Gorpils is a combination drug containing two active ingredients: amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol. It is commonly used as an antimicrobial to treat and prevent infections in the throat and mouth. These substances have antiseptic properties and can help fight bacteria and fungi that cause infections. Gorpils is available in the form of a spray or gargle.
Indications Gorpils
- Throat diseases such as sore throat, pharyngitis, laryngitis.
- Oral diseases such as stomatitis.
- Prevention of infections after surgery in the throat or oral cavity.
- Symptomatic treatment of pain and irritation in the throat associated with infectious processes.
Release form
Gorpils is available in the form of lozenges or lozenges, which ensures a gradual release of active ingredients upon contact with the mucous membrane of the throat.
Pharmacodynamics
- Antimicrobial action: Amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol have antimicrobial action against a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi and viruses. They help destroy and inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, which helps to quickly relieve the symptoms of throat infections.
- Anti-inflammatory effect: Gorpils may also have an anti-inflammatory effect, reducing inflammation in the throat and oral cavity. This helps reduce pain, irritation and redness of the mucous membranes.
- Analgesic effect: The drug may have a mild analgesic effect, which helps reduce pain and discomfort when swallowing or other movements in the throat.
- Local analgesic effect: It is possible that amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol also have a local analgesic effect by blocking nerve impulses and reducing the sensitivity of pain receptors in the throat and mouth.
- Improving conditions for healing: Due to its antiseptic properties, the drug can help create favorable conditions for tissue healing, accelerating the healing process from infections of the throat and mouth.
Pharmacokinetics
The pharmacokinetics of Gorpils, containing amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol, are generally not as well studied as the pharmacokinetics of the individual active ingredients. However, in general, the pharmacokinetics of these components can be roughly described as follows:
- Amylmetacresol: This is an antiseptic that is commonly used to fight infections in the throat and mouth. After use in the form of a drug, it can be adsorbed in the mucous membrane of the throat and mouth and gradually released.
- 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol: This is another antiseptic often used to treat throat infections. After application, it can also be adsorbed in the mucous membrane of the throat and mouth and gradually released.
In both cases, the metabolism and elimination of these compounds usually occurs through processes associated with metabolism in the body or their excretion in urine.
Dosing and administration
It is recommended to dissolve 1-2 lozenges every 2-3 hours for adults and children over 6 years of age.
Use Gorpils during pregnancy
The use of any medications, including Gorpils, during pregnancy should only be done after consulting a doctor. Although many medications are considered safe for use during pregnancy, it is always best to get advice from your doctor to make sure they are safe for you and your baby.
Gorpils is a combination drug containing antiseptics (amylmetacresol and 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol) and the anesthetic lidocaine. It is important to consider that even though some components of a drug may be considered safe, combination with other ingredients may affect its safety during pregnancy.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity or allergic reaction: People with a known allergy to amylmetacresol, 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol or other components of the drug should avoid its use.
- Children under 6 years of age: Some forms of Gorpils are not recommended for children under 6 years of age without consulting a doctor.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult your doctor before using Gorpils to make sure it is safe.
- Long-term use: Gorpils should not be used for a long time without a doctor's advice, as this may lead to the development of drug resistance or other problems.
- Use in patients with thyroid disease: Use with caution in patients with thyroid disease, as amylmetacresol may affect thyroid function.
Side effects Gorpils
- Rare hypersensitivity or allergic reactions such as itching, skin rash, swelling of the larynx or face.
- Rarely, you may experience a burning sensation, tingling sensation, or other discomfort in the throat or mouth after using the drug.
- There may be an unpleasant aftertaste after dissolving the tablet.
Overdose
Overdosing on any medication can be dangerous and requires immediate medical attention. If you suspect an overdose of Gorpils (amylmetacresol, 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol), it is important to seek immediate medical attention.
Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, confusion, and other unpleasant sensations.
Interactions with other drugs
- Other antimicrobials: When used together with other antimicrobials, especially topical ones, their effects may be enhanced or weakened due to possible competitive action or interaction at the level of adsorption.
- Systemic antiseptics and antibiotics: Although Gorpils is applied topically, in some cases systemic exposure may occur due to the absorption of its components into the bloodstream through the mucous membrane. In such cases, it is important to be careful when using systemic antiseptics and antibiotics to prevent possible unwanted interactions.
- Other topical medicinal products: When using Gorpils concomitantly with other topical medicinal products for the treatment of throat or oral infections, the possibility of interaction or competitive action between the active ingredients should be considered.
- Medicines that reduce gastric acidity: This may be important when using dosage forms of Gorpils that dissolve or are adsorbed in the mucous membrane, as changes in acidity may affect their effectiveness.
