Hexicon is a medicine that has a disinfectant and antiseptic effect. Interacting with the cell structures of pathogenic bacteria, the drug disrupts their vital activity, slows down the development of microbes and promotes the death of pathogenic microflora.

Thanks to the use of different dosage forms of the drug in gynecology, it becomes possible to effectively destroy pathogenic bacteria and prevent various STDs.

Indications Hexicon

Suppositories (and in addition vaginal tablets, medicinal solution, and gel) are used in the following situations:

  • for the prevention of various STDs that develop under the influence of microflora sensitive to the influence of the drug;
  • elimination of inflammatory processes in the female genital area;
  • in the prevention of inflammation or infections in the genital tract during the period before gynecological operations, abortions, intrauterine examinations, and also before childbirth, etc.

Hexicon D suppositories are used to eliminate gynecological diseases in children.

The solution can be additionally prescribed for disinfection of various wound lesions of a purulent nature, as well as infected burns. In urological, surgical, and gynecological practice, it can be used in the treatment of infections affecting the mucous membranes and skin surface.

In dentistry, the medicine is prescribed for rinsing in the treatment of gingivitis, aphthous stomatitis, inflammation affecting periodontal tissues, and in addition, the terminal sections of the respiratory ducts.

The gel is additionally prescribed to eliminate inflammations of dental, gynecological or urological nature. In addition, it is used to treat infected areas of the skin.

Pharmacodynamics

The active element of the medicine is chlorhexidine. It has a powerful disinfectant effect; sensitivity to it is demonstrated by a large number of microbes, including gram-positive and -negative bacteria, as well as herpes and protozoan viruses.

The drug demonstrates activity against pale treponema, gonococci, ureaplasma, gardnerella with chlamydia, trichomonas with bacteroides fragilis and herpesvirus type 2 (HSV-2).

Hexicon has a weak effect on some strains of pseudomonads and proteus. Bacterial spores, fungi with viruses and acid-resistant bacteria are resistant to it.

Chlorhexidine provides the drug with some advantages over other antiseptics and antimicrobial drugs. Among the properties of this component:

  • does not have a destructive effect on the natural microflora of the female genitalia, and does not affect the vital activity of lactobacilli;
  • does not lead to the development of addiction or resistance to its effects in sensitive bacteria (even in the case of repeated use of the drug);
  • can be prescribed to nursing mothers, as well as pregnant women;
  • maintains active action (albeit in smaller volumes) in the presence of pus or bloody discharge.

The effectiveness of the suppositories is also determined by the characteristics of the elements they contain: polyethylene oxide types 1500 and 400. These components contribute to the uniform distribution of the active element along the mucous membrane, and in addition, its deeper penetration into the tissues.

At the same time, the polyethylene oxide base promotes dehydration of pathogenic microbes, as well as cleansing the mucous membrane from the products of bacterial activity that accumulate on it.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and in addition through the mucous membranes with the skin surface when applied locally. Systemic absorption after the introduction of vaginal tablets is extremely low.

In case of accidental ingestion of 0.3 g of the drug, the peak level is observed after 30 minutes and is equal to 0.206 μg/l.

Elimination of the drug occurs mainly with intestinal contents (90%). Renal excretion is less than 1% of the substance.

Dosing and administration

Use of suppositories.

Suppositories are administered intravaginally.

For treatment, it is necessary to insert 1 suppository twice a day for 7-10 days. If necessary, this course can be repeated after 20 days.

To prevent the occurrence of STDs, it is necessary to insert 1 suppository after a maximum of 2 hours after unprotected sexual contact.

Hexicon D suppositories are used in a similar way.

Use of the drug in gel form.

When eliminating inflammations of a gynecological or urological nature, it is necessary to treat the affected areas with gel twice a day. The duration of such therapy ranges from 7 to 10 days.

Dermatological infections should be eliminated by treating the infected areas with a thin layer of gel - the procedure is carried out 2-3 times a day. The duration of such treatment is determined by the clinical picture.

