Cebanex is a universal antimicrobial drug. Let's look at the main indications for the use of this drug, methods of application, dosage, possible side effects and contraindications for its use.
[ 1 ]
Indications Cebanex
The main indications for the use of Cebanex are antimicrobial therapy. The drug is prescribed to patients with infectious diseases caused by microflora sensitive to the active substances of Cebanex. The drug is prescribed for:
- Infectious lesions of the respiratory system and airways ( sinusitis, bronchitis ).
- Infections of the pelvic organs and abdominal cavity ( peritonitis, cholangitis, cholecystitis ).
- Infectious diseases of the joints (bursitis), bones ( osteomyelitis ), soft tissues ( furuncles ), as well as meningitis and septicemia.
In particularly difficult cases, Cebanex is prescribed as part of complex antimicrobial therapy. The drug interacts well with a number of antibiotics that have a bactericidal effect.
Release form
The release form of the drug Cebanex is a powder for injections. The drug is released in glass vials for parenteral use of 1 and 2 g. Each cardboard package contains one vial of Cebanex.
This form of release simplifies the process of using the drug. Using a syringe, inject the injection solution into the vial and shake thoroughly until Cebanex is completely dissolved.
Pharmacodynamics
Cebanex is a broad-spectrum complex drug. The main active ingredients of this antimicrobial agent are sulbactam and cefoperazone.
- Sulbatcam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that has virtually no antimicrobial effect. But the way this substance works is that sulbatcam enhances the effect of cefoperazone.
- Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin antibacterial agent. It actively destroys bacterial microorganisms that are at the stage of division and reproduction.
The drug Cebanex has an active effect on infections caused by gram-negative and positive aerobic bacteria, the drug has an effect on cocci and bacilli. Before prescribing the drug, it is very important to check the sensitivity to strains of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae. But the drug does not have the desired effect on staphylococci and mycoplasmas. The active substances of Cebanex quickly and effectively penetrate into biological fluids and tissues, overcoming the hematoplacental barrier.
Pharmacodynamics of Cebanex are the processes and actions that the drug has on the body and bacteria. The drug belongs to cephalosporin antibiotics, therefore it affects sensitive microorganisms that are in the reproduction stage. The drug works by inhibiting the biosynthesis of cell membrane mucopeptide.
The combination of active substances Cebanex shows activity to all microorganisms that are sensitive to cefoperazone. The drug is active against gram-negative aerobic bacteria, cocci, bacilli and gram-negative cocci and bacilli. And also active to resistant mycoplasmas and methicillin-resistant staphylococci.
Pharmacokinetics
Pharmacokinetics of Cebanex is the processes of metabolism, absorption, distribution and excretion of the drug. Let's consider all these processes that occur with the drug after it enters the body.
- Absorption – the drug is concentrated in the blood plasma after 30 minutes when 1 g of cefoperazone is administered and after 15 minutes when 0.5 g of the drug is used.
- Distribution – in adult patients, the distribution process begins five minutes after the administration of a 2g dose of the drug. The distribution rate is 10-12 l. At the same time, the binding to blood proteins is at the level of 80%. The drug penetrates well into the body fluids and tissues. Please note that during the distribution process, the active substances of the drug penetrate the placental barrier, so its use during pregnancy is not advisable.
- Excretion and metabolism – the half-life of the drug is 1-2 hours. Part of the drug is metabolized in the kidneys and liver. Cebanex is excreted in urine, bile and feces.
Dosing and administration
The method of administration and dosage of Cebanex are regulated and prescribed by the attending physician. Thus, the drug is intended for intravenous, intramuscular or drip administration. As a rule, before using the drug, the patient is given a skin test for allergic reactions to the active ingredients of the drug. To prepare the injection, the doctor dilutes the contents of the Cebanex bottle to a concentration of 100 mg per ml. Water for injection, dextrose solution or sodium chloride solution are used for dilution.
As for the dosage of the drug, it depends on the disease to be treated and the individual characteristics of the patient's body. Severe infectious diseases - 0.5-1 g of cefoperazone twice a day. Uncomplicated urethritis - a single administration of 0.5 g of cefoperazone. In all other cases, the dosage of the drug is adjusted by the doctor, but does not exceed 4 g of the active substance Cebanex per day.

Use Cebanex during pregnancy
The use of Cebanex during pregnancy is possible only if the potential benefit to maternal health is much more important than the normal development of the fetus. During pregnancy, the drug can also be prescribed for medical reasons. But, as a rule, Cebanex is replaced with safer drugs.
If the drug is prescribed during lactation, it is necessary to consult a doctor. The doctor must prescribe analogs of the drug that do not enter the mother's milk and the child's body or prohibit breastfeeding. Some women have to interrupt the lactation period due to taking Cebanex.
Contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Cebanex, however, as well as contraindications to any other drug, are primarily based on individual intolerance to the active components. The drug is not recommended for people with intolerance to cephalosporin and penicillin antibiotics. Particular attention when taking the drug should be paid to patients who are prone to allergic reactions.
Cebanex is prescribed with caution to patients with a weak immune system, people who adhere to limited diets or are on parenteral nutrition. For patients with kidney, liver, gallbladder diseases and old age, a minimum dose of the drug is prescribed. But taking Cebanex by pregnant women is possible only under medical supervision, especially in the first and last trimesters.
Side effects Cebanex
The side effects of Cebanex depend entirely on the patient's body characteristics and the dose of the drug used. So, the lower the dosage, the less dangerous and destructive the side effects. Let's look at the common side effects of Cebanex:
- Headache, dizziness
- Leukopenia
- Lowering blood pressure
- Pseudomembranous colitis (with long-term therapy)
- Decreased hemoglobin levels
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stool disorders, flatulence
- Allergic reactions on the skin
- Phlebitis at the injection site and other symptoms.
If side effects of the drug occur, you must stop taking it and seek medical help.

Overdose
An overdose of Cebanex is possible if the dosage of the drug or the rules of use are not followed. Thus, the introduction of high doses is the cause of adverse reactions. The main symptoms of an overdose are manifested by the nervous system. Patients may experience seizures due to the increased concentration of active substances of Cebanex in the cerebrospinal fluid.
There is no antidote for overdose. To relieve overdose symptoms, therapeutic therapy is used. In case of severe intoxication with the drug in patients with chronic diseases or kidney dysfunction, dialysis is performed.
Interactions with other drugs
Interaction of Cebanex with other drugs is possible only with the permission and prescription of a doctor.
- Cebanex should not be mixed in the same syringe with other medications and aminoglycosides.
- The drug can be mixed with compatible infusion solutions, which are used as solvents.
- If, in addition to Cebanex, the patient is prescribed aminoglycoside injections, the drugs must be administered into different parts of the body, adhering to an interval of one to one and a half hours.
- Cebanex interacts poorly with drugs that have bacteriostatic effects, as they reduce the effectiveness of Cebanex.
- When interacting with probenecid, the half-life of Cebanex increases.
- When using the drug, it is strictly forbidden to take medications that contain ethyl alcohol, as well as any alcoholic beverages.
