Pharmacodynamics
Pharmacodynamics allows to determine the localization and mechanisms of active substances of the drug, as well as their significance and effects when exposed to various factors. D-Panthenol is a drug that helps improve tissue regeneration abilities and is used for external use.
Dexpanthenol is a derivative of panthenic acid, which is a water-soluble vitamin of group B. This substance is necessary for fat, carbohydrate and protein metabolism of the skin. The substance plays an important role in gluconeonesis and acetylation processes. It helps to release energy from carbohydrates, promotes the breakdown and synthesis of fatty acids, the synthesis of steroid hormones, the synthesis of sterions and acetylcholine.
To maintain normal epithelial functions, the pharmacodynamics of D-Panthenol is represented by pantothenic acid. When the skin and tissues are damaged, the body experiences a shortage of this substance. Pantothenic acid in D-Panthenol stimulates skin regeneration, increases the strength of collagen fibers and normalizes metabolism at the cellular level. It also has anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and regenerating properties. Excipients that are part of the ointment and cream significantly improve the therapeutic properties of D-Panthenol.
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetics allows you to accurately assess the dynamics and stay of a drug and its metabolites in the body. That is, the pharmacokinetics of a drug allows you to study medicinal substances, due to the effect of which you can develop an accurate dosing method and duration of use of the drug.
Low molecular weight and low polarity make it possible for the drug to affect all layers of the skin when it penetrates. Thus, when D-Panthenol is applied locally, the drug is absorbed very quickly and becomes pantothenic acid, which is bound to plasma proteins. When D-Panthenol is applied, the drug is absorbed very quickly through the mucous membrane and skin, penetrates into damaged tissues and promotes increased metabolism of pantothenic acid.
Dosing and administration
The method of application and dosage of the medicine depend on the disease that D-Panthenol should cure. Thus, for the treatment of dermatitis, diaper rash, bedsores, mucous membrane defects and when caring for the mammary glands, D-Panthenol ointment or cream is used one or more times a day, depending on the doctor's recommendations and the complexity of the disease. If D-Panthenol is used to treat cracks in the nipples of the breast, then it is necessary to make compresses and ointments.
As for the choice of cream or ointment for use, everything is determined by the nature and characteristics of the surface to which the medicinal D-Panthenol is applied. So, for dry skin, ointment is recommended, as it contains a high percentage of fat and is used to treat cracks in the skin and dry skin. But for wet wounds and burns, it is recommended to use cream, as it does not contain fat. The cream is very easy to rub in, so it is convenient for use in painful burns.
Doses of D-Panthenol - the substance is applied in a thin layer to the affected area, two to four times a day. If the ointment is used on an infected surface, it is recommended to treat the affected area with an antiseptic before using D-Panthenol. Nursing mothers should lubricate the nipples of the breast after each feeding of the baby to prevent the formation of wounds and cracks on the chest. But infants should be smeared with D-Panthenol after water procedures and each change of linen.

Use D-Panthenol during pregnancy
Use during pregnancy is absolutely safe and permitted. The drug does not have a negative impact on the development of the child, either in the early stages of pregnancy or in the last months of gestation.
The only caution that pregnant women should take when using the substance is individual intolerance to the substances that are part of the drug. But do not forget that any use of drugs is not recommended during pregnancy, so if possible, replace D-Panthenol with safe treatment using traditional medicine methods.
Contraindications
Contraindications for use are based on intolerance to substances that are part of the drug. Also, the use of the substance is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to dexpanthenol, auxiliary components of the drug and pantothenic acid.

Side effects D-Panthenol
Side effects are very rare, this happens with individual intolerance to the drug. The drug can provoke local allergic reactions.
Also, side effects include:
- The appearance of itching
- Small rash on the skin
- Skin dermatitis
- Erythema
- Eczema
- Hives
In medical practice, there have been isolated cases where the use of D-Panthenol caused side effects.
Overdose
Overdose may cause a short-term and minor allergic reaction. But due to low absorption, i.e. the drug's absorption into the skin, overdose is impossible.
Theoretically, if you take a large amount of the drug internally, it can cause dyspepsia. In this case, symptomatic treatment is provided, that is, the whole process is reversible.

Interactions with other drugs
Interaction with other drugs is allowed. However, special attention should be paid to the components of the interacting drugs. Since the slightest intolerance to any substance can cause a severe allergic reaction.
To prevent this from happening, before using D-Panthenol with other drugs, consult your doctor about drug interactions and reactions to your body.
Storage conditions
Storage conditions are standard for drugs of this group. The drug should be stored in a place inaccessible to children and in a place protected from high humidity.
One of the storage conditions for D-Panthenol is compliance with the temperature regime. The temperature should not be higher than 25 degrees Celsius. Also, the drug should be stored away from light and direct sunlight.
Shelf life
The shelf life of D-Panthenol, which is set by the manufacturer, for the ointment form of the drug should not exceed 2 years, and for the cream - no more than 18 months.
As soon as the medicine begins to change its color or consistency, it must be disposed of. Since this indicates that D-Panthenol has lost its medicinal properties due to an expired shelf life or improper storage conditions of the drug.
