Candidiasis, or folk thrush, is a fungal disease, the development of which is associated with the active reproduction of habitual inhabitants of our organism - fungi of the genus Candida. In a healthy, strong body they do not show themselves, and people do not even suspect they exist. Reproduction of the fungus and the associated appearance of candidiasis symptoms are observed in those cases when the immunity of a person for any reason is reduced. And since the fungus can be located in different parts of the body: in the mouth, in the intestines, on the genitals, then treatment of the disease must be all-encompassing. And this action can only have tablets from candidiasis in combination with external drugs.

Alternative means in the form of herbal decoctions, various ointments and solutions used for douching, rinsing and enemas only have a temporary effect. Their use is expedient for preventive purposes or as part of complex therapy.

Local treatment with pharmacy ointments, creams, solutions and vaginal tablets is also not always possible and effective, therefore, to prevent further development of the fungus, it is more expedient to use tablets from general candidiasis. But the joint use of local drugs and drugs of general action, aimed at combating the fungus, helps to successfully combat this not so dangerous, how unpleasant disease, wherever it is localized.

Local remedies for candidiasis

Treatment of candidiasis with local antifungal agents has its pros and cons. Since these drugs do not actually enter the body when applied to the skin and mucous membranes, the side effects from their use are incomparable with the side effects of oral tablets. Usually they are limited to local allergic reactions in the form of redness, itching or burning in the area of application.

Another advantage of using these tools is their speed. The main symptoms of thrush, such as itching and curdled discharge, are already gone since the first days of using local remedies. However, to completely destroy the fungus in order to avoid remission, doctors recommend a full course of treatment, which is usually not less than 10 days.

To the pluses of local drugs can be attributed and the universality of these funds. For example, sprays, ointments and candidiasis creams are great for women with this problem, as well as for men who are also susceptible to this disease, and are often carriers because of their sexual needs.

To the disadvantages of local remedies in the form of creams, ointments and suppositories can be attributed to unsightly tracks that they leave on their underwear. The same applies to female vaginal tablets from candidiasis.

But the main disadvantage of local remedies is their insufficient effectiveness in severe forms of candidiasis. If the mild form of the disease is largely completely cured after a two-week use of local remedies, then a severe form with a tendency to relapse requires complex treatment with generic drugs.

Vaginal tablets against candidiasis

Women in this regard are lucky, because taking into account the special structure of female genital organs, the pharmaceutical science has developed and released into production a number of special tablets of a convenient oblong form for insertion into the vagina in the framework of antifungal therapy.

These tablets from candidiasis have the following indications for use :

  • Light forms of genital candidiasis in women
  • Prophylaxis of candidiasis
  • In the complex therapy of severe forms of thrush.

The method of using vaginal tablets is quite simple: a slightly water-soaked tablet is injected into the vagina by means of an applicator or fingertip, and the doses of such tablets from candidiasis range from 100 to 500 mg, depending on the active ingredient. Usually it is 1 tablet, which is inserted into the vagina before bedtime.

Features of the use of vaginal tablets:

  • During treatment with these drugs, any sexual contact is excluded.
  • During menstruation, the drug is temporarily discontinued.
  • The use of tablets against candidiasis during pregnancy implies strict adherence to the instructions of a gynecologist because some vaginal tablets can cause various disorders during pregnancy and fetal development.
  • The possibility of using vaginal tablets and suppositories during breastfeeding is also worth consulting with a doctor.

Vaginal tablets can be divided into several groups, based on the active substance with an antifungal effect:

  • Introconazole - tablets "Irunin", suppository "Introconazole".
  • Clotrimazole - tablets "Kanizon", "Candid", "Kandibene", "Kandizol", and actually itself "Clotrimazole" in tableted form.
  • Miconazole - tablets "Klion-D 100", suppository "Ginezol".
  • Nystatin - tablets "Terzhinan", "Giterna", "Polizhinaks", "Nystatin".
  • Ketoconazole - tablets (suppositories) "Livarol".
  • Levorin - tablets "Levorin".

Pharmacodynamics of these drugs is that the active substances of vaginal tablets, released into the vagina, adversely affect the cellular level on fungi of the genus Candida, causing their weakening and death, thereby preventing the spread of fungal infection.

Pharmacokinetics. Local application of vaginal tablets causes the penetration of their active substance into various layers of mucous membranes, providing them with an antifungal effect. Depending on the type of active substance, the drug is either not absorbed into the blood, or a small amount of it is supplied to the interior of the body, which does not harm the health. Cases of overdose with these drugs were also not observed due to the peculiarities of their use.

