  • The drug is prescribed to adults and children over 3 years old. The daily dosage should not exceed 500 mg, higher doses of 1000 mg are used for hypovitaminosis. The duration of therapy is individual for each patient. Before use, the tablet must be dissolved in a glass of water. The main contraindication for use is thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
  • Side effects occur when the recommendations for using the medication are not followed. As a rule, these are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, urticaria, hemolytic anemia, renal failure, and increased fatigue. The use of high doses during pregnancy and lactation can cause hypovitaminosis in newborns, so the vitamin should only be taken as prescribed by a doctor.

Pharmacodynamics

The mechanism of action of the drug is based on its composition. The pharmacodynamics of the main active ingredient - ascorbic acid (vitamin C), affects the functioning of the entire body. This vitamin is not formed in the human body and comes only with food or drugs. The daily requirement for this substance is 90 mg. This dose eliminates vitamin deficiency and signs of hypovitaminosis.

The active component is responsible for the transfer of electrons to enzymes and their supply of reducing equivalents. The drug is involved in the hydroxylation of proline and lysine residues, hydroxylysine, and the oxidation of folic acid. The drug increases the activity of amidating enzymes, which are responsible for the processing of cholecystokinin and oxytocin. Restores and promotes the absorption of Fe3+ to Fe2+ in the intestine, participates in steroidogenesis in the adrenal glands. The main task of ascorbic acid is the synthesis of proteoglycans, capillary endothelium, and collagen. The drug improves iron secretion by improving the acid-forming function of deferoxamine.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, ascorbic acid is quickly and completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and distributed throughout the body tissues. Pharmacokinetics indicates the maximum concentration of the drug in the intestinal walls, adrenal glands and pituitary gland. Most of the vitamin has a reversible oxidation into dehydroascorbic acid, the biological activity of which corresponds to vitamin C.

The active substance is biotransformed in the liver. The main metabolites are oxalic and 2-sulfuryl-scorbic acids, which are excreted in the urine. The renal threshold of ascorbic acid is 1.4 mg/100 ml. The excretion of the drug is a sign of saturation with vitamin C.

Dosing and administration

If there are indications for the use of Celascon, the doctor selects an individual dosage for each patient. Tablets, powders and effervescent tablets for the preparation of solutions should be taken orally, after meals.

Method of administration and dosage of Celascon

Prevention of hypovitaminosis:

  • Adults – 50-100 mg
  • Children 3-5 years old – 25 mg
  • Children 6-14 years old – 50 mg
  • Adolescents 14-18 years old – 75 mg
  • During pregnancy and lactation – 300 mg for 10-12 days with a further reduction in the dose to 100 mg/day

For therapeutic purposes, take 50-1000 mg of Tselascon, depending on the doctor's recommendations. In case of chronic intoxication with iron preparations, adults are prescribed 200 mg, children under 10 years old 50 mg, and for children over 10 years old 100 mg per day. To eliminate idiopathic methemoglobinemia, take at least 150 mg per day. Powder for the preparation of solutions is diluted in a proportion of 1000 mg per 1 liter of water.

Use Celascon during pregnancy

The use of vitamin preparations during pregnancy is recommended for all women. This ensures the normal functioning of the mother's body, which has a beneficial effect on the growth and development of the fetus. The use of Celascon during pregnancy is possible only on doctor's prescription. This is due to the fact that independent use of increased dosages is dangerous for the mother and child. The doctor calculates the required dose, focusing on the duration of pregnancy. Thus, the minimum daily requirement for vitamin C in the II and III trimesters is 50-60 mg.

After taking the vitamin, the active substance, i.e. ascorbic acid, penetrates the placental barrier. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account that the fetus adapts to high doses of the drug, which can lead to the development of a withdrawal reaction and ascorbic acid disease. During lactation, the daily requirement for vitamin is 80 mg. The active component is excreted in breast milk. Minimal use of the drug by the mother is an excellent prevention of vitamin C deficiency in the child.

Contraindications

Ascorbic acid, like a number of other drugs, has contraindications for use. The vitamin is prohibited for use in the following cases:

  • Individual intolerance to vitamin C
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
  • Nephrolithiasis
  • Thalassemia
  • Hyperoxaluria
  • Hemochromatosis

The medicine is not taken in doses exceeding therapeutic ones, as this threatens various allergic reactions and pathologies on the part of many organs and systems.

Side effects Celascon

Long-term use of ascorbic acid preparations leads to a number of side effects. Celascon can cause the following adverse effects:

  • CNS – headaches, increased fatigue, sleep disturbances.
  • Gastrointestinal tract – irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting.
  • Cardiovascular system – thrombosis, decreased capillary permeability, increased blood pressure, myocardial dystrophy.
  • Allergic reactions – itching, rash, redness, anaphylactic shock.
  • Endocrine system – glucosuria, hyperglycemia.
  • Urinary system – damage to the glomerular apparatus of the kidneys, hyperoxaluria.

In addition to the symptoms described above, changes in laboratory parameters are observed: thrombocytosis, erythropenia, leukocytosis. Metabolic disorders, swelling, and a feeling of heat are possible.

Overdose

The use of high doses of Celascon causes overdose symptoms. Ascorbic acid is well tolerated, its excess is excreted by the kidneys with urine. But long-term use of the drug causes suppression of the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas. Overdose can cause a violation of the renal excretion of ascorbic and uric acids.

Most often, overdose symptoms are accompanied by vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and allergic reactions. Negative manifestations disappear after discontinuation of the drug. In case of pronounced side effects, symptomatic therapy is recommended.

Interactions with other drugs

Strengthening the immune system is a long process that requires the use of several drugs at the same time. The interaction of Celascon with other drugs is possible in the complex therapy of ARVI, ARI, vitamin deficiency, hard-to-heal wounds, infections and inflammations. In order for drug interactions not to cause side effects, all drugs must be selected by a doctor.

  • Ascorbic acid increases the concentration of tetracyclines and benzylpenicillin.
  • Improves the absorption of iron preparations and increases its excretion when used with deferoxamine.
  • Vitamin C reduces the effect of indirect anticoagulants and heparin.
  • Increases ethanol clearance, which reduces the concentration of the active substance Celascon in the body. Long-term use and high dosage disrupt the interaction of ethanol and disulfiram.
  • Reduces the effectiveness of neuroleptics and tricyclic antidepressants, increases the excretion of mexiletine.

Storage conditions

The medicine must be kept in a place protected from sunlight and inaccessible to children. Compliance with storage conditions is a guarantee of preserving the pharmacological properties of the medicine during its shelf life. All forms of the medicine must be stored at a temperature of at least 30°C.

Shelf life

Celascon is approved for use for 24 months from the date of manufacture. This expiration date applies to all forms of Celascon. After its expiration, the medication is prohibited for use and must be disposed of. The use of an expired medication can lead to uncontrolled side effects from many organs and systems.
