Release form
The drug is available in the following forms: film-coated tablets of 200 mg and 300 mg (10 or 30 pieces per package); 5% gel in 50 g tubes.
Pharmacodynamics
The active substance of the drug Ibuprofen-Norton (isobutylphenylpropionic acid, international name - ibuprofen) affects the synthesis of mediators of pain and inflammatory reactions of the body - prostaglandins - by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which participates in their formation. Due to this, the neurohumoral system stops responding to pain and inflammatory syndromes.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration of Ibuprofen-Norton in tablet form, the active substance is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and enters the bloodstream. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is observed on average 1.5 hours after taking the drug; binding to plasma proteins is 90%. The active substance of the drug penetrates into the cerebrospinal fluid 3 hours after oral administration. The metabolism of the drug occurs in the liver, the metabolic products and their hydroxyl and carboxyl compounds are quickly and completely excreted from the body by the kidneys (with urine).
Ibuprofen-Norton gel, absorbed through the skin, has identical pharmacokinetics.
Dosing and administration
Ibuprofen-Norton is prescribed to adults orally - 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours (during meals). The maximum permissible daily dose is 6 tablets. The dosage for children over 14 years old is the same. For one dose of the drug, children aged 6-12 years are prescribed 7.5 mg of ibuprofen per kilogram of body weight; the maximum permissible daily dose is 30 mg / kg of body weight.
The method of application of this preparation in the form of a gel is external: by applying a thin layer of the preparation to the skin in the area of inflammation, followed by light rubbing (3-4 times during the day). Occlusive dressings are allowed.
Use Ibuprofen-Norton during pregnancy
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is contraindicated.
It has been established that the use of this drug (as well as all NSAIDs of the ibuprofen group) in the last trimester of pregnancy can cause premature closure of the arterial duct in the fetus and the development of pulmonary hypertension in it, and can also lead to a delay in the onset of labor and an increase in its duration.
Contraindications
Ibuprofen-Norton in tablet form is contraindicated for use in cases of hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, allergy to aspirin, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, acute cardiac, renal or hepatic failure, and in children under 6 years of age.
Contraindications to the use of Ibuprofen-Norton in gel form (except for those listed above) are the presence of dermatoses, weeping eczema or open wounds.
Side effects Ibuprofen-Norton
Side effects of Ibuprofen Norton include: headache, nausea, pain in the epigastric region, intestinal disorders (diarrhea or constipation), accompanied by itching, skin rashes, inhibition of platelet aggregation, increased duration of bleeding, increased heart rate, decreased blood pressure.
In the presence of allergies and bronchial asthma, this drug can provoke bronchospasm; in patients with arterial hypertension, soft tissue edema may occur. A significant excess of dosage, as well as prolonged use of Ibuprofen-Norton tablets, can cause arterial thrombosis.
Ibuprofen-Norton in gel form very rarely gives side effects. Most often, burning of the skin at the site of application of the gel occurs in the case of applying an occlusive dressing.
Overdose
Overdose of the drug when used internally or locally is expressed in symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, abdominal pain, drowsiness, visual impairment, convulsions, and decreased blood pressure.
To relieve symptoms of overdose, gastric lavage is performed, activated charcoal is taken orally, and in the case of prolonged convulsions, diazepam is administered intravenously.
Interactions with other drugs
The use of Ibuprofen-Norton simultaneously with acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs is not allowed. When taking antibiotics and Ibuprofen-Norton orally, the side effects of antibiotics increase, and when used in parallel with cardiac glycosides, the therapeutic effect of the latter is neutralized.
Ibuprofen-Norton also reduces the effects of diuretic and hypotensive drugs and increases the likelihood of gastrointestinal bleeding when combined with steroid drugs (hydrocortisone, cortisone, etc.).
