Essentiale is a drug whose main effect is to normalize the metabolism of carbohydrates and lipids in the body. The drug is prescribed to improve liver function, the cardiovascular system, and metabolic processes. But many dermatologists use Essentiale for psoriasis, especially in severe or generalized cases of the disease.

Essentiale for psoriasis can be used both in ampoules for injections and in capsules for internal use. The most effective treatment regimen involves injections of the drug for several months, and only then the patient switches to taking capsules. The treatment is long-term, but often allows to extend the period of remission for several months.

Does Essentiale help with psoriasis?

Success in treating psoriasis depends to a large extent on how well the liver performs its cleansing function. This is precisely what the use of Essentiale for psoriasis is based on.

In patients suffering from psoriasis, liver dysfunction may manifest itself in such signs as cholestasis, cytolysis, hepatocyte failure and immune inflammation. Essentiale protects the liver from such disorders: the drug contains vitamins and phospholipids that are important for the body:

  • riboflavin – lactoflavin, vitamin B2;
  • thiamine – vitamin B1;
  • cyanocobalamin – vitamin B12;
  • pyridoxine – vitamin B6;
  • α-tocopherol acetate – vitamin E;
  • nicotinamide – nicotinic acid, vitamin PP.

Essentiale for psoriasis can be used in the following dosage forms:

  • capsules containing 0.3 g of phospholipids;
  • ampoules with liquid (5 ml) containing 0.25 g of phospholipids.

Electrolyte solutions are not used to dilute the contents of the ampoules before injection: the medicine is diluted with the blood of the patient to whom the drug will be administered (1:1). The best effect is observed from the use of Essentiale in combination with photochemotherapy (or phototherapy).

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of the preparation is the EPL substance – a highly purified fraction of phosphatidylcholine. The main active ingredient representing this fraction is dilinoleoylphosphatidylcholine.

The EPL substance is considered to be a defining structural component of cell walls and organelles. Without it, it is impossible to imagine differentiation, division and restoration of cell structures.

Essentiale in psoriasis improves the function of cell walls, intracellular respiration, oxidation reactions, affects the binding of intracellular respiration enzymes inside the mitochondria and the energy metabolism of the cell.

According to kinetic and pharmacological studies, up to 5% of metabolites leave the body with feces.

Dosing and administration

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, there are two generally accepted treatment regimens for psoriasis using Essentiale:

  1. The course of therapy begins with taking 2 capsules of Essentiale three times a day for 14 days. After that, they switch to injections of the drug: 10 intravenous infusions of 5 ml of the drug, in combination with phototherapy. Taking capsules and injections alternate, with a total treatment duration of 2 months.
  2. The course of therapy begins with 10 days of intravenous infusions of the drug, once a day. Then, for 14 days, Essentiale capsules are taken, 2 pcs. three times a day. After that, for two months, they switch to taking capsules in a dosage of 2 pcs. in the morning and evening.

From the proposed schemes it is clear that the treatment of psoriasis with Essentiale is usually long-term. However, given the complexity of the disease and its resistance to treatment, sometimes it is necessary to be patient and complete the proposed course. According to reviews, a positive result at the end of the treatment is almost guaranteed.