When treating dental diseases, the medicine is used in the form of applications - 2-3 times a day. The duration of each procedure is 1-3 minutes. The duration of the entire course is selected taking into account the existing clinical indications.

Method of using the medicinal solution.

The medicine is used locally in the form of irrigation, applications or rinses, as well as externally. When performing the procedure, it is necessary to treat the infected area of the mucous membrane or skin with a portion of 5-10 ml of the drug for a maximum of 3 minutes. This procedure is performed 2-3 times a day (treatment with the solution can be carried out using a tampon or using the irrigation procedure).

To prevent the development of STIs, the medication is recommended to be used within a maximum of 2 hours from the moment of unprotected sexual intercourse.

Using the nozzle that is equipped with the bottle with the solution, the medicine is inserted into the urethra or into the vagina. The size of the administered portion for a man is 2-3 ml, and for a woman - 1-2 ml (urethra area) and 5-10 ml (vaginal area). In this case, it is necessary to hold the nozzle for 2-3 minutes.

In addition, it is necessary to treat the pubic skin with the medicine, along with the inner thighs, as well as the genitals. It is recommended to refrain from urinating for 2 hours after the procedure.

In case of an inflammatory process developing in the urethra (also with the development of prostatitis against its background), a combined treatment is required, supplemented by injection of the solution into the urethra for a period of 10 days (once or twice a day in a dosage of 2-3 ml). It is recommended to perform this procedure every other day.

To eliminate diseases in the mouth area, rinsing is required. This procedure should be carried out 3-4 times a day. The dose of the medicine required for 1 procedure is 5-10 ml.

Using vaginal tablets.

Before inserting into the vagina, the tablet must be moistened in plain water. The daily dose is determined by the diagnosis and is 1-2 tablets. The course duration is 7-10 days.

When preventing the occurrence of STDs, the Hexicon tablet, like the medication in the form of a suppository, must be administered no more than 2 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse.

Use Hexicon during pregnancy

Of the existing dosage forms of the drug, only vaginal tablets are prohibited for use during breastfeeding or pregnancy. Hexicon vaginal suppositories are considered to be very effective and also safe for women and the fetus/child.

The use of vaginal tablets is permitted only in situations where the potential benefit from their use for the woman is more likely than the risk of consequences for the fetus.

The medicine in the form of suppositories is very often prescribed to pregnant women to eliminate gynecological pathologies or prevent them. Its safety is due to the fact that the medicine is applied locally. The absence of negative consequences is confirmed by many years of experience in using the drug.

Due to the local effect, the active element of the drug almost does not penetrate into the bloodstream and therefore does not threaten the normal development of the fetus. This allows the use of suppositories at any stage of pregnancy.

The drug effectively affects the activity of pathogenic bacteria that cause the development of gynecological diseases, but does not destroy the natural vaginal microflora.

In the 1st and 2nd trimesters, such properties allow the drug to be used to prevent the occurrence of STDs (including trichomoniasis with chlamydia, as well as syphilis with gonorrhea, or ureaplasmosis and genital herpes), and at the same time to eliminate colpitis with vaginitis, exo- and endocervicitis, as well as bacterial vaginosis.

In the 3rd trimester (also before childbirth), the drug is used to prevent inflammation and infections directly during childbirth, as well as after it.

Suppositories are also prescribed to eliminate cervical erosion. It is most appropriate to use them in situations where ulceration develops due to the activity of bacteria that cause STDs or due to inflammatory gynecological diseases.

Hexicon is often prescribed to pregnant women to eliminate the bacterial form of vaginosis - in this case, pathogenic microbes predominate inside the vagina, and the number of lactic acid microorganisms (lactobacilli) is reduced or completely absent.

Contraindications

The main contraindication is intolerance to the components of the drug.

The solution is prohibited to be prescribed for dermatitis.

