form.
The unit of production (tablet) has a dosage and concentration of the active drug substance, which is the extract from the flowers of the medicinal calendula (Calendulae officinalis floridis extract), 100 mg. At the same time, the drug is covered with an easily soluble protective film of a brownish-yellow color with small inclusions. The drug has a slight specific odor.
The package contains ten units of the drug Caleflon.
The powder form of the product (500 g) is packed in a two-liter dark glass container.
Pharmacodynamics
The medicinal product in question, Caleflon, is based on an extract obtained from such plant materials as flowers of the medicinal plant calendula, which belongs to the Asteraceae family.
The composition of natural plant extract is quite impressive. The most significant of them are:
- Flavonoids (isoramnetin, astragalin, hyperoside, quercetin, isoquercetin, glycosides and rutin), which allow a relaxing effect on smooth muscles, thereby stopping spasms. Flavonoids show high anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, effectively monitor the colloidal state of the intercellular substance. Flavonoids improve the conductivity of nerve impulses, participate in the synthesis of cellular collagen. There is no unambiguous opinion, but doctors suggest that these substances are able to stop the development of tumor neoplasms.
- Carotenoids (vitamin A) normalize the amount of cholesterol in the patient's blood.
- Essential oils (alpha-cadinol, T-cadinol, fatty acids), another component of the drug, effectively suppress the development of invading microorganisms, leading to their death.
- Triterpenoids (glycosides AF, monols, diols, triols and a number of others) provide the drug Caleflon with anti-inflammatory properties.
- Water-soluble polysaccharides (arabinogalactans, rhamnoarabinogalactans and a number of others) normalize the state of the capillary-vascular system, reducing wall permeability, and have an anti-inflammatory effect.
- Coumarins are effective in stopping the inflammatory process.
In addition to the already mentioned components of Caleflon, this medicine is rich in many microelements: zinc, selenium, magnesium, molybdenum, copper, potassium, calcium, iron and a number of others. They enrich the medicine with such properties, adding antiviral, immunostimulating characteristics. The medicine effectively strengthens the heart muscle and improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system, prevents the emergence and development of atypical cells, other pathological symptoms.
Caleflon has choleretic properties. The main metabolism occurs in the liver, thanks to the enzymes it produces. Taking this medicine increases the secretory and excretory functions of the liver, activates wound healing by producing collagen.
Pharmacokinetics
In order for the therapy to be as effective as possible, the attending physician prescribing the treatment protocol must operate with knowledge not only of pharmacodynamics, but also of the characteristics of the drug Caleflon in terms of the rate of its absorption by the body and elimination from it.
But to date, the pharmacokinetics of the drug Caleflon has not yet been fully studied.
Dosing and administration
Any pharmacological agent is prescribed in the treatment protocol of various diseases only by a qualified experienced specialist. This also applies to the anti-inflammatory, wound-healing drug Caleflon, which is discussed in this article. The developers of this drug have only suggested the recommended method of administration and dosage. But our body is individual, therefore, in order to achieve maximum efficiency, the attending physician specifies the schedule of administration and adjusts the dosage. Self-prescribing of the drug is unacceptable.
Caleflon is best taken in a single dose of 100-200 mg, three times a day. The recommended time to take the drug is after a meal.
The average duration of the treatment course is three to four weeks; in rare cases, therapy can be extended to six weeks (one and a half months).
Quite often, Caleflon is included in a complex treatment protocol. Along with it, it includes antispasmodics (stopping spasms of smooth muscles and relieving pain symptoms) and antacids - drugs that reduce the level of gastric secretion production, that is, reduce acidity in this organ.

Use Caleflon during pregnancy
The vast majority of pharmaceutical products are prohibited for use by women during pregnancy or breastfeeding after childbirth. Due to established stereotypes, doctors prefer to prescribe alternative methods of relieving the problem, herbal medicines and homeopathy to expectant mothers.
But it is worth remembering that a medicine is a medicine (even one prepared on the basis of a plant component) and one cannot take it irresponsibly. After all, using them in treatment, we count on a positive effect and the expected result, but without the supervision of a specialist, you can get the opposite effect, only worsening your condition.
