Stomatitis as an inflammatory process of the oral cavity is rarely treated with antibiotics; the main task of neutralizing pathogenic flora is performed by local antiseptics. Antibiotics for stomatitis are an extreme measure, which is indicated in cases of acute severe forms of the disease, or when stomatitis is a consequence of the main systemic disease of the internal organs.

Of course, ointments containing antibiotics can be used as a means of stopping bacterial infection in the oral cavity. They are especially effective against coccal infection, but are completely ineffective against viruses. Antibiotics against stomatitis are also indicated in the form of local applications, when the tablet is ground into powder, mixed with a gel base and applied to ulcers or aphthae.

Antibiotics may become the drugs of choice for ulcerative-necrotic stomatitis caused by fusospirchetes.

Which antibiotics are effective in treating severe forms of stomatitis?

  • Ampiox.
  • Kanamycin.
  • Lincomycin.
  • Penicillin.
  • Cephalosporin group of antibiotics.
  • Macrolides – clarithromycin, ezithromycin.

Sumamed for stomatitis

Sumamed is an active antibiotic from the macrolide group, the main active ingredient of which is azithromycin. Sumamed for stomatitis can be prescribed as a drug that suppresses gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, anaerobes.

The drug acts on the following pathogenic microorganisms:

  • Streptococcus A, B, C, G.
  • Staphylococcus.
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae.
  • Moraxella catarrhalis.
  • Haemophilus influenzae.
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Sumamed is available in the form of a suspension and tablets and can be prescribed for severe infectious stomatitis, when infection of the oral cavity occurs as a result of a systemic inflammatory process in the body.

In the treatment of dental diseases, as well as ENT pathologies, the suspension form is very convenient, in addition, it is suitable primarily for small children. It should be noted that Sumamed can be prescribed to babies from 5 months of age. The exact dosage and duration of the course of treatment is determined by the attending physician, below is an approximate calculation of the suspension intake for children

Body weight

The tablet form of the drug, as a rule, involves taking it for three days, no more. Then the effectiveness of the drug is determined and further therapeutic tactics are selected.

Amoxiclav for stomatitis

Amoxicillin+Clavulanic acid or amoxiclav is a medicinal form of amoxicillin lyophilisate in combination with clavulanic acid. The drug is available in the form of powder for suspension or preparation of a drop solution. This is a combined broad-spectrum antibiotic that is used against many pathogenic microorganisms that cause inflammation in tissues and organs.

The drug is active as a bactericide, as it inhibits the development and synthesis of bacterial cells. Amoxiclav acts on the following bacteria:

  • Staphylococcus aureus.
  • Staphylococcus epidermidis.
  • Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Streptococcus anthracis.
  • Streptococcus viridans.
  • Enterococcus faecalis.
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae.
  • Enterococcus faecalis.
  • Corynebacterium spp.
  • Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Clostridium spp.
  • Peptococcus spp.
  • Peptostreptococcus spp.
  • .Escherichia coli.
  • Proteus mirabilis.
  • Proteus vulgaris.
  • Klebsiella spp.
  • Shigella spp.
  • Bordetella pertussis.
  • Yersinia enterocolitica.
  • Gardnerella vaginalis.
  • Neisseria meningitidis.
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
  • Moraxella catarrhalis.
  • Haemophilus influenzae.
  • Haemophilus ducreyi.
  • Pasteurella.
  • Campylobacter jejuni.

The drug is used very widely, in particular, in dentistry, amoxiclav for stomatitis is most effective in severe exacerbations, when local treatment does not bring results.

The dosage and course of treatment are determined by the attending physician, as a rule, adult patients and children over 12 years of age are prescribed a tablet form of 250 mg three times a day. Children under 12 years of age are prescribed syrup, drops for oral administration. The drug has a systemic effect, thereby eliminating the root cause of the disease, after the elimination of the main infectious focus, amoxiclav is not used for stomatitis.

Augmentin for stomatitis

Augmentin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic from the penicillin group. Augmentin for stomatitis can be prescribed only in cases of complications, severe inflammatory process caused by general systemic infection of the body.

It should be noted that most types of stomatitis are treated with topical medications; internal use of medications is indicated as an extreme measure, which cannot be avoided.

The peculiarity of the drug Augmentin is that it contains two active components - amoxicillin and clavulanate. The first is an antibiotic in its pure form, which acts on a large list of pathogenic microorganisms, clavulanate helps amoxicillin suppress the production of bacterial beta-lactamase, which interferes with the action of the antibiotic. Practice shows that such a chemical composition is effective and does not require a long course of treatment, after 3 days in 90% of patients the main symptoms subside, that is, the acute inflammatory process stops.

Augmentin is available in the form of tablets, injection powder, syrup, and suspension powder. Obviously, the suspension form is the most convenient; injections are indicated for special conditions when stomatitis is a consequence of a severe infectious disease, and not an independent pathology of the oral cavity. The dose and regimen of the drug are determined by the doctor depending on the age and health condition.

The drug is not prescribed to infants under 2 months of age, but otherwise Augmentin has proven itself to be an effective antibiotic that quickly suppresses infection.

Amoxicillin for stomatitis

For stomatitis, the choice of antibiotics depends on the severity and type of inflammation.

Amoxicillin can only be prescribed as a systemic drug for infections that have developed in internal organs or systems. Thus, amoxicillin for stomatitis can rather be defined not as a medicine for inflammation of the oral cavity, but as a means of stopping the underlying pathological process.

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic from the penicillin group, the drug has a broad spectrum of action and is effective against the following pathogenic microbes:

  • Staphylococcus spp.
  • Streptococcus spp.
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
  • Neisseria meningitidis.
  • Escherichia coli.
  • Shigella spp.
  • Salmonella spp.
  • Klebsiella spp.

Amoxicillin is used as a monotherapy for the treatment of severe infectious pathologies developing in the tissues of internal organs, while stomatitis is a consequence of the pathology, that is, a secondary disease.

The dosage of the drug is determined by the attending physician, the approximate dosage regimen is as follows:

  • The dosage for adults and children over 10 years old is 250-500 mg.
  • acute stage of the disease - up to 1 year.
  • for children aged 5 to 10 years, the dose is 250 mg.
  • children from 2 to 5 years old - 125 mg.
  • children under 2 years of age: dose - 20 mg/kg.
  • interval between doses is 8 hours.

It should be noted that amoxicillin, like other antibiotics, is ineffective in treating viral diseases, including herpetic stomatitis. The drug has many side effects, so its prescription is the doctor's task, not the patient's.

In general, antibiotics for stomatitis and other diseases of the oral cavity are the so-called “heavy artillery”, which the doctor uses only when local procedures – antiseptic irrigations, applications and cauterizations – do not produce results within 7-10 days.
