Release form

Dekazol is available in the form of an aerosol spray in a canister, with the release of a white foamy substance. The contents of one canister are:

  • the active ingredient decamethoxin (in the amount of 52 mg dry weight);
  • additional components: ethanol, Glycerin, synthetic alcohol (in the form of fatty primary fractions) or cytostearyl alcohol, polysorbate 80, purified water and freons.

Pharmacodynamics

When directly in contact with spermatozoa, Decazol exhibits a significant spermicidal effect, which is explained by its damaging effect on the ultrastructure of male germ cells.

The medicine has an antimicrobial effect on pathogenic microorganisms in the vagina. This effect is most directed at gram (+) coccal and rod-shaped bacteria. The drug is less effective against gram (-) microorganisms and candidal fungi. Dekazol inhibits the development of trichomonads somewhat weaker than metronidazole or trichomonacid.

The degree of contraceptive effect of the drug is estimated at 96-98%. The monthly cycle and hormone levels do not change when using the drug.

Dekazol has a positive effect in the treatment of inflammatory processes in the vagina of non-gonococcal origin.

Pharmacokinetics

The active component of the medication does not enter the systemic circulation, acting exclusively externally.

Dosing and administration

Immediately before using Decazol, shake the can, remove the protective cap, put the supplied nozzle on the valve mechanism, which should then be inserted deeper into the vaginal cavity (lying on your back) and press on the nozzle body.

The dose of the medicine is determined by the duration of pressure. Usually, 1 second is used per unit of dosage. Sexual intercourse is allowed immediately after application of the drug. The duration of the effect of Dekazol from the moment of administration is up to 180 minutes.

Typically, the aerosol mass is used immediately before each sexual contact, regardless of the day or phase of the menstrual cycle.

In case of repeated sexual contacts, the drug is administered before the start of each contact.

The maximum duration of regular use of Decazol as a contraceptive is up to 2 or 3 months.

For preventive and therapeutic purposes in inflammatory processes of the vaginal mucosa, the drug is used as an independent treatment, or in combination with conventional antimicrobial drugs from 2 to 4 times a day for a week. In the treatment of trichomonas and yeast colpitis, the drug is prescribed according to the scheme: 2-3 courses of application are carried out, each of which lasts 7-10 days. The dose of the drug remains unchanged - 1 sec.

When using Dekazol, the external genitalia should be washed only with clean running water 120 minutes before sexual intercourse and 120 minutes after it. Soap and other detergents should not be used, as they can destroy the active substance of the drug.