Side effects Hexicon

The use of suppositories most often causes the appearance of symptoms of allergy, burning and itching in the vaginal area. These symptoms do not require special therapy, they disappear on their own, after the end of the treatment course.

Complications from the use of the solution occur only in isolated cases. They usually manifest themselves in the form of itching, as well as signs of allergy (they disappear after the end of the therapy).

In some patients, the solution may cause stickiness of the hands (for a maximum of 3-5 minutes) or dry skin on the hands, as well as photosensitivity and the development of dermatitis. When rinsing the mouth, tartar deposits, discoloration of the tooth enamel, and taste disorders may be observed. The same symptoms may be caused by the medicinal gel.

Interactions with other drugs

The effectiveness of the drug is potentiated when combined with ethyl alcohol.

It is prohibited to use the medicine simultaneously with intravaginally administered drugs that contain iodine.

External sanitation of the genitals does not affect the tolerability and effectiveness of the suppositories, since they are used intravaginally.

The drug is not compatible with anionic detergents (such as sodium lauryl sulfate, saponins, and carboxymethylcellulose), and also with soap. When combined with soap, chlorhexidine is inactivated, so before using the drug, soap residues must be completely washed off the mucous membranes and skin surface.

The combination of Hexicon with drugs from the cationic category is permitted.

Shelf life

Hexicon can be used for 2 years from the date of manufacture of the drug.

Application for children

Suppositories and gel for children should be prescribed with caution. The most suitable form of the drug for them is Hexicon D suppositories.

Analogues

The drug's analogues in terms of composition (gel and solution) are Amident (local solution), and also Chlorhexidine in the form of an alcohol-based solution, a concentrate from which a medicinal solution is made, and a spray.

The following medications have the greatest similarity in the mechanism of medicinal action: Depantol and Bepanten creams, as well as Citeal solution and Lavasept concentrate for solutions.

Tablets and suppositories of the drug are similar in composition to tablets and suppositories Chlorhexidine.

The mechanisms of therapeutic action similar to those of Hexicon suppositories are found in such drugs as Hypozol aerosol, Betadine, Iodoxide and Iodovidone suppositories, as well as Trichomonacid tablets, Macmiror (in the form of capsules, suppositories, tablets and cream) and vaginal suppositories containing eucalimin or trichomonacid. This group also includes Vagiflor and Laktozhinal capsules, Povidone-Iodine suppositories, Daphnegin cream and Furazolidone (in the form of tablets, powder and granules for the manufacture of a medicinal suspension).

Reviews

Hexicon receives quite a lot of reviews regarding its medicinal action. There are both positive and negative opinions about the drug on forums. Among the positive properties of the drug:

  • the speed of drug action and the effectiveness of the drug;
  • possibility of use for prevention;
  • ease of use of the medication;
  • safe for use by breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women;
  • softness of the effect, as well as hypoallergenic properties.

Negative comments regarding suppositories are usually related to the fact that the inserted candle begins to gradually leak out, thereby causing discomfort, and in addition to this, with the presence of side effects - such as burning and itching, as well as the occurrence of bloody discharge.

Use of suppositories during pregnancy.

Hexicon suppositories, according to the patients themselves and doctors, are considered very effective and, most importantly, safe for use during pregnancy. In addition, in the early stages it sometimes cannot be replaced by any other medication.

The medicine is used at various stages of pregnancy, and also for prevention before childbirth. Based on various reviews, it can be found that the drug helped some women, but there are also those who, after a certain period of time, needed repeated therapy.

There is also information about the lack of results after using suppositories and even more - about the development of allergies to their use. Some patients complained about the occurrence of vaginal discharge of a pinkish hue (in such cases, it is necessary to consult a doctor).

Some negative comments regarding the use of Hexicon in pregnant women are related to the heating of the suppositories inside the vagina, which causes them to melt and leak out - sometimes this is mistaken for the discharge of water or a plug.

To ensure a more comfortable condition, doctors recommend using daily or (if necessary) regular (used during menstruation) pads during therapy with Hexicon suppositories.
