Enzistal helps improve digestive processes; it is a polyenzyme medicine. It is a complex medicine containing enzymes that facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates and proteins with fats. At the same time, it also helps the full absorption of these elements in the small intestine.
Due to the medicinal effect exerted by the therapeutic agent, the function of the gastrointestinal tract improves, and in addition, digestive processes are stabilized.
Indications Enzistal
It is used in the following cases:
- replacement treatment of moderate or mild disorders of the exocrine activity of the pancreas, arising due to chronic pancreatitis (excluding situations when there is an exacerbation of the chronic form of the disease);
- improvement of digestive processes in case of IBS, ulcerative colitis, and also after gastric resection procedure;
- bloating and isolated cases of diarrhea of non-infectious etiology;
- improving the digestion process in people with healthy gastrointestinal tract function when the normal nutritional regime is disrupted (eating fried, fatty or unusual foods, eating large amounts of food or eating irregularly);
- disorders of masticatory activity and conditions in which prolonged immobilization is observed;
- preparation for ultrasound or X-ray procedures in the peritoneum;
- as an additional component to increase the efficiency of absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and certain medications (including sulfonamides, PAS and antibiotics).
Release form
The medicinal substance is released in tablets - 10 pieces in a cell pack; in a box - 2 or 8 such packs.
Pharmacodynamics
Bile extract helps fat emulsification, and also improves the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and fats, and stimulates the activity of lipase.
The enzyme hemicellulose helps break down plant-based fiber.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is not absorbed and does not affect the intestinal lumen. The tablet has an acid-resistant coating that prevents the inactivation of the drug enzymes under the influence of gastric hydrochloric acid.
The shell dissolves, releasing enzymes within the small intestine (under the influence of an alkaline environment). This is the optimal way for the development of enzyme activity.
Dosing and administration
The drug should be taken 1 tablet with food or immediately after it (washed down with plain water). There is no need to chew the tablet. If necessary, the portion can be increased to 2 tablets.
The duration of the therapeutic cycle can be several days (in case of problems with digestive processes arising from violations of the diet) or several months or years (if regular replacement treatment is required).
Use Enzistal during pregnancy
There is too little information regarding the safety of taking Enzistal during breastfeeding or pregnancy. It can be prescribed during these periods only in situations where the probable benefit outweighs the possible risks of developing negative consequences.
Contraindications
Main contraindications:
- severe intolerance caused by elements of the drug or pancreatic enzymes of animal origin;
- hepatitis in the active phase;
- jaundice of a mechanical nature;
- intestinal obstruction of an obstructive nature;
- active phase of pancreatitis or exacerbation of its chronic form.
Side effects Enzistal
A single dose of the drug causes diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, constipation, epigastric discomfort, vomiting, abdominal pain and changes in stool consistency. Sometimes colic inside the intestine, colic-like pain, intestinal obstruction and irritation in the area around the anus may occur (especially in the case of taking very large doses of the drug).
Signs of intolerance may occur, including anaphylactic symptoms, itching, sneezing, urticaria, rash, lacrimation, Quincke's edema and redness of the epidermis.
Taking very large doses of the medication may cause an increase in blood uric acid levels.
Irritation of the oral mucosa may occur, especially when large doses are administered.
Long-term use of large doses of the drug can provoke hyperuricosuria.
It is important to take into account that side symptoms associated with the digestive system can also be caused by the underlying pathology.

Overdose
Long-term use of high doses may provoke the occurrence of hyperuricosuria or -uricemia. In addition, the side effects of the drug may increase.
The drug is discontinued, symptomatic measures are taken, and adequate hydration is ensured.
Interactions with other drugs
Enzistal helps to more effectively absorb antibiotics, fat-soluble vitamins, PAS and sulfonamides.
Combination of pancreatin and vitamin K antagonists, anticoagulants or aspirin leads to weakening of the effect of these drugs. In addition, when combined with pancreatin, the effectiveness of monoamine non-selective inhibitors also decreases.
Administration together with m-anticholinergics potentiates the anticholinergic activity of these agents.
Use of the drug may lead to a decrease in the absorption of vitamin B9 and a weakening of the antidiabetic properties of acarbose.
In case of long-term use, the drug weakens the absorption of Fe, which is why it is not recommended to use it with iron substances.
Combination with magnesium- or calcium-containing antacids may cause a weakening of the therapeutic effect of Enzistal.
Use with alcohol-containing substances or tannin may cause a decrease in the medicinal activity of the drug.
When using cimetidine, the effect of the drug is potentiated.
