Pharmacodynamics
100 g of Soothing Collection No. 3 contains: 25 g of motherwort herb (herba Leonuri cardiaca), 25 g of oregano herb (herba Origanum vulgare), 25 g of thyme herb (herba Thymus serpyllum), 17 g of valerian rhizome and root (radix Valerianaе), 8 g of sweet clover herb (herba Melilоtus officinalis). The herbal preparation Fitosedan 3 has an identical composition.
The pharmacodynamics of these sedatives is based on the action of the following medicinal plants:
- motherwort herb contains flavonoids and glycosides (quercetin, quinqueloside, rutin, stachydrine), monoterpene glycosides (iridoids), P-coumaric acid, which have a calming effect on the body, lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, but at the same time increase it, thereby dilating the coronary vessels;
- the sedative effect of oregano is due to a combination of biochemical processes occurring in the body under the influence of substances in its composition, but the monoterpene alpha-thujone is particularly distinguished, the psychotropic effect of which resembles the effect of tetrahydrocannabinol (contained in hemp), which blocks GABA and serotonergic receptors in the brain;
- in thyme herb, monoterpene alcohols act directly on the central nervous system, in particular, borneol, which reduces blood pressure;
- Valerian roots also contain borneol, the effect of which on the body is enhanced by bornyl isovalerate, valerianic and isovaleric acids, as well as the anxiolytic effect of isovaltrate, which acts as an antagonist of adenosine A1 reuptake receptors;
- Sweet clover grass contains CNS depressant coumarins and triterpene glycosides (melitoside) with antioxidant activity.