Consider some of these drugs, covering all the groups of vaginal tablets.

Based on intraconazole

"Irunin" is an antifungal agent, produced in the form of vaginal tablets in the form of a ring. The drug is not absorbed into the blood, which allows its long-term use, for example, in the case of a chronic course of the disease. It is used in the amount of 1 tablet at night.

Based on clotrimazole

Despite the cheapness of the active substance and its inadequate activity against many fungi, in the case of Candidiasis, clotrimazole shows sufficient effectiveness. In part, this is due to a fairly large number of different drugs based on it.

"Kanison" - vaginal tablet oblong form of 100 mg with a 6-day course of treatment. The active substance is clotrimazole.

Candide - vaginal tablets of 100 or 500 mg each, rounded at one end, based on clotrimazole. Treatment with 100 mg tablets is carried out somewhere for a week. Tablets 500 mg provide for a single use. This dose is considered sufficient for the course of treatment of acute forms and for the prevention of the disease.

"Kandizol" - vaginal tablets of 100, 200 and 500 mg. The duration of the drug depends on the dosage. For tablets of 100 mg, the course of treatment is 6 days, 200 mg for 3 days, 500 mg for 1 day.

"Kandibene" - biconvex oblong vaginal tablets from candidiasis for 100 and 200 mg with a course of therapy, respectively, 6 and 3 days.

"Clotrimazole" - oblong tablets, rounded at one end, intended for intravaginal use. Dosage of 100 mg. Therapy is carried out according to 2 schemes: 1 tablet once a day before bedtime for 6 days or 2 tablets twice a day for a course of 3 days.

Clotrimazole, along with the side effects inherent in intraoconazole, can have other side effects, such as headache and discomfort when urinating. It is undesirable to use vaginal products on its basis and in persons under 12 years of age.

Shelf life vaginal preparations with clotrimazole is 36 months storage at room temperature (25 to about C).

The drug also has a large bunch of side effects : local reactions (irritation of mucous and itching, increased secretions with odor), digestive and caloric disturbances, changes in urine color, changes in blood composition, headaches, allergic reactions, etc.

Vaginal tablets with nystatin are often supplemented with a broad-spectrum antibiotic. These are effective tablets from candidiasis of topical application with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal and destroying effect on the simplest microorganisms in the human body.

Nystatin is produced and actually in pure form in the form of suppositories with the same name. Suppositories "Nystatin" are available for both vaginal and rectal administration (with intestinal candidiasis).

As for interaction with other drugs, nystatin-based drugs should not be combined with drugs containing clotrimazole, since in this case the therapeutic effect of the latter is significantly reduced.

Tablets from candidiasis for oral use

As already mentioned, tablets with local effects on the fungus cure severe forms of candidiasis, especially with the spread of the gastrointestinal tract, it is simply impossible. Here we receive help from tablets from candidiasis of a wide spectrum of action, which are introduced into the body through the mouth. Usually, these tablets contain the same active substances as the above-mentioned vaginal suppositories.

An exception is fluconazole-based drugs, which, like other antifungal agents, destroy fungi at the cellular level, preventing them from growing and spreading, but less toxic to the body than other substances with a similar effect. Pharmacodynamics of drugs with fluconazole is similar to that of drugs with other antifungal active substances.

It is a broad spectrum antiseptic with a noticeable antifungal and antiviral effect. Produced in the form of a solution (spray) and ointment.

For babies with candidiasis of the oral mucosa, tablets from candida "Nystatin" and "Candide" are more suitable. But since the use of drugs in tablets in children is difficult, they are prescribed the above-mentioned funds in the form of drops and ointments, which are applied to a gauze swab designed for wiping the baby's mouth.

An overdose of the drug causes an increase in side effects associated with the gastrointestinal tract, as well as dizziness and weakness.

The shelf life of "Thermicon" at room temperature is 3 years. The shelf - life of drugs from candidiasis is an indicator of not only the effectiveness, but also comparative safety for human health, therefore, it should not be neglected.

In addition to the above, there are other drugs from thrush, the expediency of appointment is determined by the attending physician. From the patient it is required only to strictly follow the doctor's recommendations, and therefore use tablets from candidiasis for the intended purpose, adhere to the necessary dosage, multiplicity and duration of treatment, not stopping taking drugs only because of the disappearance of the symptoms of the disease, which is fraught with relapse and the transition of the disease to chronic form.