Therefore, the use of the drug Caleflon during pregnancy is not approved by doctors. This fact is also explained by the fact that there is no objective data and numerous studies that would confirm the safety of the drug, both for the health of the mother and her child.
Medicine today gives a similar answer to women who breastfeed their newborns. If the clinical picture allows, it is worth waiting until the end of lactation. If time is of the essence, treatment should be started, but the baby should be weaned, switching to artificial feeding.
Contraindications
Whatever the medicine considered, it affects the body, achieving its response. This is the basis of the very principle of treatment. But if the medicine (like Caleflon) is taken orally, then it is almost impossible to get by with local targeted influence. Hence the contraindications to the use of the medicine Caleflon, which are not so numerous. These are:
- Increased individual intolerance of the patient's body to one or more components of the medicinal plant marigold.
The following should be taken with special caution:
- The time when a woman is expecting a child.
- Lactation period.
Side effects Caleflon
Due to its pharmacological characteristics and the way it enters the human body, Caleflon, as clinical observations have shown, can cause only minor side effects. Although, due to its naturalness, this drug is well tolerated and absorbed by the body of most people.
When taken internally, the list of side effects is small:
- A bitter taste in the mouth may occur.
- Discomfort in the epigastric region: burning, mild pain symptoms.
- An allergic reaction is possible.
If unpleasant side effects appear, depending on the intensity, the drug Caleflon can be discontinued, but this should only be done by a specialist.
Overdose
Caleflon is an innovative drug that appeared on pharmacy shelves not so long ago, so there are no negative facts that would indicate that an overdose of the drug occurred.
Patients undergoing treatment with this medication may be advised to monitor the doses they take and the schedule of administration more closely. If all the recommendations of the attending physician are followed, there is no need to talk about an overdose.
If any negative symptoms appear, you should inform your doctor about this and he will decide whether to stop taking the drug or just adjust the dosage.
Interactions with other drugs
If the patient has no other health problems and is taking only Caleflon, you just need to monitor your health. This medicine, made from natural plant materials, is well absorbed by the body and does not show any negative symptoms. If this does happen, you need to inform your doctor about it.
But most often, Caleflon is one of the units of complex treatment, which includes more than one drug from different pharmacological groups. Therefore, a specialist prescribing such treatment must be aware of which drugs can be combined into one therapeutic protocol, and which, when taken in tandem, can only worsen the situation.
It is necessary to know the interactions with other drugs and Caleflon. But today, unfortunately, there is no such data, since full-scale studies have not been conducted, and there is insufficient clinical monitoring data.
Doctors only know that the wound-healing and anti-inflammatory drug in question works effectively and without consequences with antispasmodics and antacid drugs.
There is just one "but" when working with antacids. Their introduction should be spaced out over time. The interval between the introduction of Caleflon and the antacid should be maintained at two hours.
Storage conditions
In order for the therapy to give maximum positive shift in stopping the problem, in addition to following all the recommendations of the attending physician, you should know and follow the storage conditions of Caleflon. Incorrect content of the drug will significantly reduce or completely destroy the pharmacological characteristics of the drug, making it unsuitable for treatment.
If all requirements have been met, one can be sure that the effectiveness of the pharmacodynamic parameters of the anti-inflammatory drug in question will remain high enough throughout the entire allotted shelf life indicated by the manufacturer.
Caleflon must be stored under the following storage conditions:
- The premises where the medicine is supposed to be kept must be protected from exposure to direct sunlight.
- The storage temperature should not exceed the range of + 15 to + 25 degrees above zero.
- The medicine must be kept in places that are inaccessible to teenagers and small children.
Shelf life
When entering the drug market, any product of pharmaceutical companies producing this medicine goes on sale with the mandatory indication on the packaging material of the date when this medicine was produced. The second number is the end date, after which the medicine supplied with this instruction should not be used as an effective medicine.
The shelf life of the anti-inflammatory, wound-healing drug Caleflon, prepared on a natural basis, is three years (or 36 months).
